Chessgames Bookie: We now have bets online for the round 4 "Basque games" starting in Beijing tomorrow.

A "Basque game" is one in which both players play two rapid games against each other simultaneously, one with White and one with Black.

Dec-18-13  WinKing: I think rounds 4 & 5(Basque games) may have been played already in Beijing.
Dec-23-13  brankat: Happy Holidays everyone, and good luck with the future "gambling" pursuits!

Chessgames Bookie: <SoUnwiseTheKnight B4> You did indeed win a membership from this, but your request is unprecedented. I have to ask Freeman if somewhere in the fine-print it says that prizes are non-transferable. I hope you don't mind if I leave your post visible, at least for now.

Let me return to you shortly and I will also present the official final standings.

In the meantime, thanks to everybody for playing and start looking forward to the ChessBookie! Championship of the World of 2014.

Stonehenge: <3. The final leg of the year is special, in that the winners and runners up of the previous three legs will start the Winter Leg with 10,000 chessbucks instead of the normal 1,000.>

Isn't this a little unfair? Someone who wins all three legs gets 10000 but someone who only finished in tenth place once also gets 10000.

What about this system:

Extra chessbucks to be added in the Winter Leg:

1st place: 5000
2: 4500
3: 4000
4: 3500
5: 2500
6: 2250
7: 2000
8: 1750
9: 1500
10: 1000

Chessgames Bookie: And the winner of the 2013 Fall Leg is <SoUnwiseTheKnight B4> finishing with 9,440 chess bucks. We'll honor his request to forward his premium membership to another member.

Qualifying runner ups:

(2) moronovich (6,963)
(3) Touch of Knight (5,191)
(4) offramp (3,647)
(5) moulicules (3,495)
(6) ConstantineAnaniadis (3,380)
(7) wordfunph (3,169)
(8) Blue in Ohio (3,130)
(9) Streetlight (2,792)
(10) moppa (2,711)

The next leg is the Championship Leg, which means that all winners and runner-ups in the top-10 from the previous 4 legs are automatically given 10,000 chessbucks at the very start. Even if you didn't qualify, you can still vie for the championship but you'll only start with the normal 1000.

We'll publish a list of all seeded in the Championship Leg soon, which will begin early in January.

Thanks to everybody for playing.

Dec-29-13  wordfunph: <CG Bookie> thanks also :)

congratulations to <SoUnwiseTheKnightB4> and to all the winners, and to my friend <moulicules> who hit the Karpov-Timman jackpot and leapfrogged from nowhere to #5 spot.

2014 ChessBookie Championship of the World coming soon, best of luck to all my fellow bookie addicts and Happy New Year to all!

Dec-29-13  SoUnwiseTheKnight B4: Thank you <Chess Bookie> it didn't occur to me that my request would be so unusual, sorry about that. Anyway that kibitzer has been here a very long time and is more deserving, I just wanted to return a good deed.

<moronovich> and <wordfunph> thanks for your congratulations, I definitely had a run of beginner's luck. This competition IS very addicting as well as nerve racking and exhilarating - and I haven't even seen the championship leg yet!? Hopefully all the heavyweights will show up and make it a memorable championship!

Happy New Year everyone.

Chessgames Bookie: <gauer: Is it possible to wager on any of the The Caissars chessforum nominees of 2014?!> We don't like to do things like, it may place people at cross purposes.

<Stonehenge: Any thoughts about my suggestion from December 29th?> Giving different awards depending on the final leg standings: we did consider it. The biggest fear is that one of the ChessBookie mavens will end the year so far ahead of the others than the Championship Leg will be a foregone conclusion. On the other hand, there is something to be said about players wanting to be #2 instead of #10--as we have it now there's really no difference whatsoever. We'll come back to this after the championship leg is over.

My maximum wager is set to 10.000.

Isn“t this a zero too much?

I don't fear that at all. Let's say that someone finishes the Spring Leg in third place, the Summer Leg in seventh place and the Fall Leg in eighth place. In the Winter Leg he will get (in my system) 1,000 cbs + 4,000 + 2,000 + 1,750 = 8,750 chessbucks. Which is less than the 10,000 he now gets.

In the unlikely event that someone wins all three legs he will get 16,000 chessbucks. I think that when you are so good you actually deserve to win the final leg. And let's not forget that other good players can also earn enough extra chessbucks to have a go at the title.
