Jul-19-10  just a kid: He is only on my account :). So far he's doing ok for me :)
Jul-20-10  Boratco: I managed to lose all my bets yesterday. That was my worst day ever!!!!
Jul-20-10  just a kid: <Boraco> I only won the Kramnik-Naiditsch game,so your in some sort of company
Jul-23-10  edsauced: Is there a reason to close Biel bets 1:30 before starting games? I supposed the norm is 30 mins before starting, as in Dortmund.

SwitchingQuylthulg: There is no norm; sometimes the bets close hours early, sometimes not a minute. As long as they don't close too late it works, no?

If <Bookie> isn't quite sure about the starting time, he typically tries to err on the side of caution. Remember that <Bookie> may have to deal simultaneously with multiple tournaments in multiple time zones with multiple daylight saving rules, with tournament A starting round 1 one hour early and all tournaments having their last rounds a completely unpredictable amount of hours early.

SwitchingQuylthulg: <Boratco> <just a kid> My worst (so far) lose-all-bets day featured 12 tickets totalling 17418 chessbucks, try to beat that ;-)
Jul-23-10  just a kid: <Switch>
I don't even bet that much on games lol.

Meanwhile, the Octopus is contemplating retirement for the 3rd straight year after losing almost all of the games the other day,but he will make his decision right before the Fall leg begins...

Remind you of anybody? *cough* Brett Favre *cough*

Jul-23-10  bharatiy: how much cbs one will generally need to be in top 10 at the end of leg?

Jul-23-10  wordfunph: <bharatiy> good question.

<SloVice> thanks for the valuable info.

SwitchingQuylthulg: Note that it's not a coincidence those 2007 numbers are consistently lower. That was a direct consequence of the old betting system (for newcomers, that was basically the same as the current system, just sans credit ratings and a slightly less friendly Loanshark). Then Spring '08 numbers are the highest of any non-ch'ship leg as credit ratings were <more> helpful and the Loanshark <very> friendly. At that point <Sneaky>, <malthrope> and myself petitioned for the current system. ;-) So only the numbers from Summer '08 onwards are really comparable.

SwitchingQuylthulg: By the way <SloVice>, you can find all old results at predictable URLs: chessgames.com/chessbookie/[year][season].html

For example

Chnebelgrind: <SwitchingQuylthulg> good hint. Good example :-)
Jul-24-10  technical draw: <Jun-16-10
technical draw: <Chne> The thing is to take the out the loans BEFORE losing. As soon as you hit zero funds you take out the loan. If you wait until you get the results you might lose and therefore your net worth will be lower and the loanshark will offer you less. >

Well no sooner did I say this the loanshark wises up and changes his formula. Now I can't get a loan this way. I forgot the loanshark can read (maybe).

Jul-26-10  Boratco: <SwitchingQuylthulg: <Boratco> <just a kid> My worst (so far) lose-all-bets day featured 12 tickets totalling 17418 chessbucks, try to beat that ;-)>

Wow, that's too much $CB for me, I wish I can accumulate that much. I will try to beat that one during final leg.

BTW, is that the all time record losing bets in one day?

Jul-26-10  malthrope: Good news <ChessBookie> there is yet one more exciting event for you to consider putting up for bets this month! ;)

The return of the great Morozevich! :D

< IV Torneo Internacional A.D. San Juan - Pamplona (July 24th-Aug 1st). In the 'main event' 10 players playing in a round-robin and he will play along with GM's Laurent Fressinet, Igor Kurnosov, Radoslaw Wojtaszek, Vadim Zvjaginsev, Sergey Fedorchuk, Julio Granda, Eduardo Iturrizaga, J.M. Lopez & IM Roi Reinaldo. >

Full stats, pairings & results by Chess-Results (powered by Swiss-Manager): http://chess-results.com/tnr34216.a...

The complete pairings schedule with round by round results: http://chess-results.com/tnr34216.a...

The 'Club Ajedrez San Juan' Blog: http://ajedrezsanjuan.blogspot.es/

If there is anything more to be discovered I'll be posting it on Grandmaster Alexander Morozevich player's & bio page and/or further updates listed in my <Current Chess Events> ~July~ calendar (yes, it's still located in my Profile)... ;)

Thanks for your astute attention in the above matter. <*grin*>

Best Always, - Mal

PS: The only downside is apparently there is no official website known (with games broadcast 'live') only Blogs and Forums with assorted schedule and technical details (some of which are still not fully updated yet). However, Chess-Results (Swiss-Manager) keeps the tourney info flowing smoothly and the games are available for download shortly after the rounds conclude. ;)

Jul-26-10  bluejay: When might we expect the results of the Dortmund Tournament to be posted? Rd 10 and the Pick 3 were posted but not the Perfecta nor the Winner.

Thank you.

Jul-26-10  bluejay: Have the final Dortmund tourney results been posted?
Jul-27-10  just a kid: Can you update the Dortmund standings? so I can lose every single one of my bets and realize I have less money than I think? ;)

Jul-28-10  malthrope: <eternaloptimist: Just like old times switch & mal r back on top.>

Well, almost... ;)

I'm so bloody confused right now with the bets not being paid off on time... :( Hence, I've completely lost track exactly where I stand, atm?! ~lol~

Just as soon as the <ChessBookie> updates everything paying off all outstanding bets on Biel then finally I'll have a handle on it! <*grin*>

<Re: 43rd Biel Tournament of 2010...

NOTE: In the event of a tie for first place, tiebreak protocols will be ignored and all tickets for players tied for 1st will be paid off.>

Although, there will be a playoff tomorrow to decide 1st, 2nd & 3rd places. The tiebreak rules at Biel this year (published on their homepage yesterday).

<POSSIBLE TIE-BREAK
ON THURSDAY MORNING, 11 am

If two players (or more) finish at the 1st place after the 9th and last round, there will be Tie-break on Thursday morning, from 11 am. Modus: two rapid games (10 minutes, with 10’’/move). If the result is 1-1, then two blitz will be organized.>

So, a bit more action and drama at Biel for us to watch & enjoy! :D

- Mal

PS: <ChessBookie> - any progress made on bets for the 'IV Torneo Internacional A.D. San Juan' (July 24th-Aug 1st)? Bets on the top 3 boards would be quite sufficient. :)

Jul-28-10  wordfunph: <Biel: WINNER : Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son [info] 20 LIVE BET 64:1 64.51 1,290 Jul-29-10>

whoaaa! i hit it big!

<CGB> my paycheck please..?>

<wordfunph> - if <ChessBookie> plays by the rules that were setup and announced in advance (posted in the 'text box' to the Biel: WINNER bet) full quote:

<"Who will win the 43rd Biel Tournament of 2010 starting on July 17th?

NOTE: In the event of a tie for first place, tiebreak protocols will be ignored and all tickets for players tied for 1st will be paid off.">

The 3 GM's Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Fabiano Caruana & Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, who all tied for 1st-3rd place in regulation play (before any tiebreaks take place) will all be 'pooled together' in one single grouping. These funds will then be awarded based on the total amount one actually bet. <*grin*>

<Note:> Think I got that right - I'm sure someone will correct me shortly if it's incorrect. :)

I've got $575 bet on GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (apx 16% of the total combined pool) - beat that! ~lol~ ;)

Still a nice <payday> for anyone lucky enough to have one (or more) of the 3 Grandmasters all tying for 1st-3rd place at Biel (after 9 rounds). :XD

My Best, - Mal
