Oct-02-08  Whitehat1963: <Chessgames Bookie> Time for another bet on GM Arno Nickel's next move.
Oct-02-08  malthrope: I'm shocked, shocked to see that there is gambling going on with only a few selective players [ Fall Leg standings: ChessBookie Standings // <Total number of contestants: 11> ]

I suspect 'bribes' and the leader of the pack - <TD> of course! ~lol~ :^) - Mal

Chessgames Bookie: We have added the proposition: Arno Nickel vs The World: 11.?
Oct-02-08  Ichiro: Grischuk withdrew. Sakaev plays instead in Russian Superfinal.
Oct-03-08  malthrope: <Ichiro: Grischuk withdrew. Sakaev plays instead in Russian Superfinal.>

Good catch there <Ichiro> :) This change of players is also noted by Crestbook and ChessPro including the official website the Russian Chess Fereration... ;) - Mal

Oct-03-08  DCP23: The 'First Blood' bet doesn't work.

Chessgames Bookie: Tickets on Grischuk have been refunded. If Sakaev should manage to upset the field, everyone will get their money back.

'First Blood' bet should work now.

Oct-04-08  artyom2008: how come im not in list
Oct-04-08  artyom2008: now im in
Oct-04-08  technical draw: <Mal> You were right. Those traitors at Chessgames Bookie took my money and cut the field but only for a few days. I want my 20 grand back!
Oct-04-08  whiteshark: <Chessgames Bookie: We have added the proposition: Arno Nickel vs The World: 11.?> Did you close the betting prematurely ? It's move than 90 minutes to go.... (The closing time of this bet will be extended by 24 hour periods until Nickel moves.)
Oct-04-08  whiteshark: Thanks <Bookie>. :D
Oct-04-08  technical draw: Hot tip!...Don't pay any attention to the Chessbookie's hot tips. Bet it all on long shots in the first bets. Bet it all on black to win. Bet on Kramnik losing all the games in the WCC. Don't be a wimp. Play like a man! (that is , of course if you are one).

Sneaky: I know why the Bookie gave that "hot tip" <Hot tip: don't commit too much money too early in long-term bets like the World Championship. Try to work your account first with the interim events like the Russian Superfinal.> It's a mistake I made about a year ago playing this game. I put 500 bucks on the winner of a big tournament that was several weeks from concluding, then I quickly frittered away my other 500 in a matter of days.

Then I went to the loanshark expecting him to loan me more money, but his attitude was "Hey buddy boy, you're not broke, I only loan money to people who are broke." You see, those unresolved tickets add to my "net worth" so in his mind I still had 500 bucks. So I had to wait for the big tournament to resolve itself, and I lost that too, and only then would the loanshark extend me credit.

Sneaky: I lost about 250 bucks on the first day of betting. Ouch, it really hurts to start off on the wrong foot in this game. But on the other hand I know that it's possible to make dramatic comebacks. So keep gambling.
Oct-06-08  brankat: Regarding Pick 3 bet for the fourth round of the Russian Superfinals.

The third game is, I think, Morozevich - Timofeev, not Morozevich - Inarkiev as You have it listed there.

Oct-06-08  kspiteri: <td> If your results didn't suggest that you actually follow your hot tips, I might have thought that you had a hidden intention ;)
Oct-06-08  technical draw: <kspiteri> Actually I'm what is called a hunch bettor. Sometimes it works and you're king of the hill. But most times it fails and your a cellar rat. Anyway, how did BaranDuin get so much money so fast?

Oct-06-08  kspiteri: <td: how did BaranDuin get so much money so fast?> All from round 2. A winning 100cb ticket on Inarkiev-Vitiugov might have left almost 1000cb profit. A wining 200cb ticket on Morozevich-Svidler might have left about 2000cb profit. A winning 200cb ticket on Alekseev-Timofeev might have left about 600cb profit. A winning 200cb ticket on Lastin-Maslak might have left almost 500cb profit.
Oct-06-08  kspiteri: <brankat: Morozevich - Timofeev, not Morozevich - Inarkiev> Yes, especially since Inarkiev has white, so it is not Inarkiev - Jakovenko. Anyway, if Bookie decides to take remedial measures because of the mistake, it might seem unfair to just refund all tickets. Anyone who guessed wrongly on the first two games deserves to lose the ticket. Maybe the best remedy would be to pool DDW, DDB and DDD together in one pool. The winning odds would only be 2.13, but at least there would be some reward to getting the first two games right.

Chessgames Bookie: We cancelled all tickets on the 4th round 'Pick Three', due to the erroneous game pairing listing.
Oct-07-08  BaranDuin: <technical draw>

My confidence in Peter Svidler was rewarded :-)

Oct-07-08  technical draw: <Baranduin> Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. You are still in first place but you've lost a little. I'm slowly working my way up...Good luck!
Oct-08-08  danielpi: I'm all in on round 5 -- not a chessbuck in the till, and the loan shark seems to have been hit by the recent crisis in the financial sector -- the die is cast.
Oct-09-08  danielpi: Well that sucks.
