Assuming you're talking about the 2014 Championship, the winner received a $100 Chessgames Store Gift Card and a free year of membership.

In other news, I'm on a losing streak. :( Every time I bet on the favourites, the underdog wins. Every time I bet on the underdog, the favourites win. I wonder what happens if I bet on no one...

Aug-10-14  centralfiles: Thanks penguincw
I was referring to the leg winners though.
Aug-10-14  Beholder: What, not even a single bet on the Women?!?
Aug-10-14  centralfiles: Chessbookie:
Just making sure peace special refers to ten matches not the matches of the top ten teams. Though im not sure why 2 3 4 and 5 are mot seperate bets rather are included in 2 or more.

Chessgames Bookie: <centralfiles> Yes, the Peace Special refers to the ten matches on tables 1 to 10, not matches involving teams seeded in the top 10 and not matches involving teams currently in the top 10 (although all matches involving teams currently in the top 10 <are> included in the Peace Special as they are played on tables 1 to 10).

Winners of non-championship legs normally win one year of free Chessgames premium membership (and the top 12 finishers this leg will qualify for the Championship Leg).

<Beholder> Unfortunately, there's less interest in the women's tournament, and likewise less interest in betting on the women's tournament; you will note that Chess Olympiad (2014) has so far accumulated 44 pages of kibitzing, while Chess Olympiad (Women) (2014) is still on page four. We can only offer so many markets.

But Olympiad (Women) rd 9: Armenia +1.5-Russia is now open, and you players can show me that there's sufficient interest :)

That does not mean however that the interest is 11 times lower. People just tend to congregate on a single forum of choice. There are quite a few posts about the women's games on the men's/open page, for one. Also, the interest in betting does not necessarily mirror that in kibitzing.

<But Olympiad (Women) rd 9: Armenia +1.5-Russia is now open>

Thank you, appreciated.

Aug-10-14  centralfiles: Thank You!
Aug-10-14  MarkFinan: <Pick the outcomes of three matches and make a mint! The matches are: 1. Czech Republic +0.5 - France; 2. Denmark +1.5 - England; 3. Israel - Hungary. (For example, if the Czech Republic ties 2-2 with France, England defeats Denmark 3-1 and Israel ties 2-2 with Hungary, the 'CZE +0.5 - ENG - TIE' ticket will pay.)>

???? So if the Czechs get half a point, the Dane's get one and a half points.... and then something else happens (??) the Czech +0.5- England-Tie ticket pays??? The bookie is obviously a professional gambler because out of all the wagers these are the ones I just can't suss! I've been doing okay by sheer fluke and betting on whoever else lays 200 cb's first, and following their lead.

If Mark drinks 3.5 pints, Bob sups 2 and Derek sticks to shandies.... Have I got an extra fiver in my pocket!?!? #DontUnderstand ✌

Aug-11-14  dakgootje: Well yes.

Czechs are on +0.5. So a result of 2-2 would become 2.5-2 in favor of the Czech Republic. So CZE+0.5 wins.

Danes get 1.5. So a result of 3-1 for England becomes 3-2.5, still in favor of English. So ENG wins.

Israel and Hungary are even money. So if their result is a tie, it stays a tie. So TIE wins.

For a total result of CZE+.5 / ENG / TIE.

Aug-11-14  dakgootje: Yeah, I was about to max-bet that option.. but I didn't want to bet something I wanted to fail.

is it possible in upcoming tournaments to bet on the final score of 1st place winner at the beginning of tournament, would make an interesting bet IMO.(in elite tournaments we can bet on loser too)

Also where there different rules for the game previous years because the leg winners of previous years seem to have had astronomical net worth.

This is an interesting idea. Perhaps we'll see it as early as the next tournament (the Riga Technical University Open).

<Also where there different rules for the game previous years because the leg winners of previous years seem to have had astronomical net worth.>

No - actually, based purely on rule changes this leg ought to have <higher> net worths due to the introduction of the mid-leg Pay Day. But remember that the leg is only half-way through; the top players' net worths will pick up yet.

Chessgames Bookie: <KKDEREK> Visit the Loanshark (ChessBookie Game) and see if he'll give you a loan. If he doesn't and you still have some chessbucks to your name, try investing them all in active tickets and attempt again - the Loanshark shows more pity to people with zero funds. If you already have zero funds and still don't qualify for a loan, you'll have to wait; remember the Loanshark will only give you one loan per day.

Don't get discouraged - even if the Loanshark absolutely refuses to give you any loans, thanks to the Pay Day you'll soon have at least 1,000 chessbucks again.

Penguincw: The one time accidentlly wagered cbs on something pays off:

Olympiad rd 10: BUNNY RABBIT SPECIAL : NO [cash in ticket] 100 YOU WIN! COLLECT 188 7:8 1.88 188 Aug-12-14

(well not really, because if I didn't wager 100 on "No", I would've only wagered 100 on "Yes" and not feel the need to back it up, so I lost 207 cbs instead of 100)

Olympiad rd 10: BUNNY RABBIT SPECIAL : YES [discard ticket] 295 LOSE 10:7 2.44 -- Aug-12-14

Tomorrow, the players take a break from playing, while I take a break from losing. :) I promised myself that I wouldn't bet next round, although the bets do look tempting...

For the record:

Olympiad rd 11: STOMACH (5 cbs on CHN-IND-VIE+0.5-CZE+0.5, 3 on everything else)

- 50 on England, China and TIE (Russia-France) each

< Chessgames Bookie: <KKDEREK> Visit the Loanshark (ChessBookie Game) and see if he'll give you a loan. If he doesn't... >

Wait! It's possible to not get offered a loan, even if you didn't take one already? Wow. Several times I've taken a loan, paid it back immediately and was offered the same loan again.

Thats amazing, Spring 2009 winner had 40000+ chessbucks. Tell us the trick
