<truefriends: Moved from 5th to 4th :-) So i am on my way....> You are doing great <truefriends> - keep it up! :)) Like <WannaBe> I also took a bad tumble in the 'Pick 3' from Round #9 (the day before yesterday). With both Stellwagen and Smeets drawing their games that totally ruined my betting strategy... :-( That's the Bad News! ~lol~ The 'Good News' is I can now explore the extreme depths of the cellar and see all these new rule changes first-hand that <ChessBookie> has put into effect... ;) Fortunately, I'd picked both Stellwagen and Smeets to win the event... So, should recover some of my loses (if Stellwagen draws or if Smeets wins). I'll continue to try and recover but when you're at the bottom of the barrel (-827 atm) it's very slow going! *Duh* :^) - Mal |

 | | Annie K.: Tough rounds, #9 and #10, huh. I've dropped some too... maybe today will be better. :s I've got tourney winner bets on L'Ami and Smeets, so there may be some income from those quarters. What's the new decor in the dungeons like Mal? ;) |
| Apr-13-08 | | malthrope: <Annie: <What's the new decor in the dungeons like Mal? ;)>> Thanks for asking Annie! ;) For starters it's very dark down here! Have no fear as I brought my trusty LED teckie flashlight! <grin> Haven't run into anything with pointy tails yet... Not sure if that's good or bad?! ~lol~ Anyway, <ChessBookie> lets me borrow $200 c-bucks daily (always after the 'juice' is collected) with a new betting cap of $300 (kinda like getting 6 buns and a pack of 8 hot dogs, eh?). Spicy mustard, tomatoes, onions and relish are of course optional. Go figure! ;) So, I'll do my best to collect funds (paying the usual amount of interest naturally) while I hang out down there... One other thing - I was consistently borrowing money from the Loanshark (whether I used it or not) and always paying him back. As well as making multiple bets up to this point. Don't know yet how this helped me (it was after all <ChessBookie>'s suggestion) but it appears not to have hurt me... ;-) Further reports to follow if I note any other items of interest for potential cellar dweller to kindly give me some company! ~ROFL~ :^) - Mal |
| Apr-13-08 | | technical draw: Mal, Mal ,Mal...The dungeon is not for you. You don't know how things work down there. I'll send Annie K to help you find your way around...Meantime I'm getting ready to go to the leader board...Unluck to all.! |
| Apr-13-08 | | malthrope: <technical draw: Mal, Mal ,Mal...The dungeon is not for you. [...]> ~ROFL~ Well, it looks like I'll be leaving here shortly... It's a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live here... ~lol~ Smeets and Janssen both won! I couldn't bring myself to bet on Bosboom over L'Ami. Besides, I was out of betting money anyway (200 c-bucks only goes so far!). Now what's the deal with GMT? Wonder what move he'll play... <sheepish grin> :^) - Mal |

| Apr-13-08 | | truefriends: Just lost 1100 CB on the last round of the Dutch Championships :( |
Apr-13-08
 | | Stonehenge: Welcome to the club :( |
| Apr-13-08 | | Buddy Revell: That was a very, very atypical last round - no draws! =O I still cannot believe some of those results. Come on, Bosboom beating L'Ami with the Black pieces?! Oh, and I lost a lot of chessbucks as well. =( Looking forward to seeing what GMT will play too! He might be my salvation and make up for today's mess. =P |
| Apr-13-08 | | malthrope: <truefriends: Just lost 1100 CB on the last round of the Dutch Championships :(> Just be happy you're still in the BLACK! It's always a delicate balance when to <Sit on your Hands> (bet nothing at all or only in small sums) and when to <Pull the Trigger> (bet with reckless abandon showing no fear!). Work on mastering that and you'll be in fine shape in no time! ;) Look at me - after holding down the #1 spot went to dead last at #133! Did I despair?! Never! ~lol~ In one fell swoop I get back on board with a positive score looking once again for more! Never let a little setback ruin your <ChessBookie> betting fun! ;) In order to <Win> you must also learn to <Lose> ~lol~ :^) - Mal PS: Many of us have grand betting stories to tell. The vast amounts we've bet and won and the vast amounts we've bet and lost... It's like no other game in town! <grin> |

 | | WannaBe: No draws in Round 11 of the Dutch Championship! What's the chance of that?!?! |
| Apr-13-08 | | malthrope: <WannaBe: No draws in Round 11 of the Dutch Championship! What's the chance of that?!?!> Greater than 6:1 ~lol~ One lucky devil bet $5 c-bucks on 0 draws at 501:1 odds and picked up a cool $2,509! Couldn't be our new friend on top of the Leaderboard now could it!? :^) |
| Apr-14-08 | | MarkThornton: Over a week ago, I put 200 chessbucks on <40...Nd3> in The World vs Gert Jan Timmerman, at odds of at least 8:1. If GJT had played that move last week, I would have won >1600 chessbucks. A week later, my same bet has odds of 11:4, so I now win about 550 chessbucks. This feels slightly unfair... perhaps people in this position should get the option to get their stake back, if the GM fails to make a move on time? |
| Apr-14-08 | | pawnofdoom: <<WannaBe>: No draws in Round 11 of the Dutch Championship! What's the chance of that?!?!> Awful for me. I bet on each game, 300 chessbucks, that the game would be drawn. THeres goes 1800 :( |
| Apr-15-08 | | Judah: On the ChessBookie page, it says that I have a respectable $1550, but on my profile page it only accords me $700, which is what I think I had at the end of last leg. And I'm not listed at all on the Spring leg players list. (strangely, that list says there are 139 players but only lists 138.) Is it just that it takes time to update? |
| Apr-15-08 | | Kreifi: What just happened? I missed leg start and now I'm 11th. :D |
| Apr-15-08 | | Judah: <Judah: ...>
nevermind |
Apr-15-08
 | | Chessgames Bookie: <MarkThornton> Our usual practice has been to extend the betting until Timmerman makes his move, perhaps that should have been stated in the bet proposition. Of course, if you want to be sure of the odds that you are receiving, it is best to wait to the last minute before making your wager. |
