Mar-27-09  holland oats: Thank you <technical draw> and <Touch of Knight>! Amber was certainly a tricky little event, but a couple of lucky bets can make anyone look like a genious. I'm curious to know what bet(s) gave you such a big boost after Linares <Touch of Knight>? With scary gains like that, my money is on you for the next championship!
Mar-27-09  zanshin: <Tok> both you and former teammate <Robin01> did well too. Congrats to both of you.
Mar-29-09  Touch of Knight: <holland oats> My big jump forward came in the last round of Linares. I was in a bad mood because I had been losing a lot of chessbucks lately. After visiting the loanshark I was able to wager 40,000 in that round. Then I put 10,000 on a draw in each of the games. All the games were drawn, and suddenly my net worth was above 50,000.
Mar-30-09  notyetagm: And the next contest begins, when?
Mar-31-09  bharatiy: I hope its during the next grand prix

Chessgames Bookie: I'm still in the Bahamas celebrating my giant earnings last season of 141,849 chessbucks. (That's pure juice, baby!)

I'll be back in town in a just a few days to set up the new Spring Leg. See you then!

Apr-03-09  bharatiy: wow, you should let us know the places which accept chessbucks will go there a lot, but that may mean more pain to loanshark!!
Apr-03-09  Ragh: <bharatiy> Don't be sympathetic to the loanshark, he is called a shark for a good reason. He never budges in retrieving the money he lends, even at the cost of 'bankrupting' the juice out of you.
Apr-03-09  notyetagm: The <2009 Russian Team Championship> would be a good time to start the next betting season. Starts tomorrow.

WannaBe: The Red Army's Hockey Team should win it all!! =)

WoW! :O A new Loanshark "juice" record has been broken... Impressive <ChessBookie> :D

<I'll be back in town in a just a few days to set up the new Spring Leg. See you then!>

Until then I promise not to twitch a blink or move a muscle! ;) When I see a fast & ready restored $1,000 c-bucks in the till then I'll know that you're ready to rumble! Think I may take <WannaBe>'s advice (<"The Red Army's Hockey Team should win it all!! =)">) and bet it all on RED! ~lol~

Thanks <ChessBookie> :))

Apr-04-09  zanshin: The Umansky bet seems a pretty good one to make ;-)
Apr-05-09  zanshin: <ChessBookie> I know it's just a game, but I don't want to cheat anyone here of anything. So I'll return my $12 winning because I made the bet after Umansky had already moved. I just wanted to see if it could be done.
Apr-06-09  malthrope: <ChessBookie> - if you take <zanshin>'s c-bucks take mine too. ;) I wasn't sure if you were just checking our collective pulse to see if we were awake yet or if it was a gimme. In either case can't wait till the real betting starts! :D - Mal

Chessgames Bookie: We've issued refunds on Umansky bets that were placed after the move game in.
Apr-06-09  malthrope: <Chessgames Bookie: We've issued refunds on Umansky bets... [...]>

That's great <ChessBookie> as I'd hate to see <Sneaky>, <maloophet> & <Chess Gambler> penalized in any way for taking a chance on a longshot which wasn't really there! ;) - Mal

Sneaky: The best bets on the FIDE Grand Prix Nalchik: WINNER tournament are:

Gelfand at 105:1

He is one of the strongest most solid players in the world. He is tough to beat. If Kramnik can draw his way to the finish line time and time again, so can Gelfand.

Mamedyarov at 68:1

How many tournaments does this guy have to win before he starts getting some respect? OK, frankly I doubt he's gonna win, but 68:1 odds? Come on!

Kasimdzhanov at 171:1

Isn't this the same Kasimdzhanov who used to be WORLD CHAMPION? Did he not plow through a field of top rated players including Michael Adams and Topalov to become World Champion? He's not the most likely pick, but you can NEVER count him out of the running.

A longshot bet I don't like is Eljanov at 688:1. I know, the odds are huge, but sometimes a longshot is just throwing your money away. Eljanov might come in a big tie for 2nd place if he's hot, but he ain't walking away with the trophy.

Svidler at 23:1 is more dead money. Svidler is a great player, no doubt, but when was the last time you saw him in the winner's bracket? I love the guy and I don't mean to criticize, but let's face it, he's always the bridesmaid and never the bride.

Apr-07-09  DCP23: <Sneaky: Svidler at 23:1 is more dead money. Svidler is a great player, no doubt, but when was the last time you saw him in the winner's bracket? I love the guy and I don't mean to criticize, but let's face it, he's always the bridesmaid and never the bride.>

I would love nothing more than to make you eat these words when Svidler wins the event, <Sneaky>!

<when was the last time you saw him in the winner's bracket?>

Svidler has been triumphantly winning tournaments right and left through whole of 2008 and 2009.

He became the 2008 Russian Champion, for starters (for the 5TH TIME I might add).

Then he wins the Aker Chess Challenge in Norway, and spanks Magnus Carlsen in the final mini-match!

Then he finishes 1st with 8/10 at Gibtelecom, and in the rapid playoff he owns Vadim Milov 2-0!!! And gets the trophy!

Then he wins the Bunratty in Ireland for the 2nd time straight.

On top of all that, Svidler won a whole bunch of games in team events like the Bundesliga and the French League.

So, to answer your question, he is in the winner's bracket ALL THE TIME.

Apr-07-09  DCP23: Oh and almost forgot:

He continues winning at the Russian Club Cup in Dagomys, beating the Linares champ Grischuk with Black!!!

...and, his win over Harikrishna from the Gibtelecom tourney was nominated for the World's Best Game of February 2009 on Chesspro.

Sneaky: OK, I stand corrected. But he's still not winning this one. I'd feel safer with my money on Kasim.

Stonehenge: My <Current net-worth: -20,936 chessbucks> Bookie, I don't want to see this any longer. Please do something about it :)
Apr-08-09  acirce: Too bad the odds are going to change so much, there's still almost 7 full days left. Eljanov is already down to the ridiculously low 407:1 :( What are they going to tell me next, that Gelfand has more than a 1% chance to win the tournament?

And I would love to see you eat *those* words, <DCP23>. :-)

Someone who says he *needs* the Sofia rules to *make* him play, like Svidler did, is the exact opposite of why many love Topalov's style of play, if not the man himself.
