Chessgames Bookie: ♔ The 2011 Chessbookie Championship! ♔

The Championship Leg is about to commence. By the end of the leg (historically around April 1st, give or take) there will be one World Champion who gets a special prize (usually a gift certificate) and gets immortalized in the Hall of Fame page. The 9 runner ups will receive a combination of Chessgames memberships, T-Shirts, or whatever other goodies we can come up with. Plus, everybody who finishes in the top 10 during the Championship Leg automatically is seeded into next year's championship.

People who qualify for the Championship Leg start off with 10,000 chessbucks instead of the normal 1,000. That doesn't mean that the people who start with 1,000 are not eligible to win the leg, it's just less likely.

So next we have to figure out who qualified for the Championship. There can be as many as 40 people who qualify, but because several people qualified more than once the figure is trimmed down to 29. Going over the ChessBookie Hall of Fame I come up with the following:

(1) 4tmac
(2) anane
(3) AnimusEtOblivio
(4) Barok Espinosa
(5) Boratco
(6) Calcium
(7) Chess Gambler
(8) Chnebelgrind
(9) DrStrangemove
(10) edsauced
(11) Graf Zeppelin
(12) gunsan
(13) gus inn
(14) Mdog
(15) Messiah
(16) Midas Touch
(17) moronovich
(18) NakoSonorense
(19) refutor
(20) Robin01
(21) Selkirk
(22) SkeletonKing
(23) SloVice
(24) Sneaky
(25) SugarDom
(26) SwitchingQuylthulg
(27) Touch of Knight
(28) Winter
(29) wordfunph

I don't think I made any mistakes, but if I have left anybody out please say something now.

So in just a few minutes I'm going to wipe the slates clean (loans too!), deposit 1000 chessbucks in everybody's account, then put an additional 9K into the 29 people listed above.

Gentlemen start your engines, the race is about to begin!

I don't think you left anybody out this year, but you did misspell <banane> ;-)

Jan-04-11  technical draw: OK, I have 1,000 cbs. It's time to pull another TD and finish at least 3rd. (and it's possible because I did it once).
Jan-04-11  wordfunph: “A competitor will find a way to win. Competitors take bad breaks and use them to drive themselves just that much harder. Quitters take bad breaks and use them as reasons to give up. It's all a matter of pride.”

- Nancy Lopez

good luck to all my chessbookie classmates!

Jan-05-11  crippledpawn: Hey what happen to my balance it was 2500
not it a 1000 and I have not made any bets for a while.
Jan-05-11  technical draw: <crippledpawn> The championship leg has started. All balances are re-set. Previous top ten winners start with $10,000 and we unlucky ones start with $1,000. Good luck!

Penguincw: When will the first bet happen?
Jan-12-11  wordfunph: Pick3 in Tata's Group A will stir the start of 2011 Championship, thanks.
Jan-12-11  technical draw: I think the loan shark is trying something new. Instead of taking his interest from the net worth he attaches the interest to the original loan amount. I like this system better. (and yes, I have already taken out a loan!)
Jan-12-11  technical draw: Then again maybe nothing has changed.

WannaBe: Have you cashed in your winning tickets? Those are counted as net worth, but not funds, because you can't use them until they are cashed in.

Also, pending tickets, if you wagered a whole bunch on the winner of the tournament, and they are not paid out until the end of the tournament, technically, they are part of your net worth, but not as fund, since they are not usable, or liquid, as most people like to say...

e.g. my stocks are counted as my net worth, or my house, but they are not funds, since I can't readily use the value of them... Or the lack of, because the depreciations...

Jan-17-11  chesssantosh: thanks <wannabe> for your clear explanation.yeah i have wagered a lot in tournament winner
Jan-17-11  Xenon Oxide: <chesssantosh: thanks <wannabe> for your clear explanation.yeah i have wagered a lot in tournament winner>

A good idea is to try to avoid doing that. If you bet too much on tournament winner you will not have enough liquid cash to wager on the daily round propositions.

Jan-17-11  Xenon Oxide: <Chessbookie> would you fancy doing some wagers on group B or C? or some fun long-shots like long-castling & stuff?

Sneaky: Tata Steel: Rd 3: Pick Three : Draw-White-Black [cash in ticket] 50 YOU WIN! COLLECT 5243

Jan-17-11  technical draw: Tata Steel Rd 3: Pick Three: Discard all losing tickets.

WannaBe: My pick 3 tickets, were completely dependent, on Anand winning, alas, all the tickets were loser!!!

But, I did wager a tiny sum in Giri upsetting Carlsen, to my 'luck' it happened! And that made it all up!!

Woo hoo! I am a genius! =)
