Nov-03-10  wordfunph: as of Nov. 3

255. 4tmac -2,095
256. wordfunph -2,556

<4tmac> is closing on me, i won't give him the chance to grab my yellow jersey, never ever.. :)

Nov-03-10  4tmac: <wordfunph> you're going Down! .... i mean .... well, you know what i mean.....
Nov-04-10  wordfunph: as of Nov. 4

256. 4tmac -2,243
257. wordfunph -2,783

<4tmac>, no way you can beat me..

i'm the champ of Tail-End Board! :-)

Nov-05-10  SloVice: I'm trying my best to catch "up" to you guys, but I may just not be good enough. Woe is me.

254. <SloVice> -1,141

Nov-09-10  technical draw: Dear chessbookie. Could it be possible that you can set up a system where one player can borrow from another player? There are a lot of players here with their original $1,000. Idle cash. If you set it up I could borrow that money and you can add the interest to the loaners net. Borrowed money doesn't add to the net worth but if I can convince some players to hand over a grand I'll have more betting power. How about it? Give it a try.
Nov-09-10  wordfunph: amen with <technical draw>, i badly needed some cash to keep my chance alive and kicking.. :)

more power <CG Bookie>!

Nov-10-10  SloVice: <wordfunph><td> I not sure about borrowing from other players, but how about the Loanshark offering more $. It's difficult to catch up when only being able to place $150-$200 worth of bets each day.
Nov-10-10  NakoSonorense: I am able to borrow $500 each day.

  SwitchingQuylthulg: Today's leader and #1 is <Chnebelgrind>, up from last place a few weeks ago. In 7th place with c$6167 we find <moronovich>, up from deep negatives a few weeks ago (not sure if he was ever in last place). Tomorrow's leaderboard will hopefully feature myself, up from last place a couple weeks ago.

The conclusion that catching up is awfully difficult doesn't exactly leap to mind from this sample. c$200 in a day may not be much, but it adds up. Across a ten-round tournament, say, it means you get c$2K (even assuming your credit rating doesn't go up enough to embiggen your daily loan). Any player should be capable of doing plenty with 2000 chessbucks... of course, if you keep losing everything old Sharky gives you, <then> I can see your problem. ;-)

Nov-10-10  technical draw: <I am able to borrow $500 each day.>

I can only get $200 (and sometimes only $150). I guess the deeper in the hole you are the more you can get.

Nov-10-10  NakoSonorense: <I guess the deeper in the hole you are the more you can get.>

It doesn't help one bit, though. It's like giving me a shovel.

  Chnebelgrind: A Pick-Three bailed me out. Bookie please arrange a Pick-Three for this distressed people!
Nov-11-10  Xenon Oxide: <Chnebelgrind>

Agreed. Pick-Threes always throw off the "empiricists" like me and add a measure of chaos to the betting scene, which gives the cellar-dwellers a chance.

:P

Nov-11-10  wordfunph: Pick3 is my bread and butter..

advance thanks to <CG Bookie>! a chance for the Negative Club members to rise, fight!

Nov-11-10  wordfunph: mate <SloVice>,

i favor borrowing from other players to make the contest interesting, <loanshark> could only afford $100 a day and i need at least $500..

for sure, guys like <Chnebel> <Sugar> <moro> <Switch> <Barok> <others in top 12> could afford to lend me fraction of their fortunes.. :-)

Nov-11-10  wordfunph: Tal Memorial Rd 6: Gelfand-Kramnik <IN GAME BETTING> 11 minutes

great idea <CG Bookie>! this makes our betting more exciting yahoooo!

...but my account is $0 huh! thanks anyway.

Nov-11-10  NakoSonorense: I just made 265 c$ on that "in-game betting." Those on the leader board better watch out.
Nov-11-10  technical draw: In honor of the chess bookie game I'm going to make a bumper sticker. It will read:

I DON'T BET ON DRAWS

New rule: All drawn games will be counted as a loss for white. That'll stir things up.

Nov-11-10  Xenon Oxide: <technical draw> Draws made me win big this time around :D
Nov-11-10  SloVice: <<SwitchingQuylthulg> of course, if you keep losing everything old Sharky gives you, <then> I can see your problem. ;-)> I think you hit the nail on head here. I can't remember the last time I won a bet.

<wordfunph> Yes, the currently top players could easily give a substantial loan. However, do we want to help increase their lead by giving them interest? Also, what happens when we can't pay them back either? Do they write off those loans as a loss? Will that debt be forgiven at the start of a new leg as the <loanshark> does?

Finally, I see I'm catching up to <td>. *sigh*

Nov-11-10  wordfunph: mate <SloVice>

<However, do we want to help increase their lead by giving them interest?>

of course not, meager interest won't make a big difference and besides they would give us opportunity to recover.

<Also, what happens when we can't pay them back either?>

we remain deep deep in the cellar while they go to the bank with smile on their face. A limit should be set, say, $1000 max.

<Do they write off those loans as a loss?>

cellar-dwellers loss won't be their loss, they gain through interest --- a win-win situation for them.

<Will that debt be forgiven at the start of a new leg as the <loanshark> does?>

yes.

to add flavor to this scheme, we can transact borrowings from these top guns at $0 to $10 per day per $100. I'm worried, no one would be super-generous to lend me at zero interest.. :)

♖♖♖

Nov-13-10  Xenon Oxide: we also neglect that it would probably be a programming nightmare.

:o)

Nov-13-10  wordfunph: agree with you <Xenon>, but everything is workable in our age.. :)
Nov-15-10  technical draw: I have one bet in the world blitz that can propel me to second place.. All it takes is one big win, c'mon luck, baby needs a new pair of shoes!
Nov-16-10  wordfunph: leaders after 14 rounds..

10.0 = Carlsen, Aronian
9.5 = Mamedyarov
8.5 = Kramnik, Svidler
8.0 = Gelfand

go Mamedyarov & Svidler! :)
