| Nov-05-07 | | malthrope: <Fredrik: <feripe><Annie K.><Malthrope> Happy hunting to you all! Being the hunted doesn't scare me, I've been in this position before... > Indeed <Fredrik> ! :^) It should be pointed out that <Fredrik> won the Spring 2007 leg and placed in Qualifying 'Runners Up' in the Summer 2007 leg. Then in the Winter Championship final last year won by <iron maiden> with 27,833 chessbucks, he placed once again in the 'Runners Up' there too! A tried and true betting warrior! ;-) So, a 'hunting' we shall go! ~lol~ - Mal

There are those of us (all names withheld) that would really enjoy and benefit greatly by betting in the 3rd hour of play! ~lol~ However, 'fair is fair' and those of us that really appreciate the betting game you provide to us are also quite willing to gladly assist you when a little bet 'timing mistake' is noted... ;-) Regards, - Mal |

| Nov-05-07 | | malthrope: <feripe: <Mal> If I knew that I'd change a lot of bets... I'm losing fast... but that's ok... I'll recover my cb soon...> Yep! Sometimes it pays to play conservatively and sometimes it pays to take a gamble! Don't feel too bad as I lost c-bucks in the last round #8 also (took a few small risks and 90% of them all went no where)... Plus, I had my hopes set on the Polish women's chess team but they lost too! I would have made a small fortune if they had won the Women's section ($10,680 c-bucks!). Oh well - easy come, easy go! ;-) - Mal PS: Betting tip - be careful in the last round of the ETC as they sometimes tend to finish up fast and early... There is a chess party to attend! ~lol~ If you catch my drift. :-) |
|
| Nov-05-07 | | feripe: I got it... :^) I had already decided not to bet this round... I have 3800 cb to colect in both russian wins (if confirmed)... I changed focus to Pick 3s and Topalov's win at Liga de Campeones. |

Hey thanks <zanshin> ! :-) I was unaware the Chess Bookie has archived all the betting legs so that one can review them. Well done <Chess Bookie> a very useful archive! Funny thing was I went straight to the Championship <Winter leg> to check out the stats there (the one <Iron Maiden> won) and after noting the top results went straight to the bottom to discover <TIMER> ! It must have been an amazing run for him to come so close in the Championship final starting only with $1,000 c-bucks. Can you imagine borrowing $50K from the Loanshark? Just bloody amazing! Besides this reminds me, I'll have to set some time aside soon to read all 103 pages of the Chess Bookie Forum to see what I missed! :-) Anyway, a funny betting day for me as I was figuring all draws in RUS-BUL (Men's) and UKR-RUS (Women's) matches, but of course - Nooooooooo! ~lol~ In fact at one point I got very excited when the RUS women were losing and it looked like the POL women may win BIG (even if they had won they still had to overcome a 1.5 point lead held by the RUS women in TB2). As, I held 72% of the betting pool on POL there and was still dreaming of a massive infusion of $10,680 c-bucks!. ;-) In the end the RUS women held (thus securing my one draw bet of four) and also had a small piece of 'Draw-Draw-Black' in today's Pick 3 (plus a small bet on Topy to win with 'counter measure' on Judit to end up wining some chump change there) to end the day with that entire betting sequence with minus $2! ~lol~ Darn betting on <CG.com> is tough! In the Main event - ETC 'Men and Women' sections - my strategy was to bet on the many excellent underdogs in both sections and I used my bets on the RUS teams to pay for all those. Well almost, as I'll lose a few hundred but it sure was close! :^) Regards, - Mal PS: OT - I'll write you shortly in your Forum about out mutual GM Philippine friend and let you know what happened (current status)... BTW: Don't tell anyone but today's my 60th birthday! So, I'll get around to it when I can in the next 48 hours if I don't get arrested by then! ~ROFL~ ;-) |
|
| Nov-06-07 | | zanshin: Hey Mal! I don't know how you guys do it with ChessBookie. I'll bet big on the favorites, or small on the underdogs, ... no matter what I try I can never get anything going. Oh well .. it's only chessbucks. <PS: OT - I'll write you shortly in your Forum about out mutual GM Philippine friend and let you know what happened (current status)... > Let me know, I'm curious. I thought you either had forgotten or had no luck, so I wasn't going to bring it up ;-) <BTW: Don't tell anyone but today's my 60th birthday! So, I'll get around to it when I can in the next 48 hours if I don't get arrested by then! ~ROFL~ ;-)> Well Happy Birthday! Don't do anything too insane. And don't worry, your secret is safe with me! ;-) |

I'll bet big on the favorites, or small on the underdogs, ... no matter what I try I can never get anything going. Oh well .. it's only chessbucks.> Hehehe... I've been helping my old friend <Micawbr> and teaching him what it took me 3 betting seasons to grasp and comprehend about the manipulation and use of c-bucks in the Chess Bookie betting game! Don't use your emotions - instead use your finely tuned betting mind! Now if I could just cut down on my insane lapses that occur every other week - I'd be a total betting terror! ~lol~ <Let me know, I'm curious. I thought you either had forgotten or had no luck> Will do soon and write more extensively in your Forum (it was the latter but I'm *not* giving up quite yet)... ;-) <Well Happy Birthday! Don't do anything too insane. And don't worry, your secret is safe with me! ;-)> I just knew that you were an outstanding CG.com 'Member of Merit' and totally trustworthy! :^) - Mal |

 | | Annie K.: <Fredrik: <<feripe><Annie K.><Malthrope> Happy hunting to you all! Being the hunted doesn't scare me, I've been in this position before...>> OK then, watch out! ;)
<Mal <Happy <Birthday <!!! =) <<<<<>>>>>>>>> I've had a minor setback today too, but not too bad - I'm playing, because I'd hate to miss out on the fun, but I'm playing for peanuts, because like Mal, my main purpose is to stay in the top 10. So don't get your hopes up! ;) |
|
| Nov-07-07 | | feripe: Hey Mal, happy birthday!!!
<Annie> You warned him late, we have a new leader!!! Fredrik lost a lot yesterday... I wonder what happened... Are you giving us a chance Fred???? |
|
| Nov-07-07 | | malthrope: Thanks <zanshin><Annie K.> & <feripe> ! for all the birthday wishes! :-)
Yes we have a new leader... <plimko> ! He's OK in my book as he's a big fan of the upcoming young chess talent GM Fabiano Caruana of Italy. Well, I know just how <Fredrik> feels I too lost c-bucks today... :-( Sometimes wonder why I even bother betting on rounds before the rest days! <eek> The 'Pick 3' went virtually no where (no action whatsoever - all draws). Also, the BIG games between Pono-Topy, Polgar-Nisi and Karpov-Kash were all drawn so fast that all my decisive bets sunk to the bottom and I didn't even see any sizzles in the bubbles! ~lol~ Mal makes a new betting rule - only conservative bets allowed before the bloody rest days! ;-) Well, that's the bad news... The good news is we have the fabulous 'Tal Memorial' coming right up and the Spice Tournament (sponsored and organized by the Spice Girls? Hahaha!) to bet on shortly. Throw in the occasional GMT vs. CG.com members CC game and we'll all be just fine! :-))) - Mal |

| Nov-07-07 | | malthrope: <WannaBe: For the SPICE Cup: Winner bet, I've taken Posh!!?> Hahaha! <WannaBe> ! Posh Spice beat Sexy Spice? Hmm... I'll pick Sporty Spice, Scary Spice and Baby Spice all as underdogs... It's 'Sexy Spice' all the way... 1,000 c-bucks on Sexy! ~lol~ ;-) |
|
| Nov-08-07 | | Fredrik: <feripe> Easy come, easy go... I've just had a really bad week, I lost almost every bet I made (about 2500 chessbucks in total). But since I had quite a few really good weeks just before I'm not really complaining, my luck was bound to change. |
|
| Nov-08-07 | | technical draw: <plimko> only has 12 more chessbucks than I do. Only his are positive and mine are negative! |
|
| Nov-08-07 | | feripe: <Anyway, a funny betting day for me as I was figuring all draws in RUS-BUL (Men's) and UKR-RUS (Women's) matches, but of course - Nooooooooo! ~lol~ > RUS women team almost made me have a heart attack. I had 1 grand on them. <TD> I think you can win this battle... |
|
| Nov-09-07 | | technical draw: <Don't bet on every event. Professional handicappers scour hundreds of possible bets to find a few really good wagers where they believe the odds are in their favor.> This is the chessbookies' tip #4 for for good betting. Ha! I laugh at such advice..TD's advice is better; bet everything you have on every event and borrow from the loanshark and don't pay him back...TD's tip # 100 |

 | | Chessgames Bookie: Betting is open on the first round of the Tal Memorial Tournament. |
|
Nov-11-07
 | | Annie K.: <re: SPICE Cup> Paprika rulez, and Turmeric is its runner-up! ;p Actually, I'm staying out of it, because I don't know the players well enough. But the Tal Memorial is going fairly well for me so far! ;) Now all I need is for Gelfand to win clear first place, since I'm holding 1/3 the pool on him with 230 c$s and a payoff of 4250 if the first place isn't shared. Have a comfortable insurance bet on Kramnik too of course... but in this tourney IMO Gelfand is the one with a real chance who has been strongly underappreciated by the odds. His performance in the WCC tournament has been very impressive. :) |
|
Nov-11-07
 | | Chessgames Bookie: GM Kamil Miton arrived late for the SPICE Cup Tournament and missed his first two games against Becerra and Hera. The games will be made up later in the week. |
|
| Nov-11-07 | | TIMER: I got the pick 3 right for round 8 (Topalov winning other two draws), and bet that way on all the games, (this is the way I had always planned to bet- I bet the same way in the previous round and lost)- so it is very frustrating that I won't get my winnings because of mistimings of the chessbookie- I really need my chessbucks! |

| Nov-11-07 | | Micawbr: Hello ALL!
Is there a way to speak with the owners or someone in power? I am thinking telephone. I look but only see the Chessgames headers for the usual (and good) Chessgames features. No contact, no email adresses and no phone numbers! A Chessgames Matrix? Do you plug? I think I will have to research this, but any help will be MUCH appreciated. Thanks,
Tom

| Nov-11-07 | | Micawbr: <WannaBe>: No e-mail?!?! On the bottom is the 'contact us' link, or you can simply chess@chessgames.com =) Okay, Wannabe, you're right, it's down below, I see it. I am looking for a personal contact, someone with a name and some accountabily. Anonymous is not good here. You can nuke all info-at-addresses, so like who are you talking to? The world would be a better place without info at. See my upcoming article on the utter failure of Six Sigma Customer relations. I want to talk to an owner. Thanks for your response, I appreciate it. I really sympathize with Timer's comment just below, I wonder if there are others. Tom
