Jun-26-08  notyetagm: <Sneaky: <notyetagm: How do people win so much money doing this? I think the most money I have ever finished with is around $2500.>

Since we're pretty much between legs I don't feel guilty giving away some of my secrets. Here are four ways to build up your chessbucks account.>

Thanks for all the great info! :-)

Jun-27-08  whiteshark: A mere trifle: I just learned that the player's name for the Dortmund bets is Jan Gustafsson. :D
Jun-27-08  Kreifi: Oh, of course, that how it is.

Jun-27-08  whiteshark: <Annie K:> I just checked my biz-'library' for some help, but I think the best is here to study Sneaky's post time and again like one of the great classics. Well you have said it already before. :D
Jun-28-08  Kreifi: Great. I made mistake bet in pick three. Good start. Mayby I should whine that you should be able to cancel your bet. ;)

  Annie K.: All in all, a good day at the office: ;p

<Gustaffson vs Kramnik : Draw 200 - 508

Ivanchuk vs Van Wely : Draw 200 - 605

Mamedyarov vs Leko : Draw 200 - 288

<Naiditsch vs Nepomniachtchi : Nepomniachtchi 100>

Pick Three : Draw-Draw-Draw 200 - 1,778

<Pick Three : Draw-Draw-White 100>>

Jun-28-08  percyblakeney: Some great odds there, I think Ivanchuk and van Wely had drawn five of their six latest games, still more than three times the money. Kramnik was played down to huge favourite with black in spite of not having won with the colour for around 35 games (including Smeets, Tiviakov, Motylev and so on). Gustafsson hadn't lost with white in a couple of years (including games against Kamsky, Aronian and Cheparinov), so that draw was no sensation either.

Next round looks tricker to predict, it's boring to go for draws all the time so I will make some more unusual bets...

Jun-28-08  percyblakeney: OK, that's it, against better knowledge: 200 on Mamedyarov to win with black.

  Annie K.: Yes, after I checked out the Ivanchuk - Van Wely recent record, I was amazed at the unpopularity of the draw option both in the individual bet and the pick three. It looked very likely to me, particularly since we're talking about Dortmund here, where draws were always common, it being Kramnik's playground.

Same for Kramnik - ok, Gustaffson may be a relative unknown, but still, to overlook the fact that Kramnik just does not play for a win with black... and again, it's Dortmund? :s

Jun-29-08  Whitehat1963: Are you going to do any over/under (number of moves) bets for the Dortmund tourney?

And here's a suggestion for the next supertournaments: most wins with white, most wins with black, most draws, etc.

  Annie K.: <<Whitehat1963> And here's a suggestion for the next supertournaments: most wins with white, most wins with black, most draws, etc.>

Hey that's not a bad idea! :) It would certainly make people pay more attention to actual statistics, instead of just calling certain players "drawmasters" and others "fighters" by rote, without the least attention to facts. ;)

  Annie K.: ... well, that or suffer the consequences. :p

Today's results: slight setback, with only two winning tickets -

<Kramnik vs Van Wely : Kramnik 200 - 350> and
<Nepomniachtchi vs Mamedyarov : Draw 200 - 372>

BTW, thanks for the quick leaderboard update yesterday <Bookie>! :)

Jun-29-08  malthrope: I object! ;)

<Ricardo2001: I don't know if this will last, so just for the record :o) : [...]>

I've been under the weather recently and missed the entire 'Draw feast' (orgy?) in the first round! <sheepish grin>

  Chessgames Bookie: <Whitehat1963> Over/Under bets have been added to a few of the Dortmund games. Your suggestions for future betting propositions are interesting.

Thanks Annie! I'll be better tomorrow! Fresh bets and fresh food (not in that *order* though)... ~lol~ :^) - Mal

  Sneaky: Boy, the chess mavens sure are confident that Chucky is going to win tomorrow's Dortmund Rd 3: Ivanchuk vs Nepomniachtchi . I'll be the contrarian. Chucky will get into horrible time pressure, blunder on move 36 and resign the game on move 40. Stranger things have happened.
