Sneaky: I do enjoy longshots. My screen is filled with tickets like these

<Sinquefield Cup rd 1: PICK THREE : White-Black-White [info] 2 LIVE BET 208:1>

I didn't even know who I was betting on. 208:1 odds? I'll take it.

Aug-27-14  centralfiles: Sneaky you should take a moment to think before grabbing those 208:1 bets often a rough calculation of the odds will show that its actually worth far less <Sinquefield Cup rd 1: PICK THREE : White-Black-White> final odds posted are about 111.3/1
lets assume Whites(Aronian) chances in game 1 is 25% and the same for black(caruana) in game 2 and Lagrave has a 15% chance against Carlsen that would give you about even money for your bet, not bad but not great either, But i find sometimes there are very long shots that are not worth even 500/1 if you think about it.

Penguincw: What did I just read?

BTW: Was it you <Sneaky> that bet 3 on <7.5 points>? If yes, sorry about that, but I'm getting kinda desperate. :)

I just wanted to settle it once and for all,but on behalf of the other moron I thank you for your kind warning.

Aug-28-14  Beholder: Can't say I'm thrilled with every innovation our new Bookie implemented, but I decidedly love the "DRAW-NO BET" type bets! Keep them coming!

Sneaky: <I decidedly love the "DRAW-NO BET" type bets!> I agree! It's an ingenious idea, and made me a few bucks so far. And by the way: 30:1 odds on MVL? Come on! I don't care if it's Caruana or Kasparov, black or white pieces, MVL can beat anybody on a good day.

Oh, and what about BENDER SPECIAL? That's a fun one too.

<centralfiles: Sneaky you should take a moment to think before grabbing those 208:1 bets> You are ultimately right, but I don't take the game so seriously to analyze every single ticket I buy. I just assume that among a dozen 208:1 odds tickets, they are undervalued when taken as a whole. So I buy the whole basket even if there's a few bad eggs.

<BTW: Was it you <Sneaky> that bet 3 on <7.5 points>?> No Penguin, somebody else hit that one.

When skill and luck can be combined it is a deadly cocktail ;)

Aug-29-14  wordfunph: <(9) 4tmac 4,064>

welcome back!

Aug-29-14  4tmac: Thanks <Word> ! Another huge pick 3 (not the "spread it around" kind, the 150 on DWW kind) Had several of those this leg! But since I have lost just about every other type of bet possible.... :) Anyway, good luck in the final stretch!
Aug-29-14  wordfunph: mate 4tmac, same to you.

<Black-White-White 11 725:1 726.00 A winning 10 chessbuck ticket pays out 7260 chessbucks.>

mother of all jackpots, cheers to the ticketholders!

Penguincw: With today's ticket, there have been at least 2 bets that paid 208:1 or greater this leg already (today's ticket, the Nepomniachtchi special, while Round 1 of Dortmund paid 206:1).

Sinquefield Cup rd 3: PICK THREE : Black-White-White [cash in ticket] 2 YOU WIN! COLLECT 1452 725:1 726.00 1,452 Aug-29-14

Damn. Luck has been on my side recently. All of a sudden, I went from barely over 1,000 chessbucks (and almost sub zero if it weren't for pay day) to just 18 chessbucks behind 12th (assuming that person didn't bet anything).

Sneaky: Longshots are where it's at. Every now and then, some nutcase throws 25 against Carlsen, even when he's playing the white pieces. Not because he doesn't like Magnus, but just because the odds are looking good.

<Sinquefield Cup rd 3: Carlsen-Caruana : Caruana [cash in ticket] 25 YOU WIN! COLLECT 211>

Hehe.

Aug-30-14  Touch of Knight: Could we have a bet on whether MC will sign the contract or not?
Aug-30-14

Chessgames Bookie: <Touch of Knight> That's a very good idea. http://www.nrk.no/sport/fide-gir-et... seems to have good coverage of the issue, but unfortunately it's in Norwegian - do you know of any similarly good sources in English?

(I likely won't open the market until after round 5 in any case, so there's no hurry.)

Penguincw: Not sure if Carlsen's hiding preparation or whatever, but I do not like how he's playing.

Sinquefield Cup rd 4: Carlsen-Topalov : Carlsen [discard ticket] 750 LOSE 11:9 2.22 -- Aug-30-14

Aug-30-14  centralfiles: Sinquefield Cup rd 5
Nakamura-Caruana: OVER/UNDER
Hey the bookie went from 47.5 to 39.5 lets see if the final odds will change.
Aug-31-14  Touch of Knight: <Bookie> This one maybe:

http://www.chess.com/news/ilyumzhin...

Aug-31-14  centralfiles: Oh well over/under 39.5 has about the same odds as over/under 47.5. This doesn't reflect too well on the chesssbookie players.

Sneaky: Question about World Chess Championship: CARLSEN TO SIGN CONTRACT?.

What happens if Carlsen demands that part of the contract is changed, and FIDE acquiesces, and then Carlsen signs the updated contract?

Aug-31-14
Premium Chessgames Member
  Chessgames Bookie: <Sneaky> Good question.

If Carlsen successfully demands a substantially different contract and signs that by September 10, all bets will be refunded. A "substantially different contract" will be one for a match that is not held in Russia in 2014. As long as the contract is for a WCC match in Russia this year, bets will not be refunded due to changes to it.

Aug-31-14  AnimusEtOblivio: The loanshark ain't given me no love :(
