 | | Chessgames Bookie: <Boomie> Unfortunately even bookmakers need to sleep, and I live in the wrong timezone for this tournament. For the coming rounds I've requested help from my elves in the United States (who won't need to stay up past 3am for the last games to finish), but they are busy and I can't guarantee anything. |
|
| Sep-01-14 | | wordfunph: <CG Bookie> i can help. |
|
Sep-01-14
 | | Chessgames Bookie: <wordfunph> Excellent :) |
|
| Sep-01-14 | | dakgootje: Won't put anything on it.. as I have no idea - but to clarify: <Will reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen sign the World Championship match contract by September 10?> When does September 11 start; right after whose midnight? UTC? Norway-time? CG-HeadQuarters time? |
|
Sep-01-14
 | | Chessgames Bookie: <dakkie> CG time (UTC-4); however, if we start running into a heap of articles saying "Carlsen signed the contract on Wednesday [i.e. September 10]" then we'll consider Carlsen to have signed the contract on September 10, regardless of time zones. |

 | | WannaBe: Regarding Sinquefield Cup rd 6: Caruana-Topalov the numbers are search "caruana vs topalov" Topalov won their game last year with black and a Najdorf! Think Caruana will try to open with anything other than e4 (?) =) |
|
| Sep-02-14 | | ChessWriter: Any chance on betting on the US Chess League? |
|
Sep-02-14
 | | Chessgames Bookie: <ChessWriter> Not this week, due to the Sinquefield Cup, but certainly later. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep it in mind. |
|
Sep-02-14
 | | Penguincw: Say, would it be possible to have a bet on who will finish 2nd place (maybe not this round, but sometime this tournament, perhaps after Caruana has clinched). Thanks. |
|
| Sep-03-14 | | MarkFinan: None of my bets went on today! If you check I definitely made them but when I've gone to look they've vanished LOL.
Seriously, unless all betting was cancelled then what's happening? ✌ |
|
Sep-03-14
 | | Penguincw: Only one of my 7 tickets won today, but it was the one that mattered the most: Sinquefield Cup rd 7: Carlsen-Nakamura : Carlsen [cash in ticket] 500 YOU WIN! COLLECT 1011 1:1 2.02 1,011 Sep-03-14. |

|
| Sep-04-14 | | MarkFinan: Okay, and thanks for answering. I'll ask Daniel but I can rule out forgetting to place the bets because I put them on whilst sat in a 15 mile tailback on the motorway!? And I definitely didn't cash them in because I went to see how I'd done once the games were finished and... nothing!? <1) The bets were never placed; either your memory of placing them is simply wrong, or you had some kind of connection problem that prevented those bets from going through. (We've had a number of what-happened-to-my-wagers queries in the past, and this is almost always the answer.)> Definitely no memory or connection problems, lol ✌ |

Sep-04-14
 | | Chessgames Bookie: <MarkFinan> Unfortunately, I can't look in the log files to check what happened to your bets; only a super-admin (Daniel Freeman) can do that. I've asked him to inspect your case. What I can say is that bets never vanish without a trace, even if they're refunded or cancelled; however, it <is> possible to enter the Bookie page using a link (ChessBookie Game) that automatically discards all losing tickets, which sometimes confuses players. Apart from that, I can only think of four reasons why a bet might seem to have vanished when it in fact did not: 1) The bets were never placed; either your memory of placing them is simply wrong, or you had some kind of connection problem that prevented those bets from going through. (We've had a number of what-happened-to-my-wagers queries in the past, and this is almost always the answer.) 2) You forgot you already cashed in or discarded the bets in question (this seems unlikely here). 3) The bets were accidentally placed from a secondary account and therefore wouldn't show up in the regular account's list of bets. (Everyone is reminded that using multiple accounts in the Bookie game is strictly disallowed; if this happens by accident, you should notify me or Daniel Freeman immediately to make it clear no cheating was intended.) 4) The bets were placed and some kind of cache issue prevents you from seeing them. I don't think this has ever actually happened to anybody, but that need not mean it's impossible; if you can see your round 8 bets, though, this is definitely not the answer. |
|
| Sep-04-14 | | MarkFinan: How's that happened?? I answered your reply before you posted it! #Puzzled |

 | | Annie K.: <Mark> 3 possibilities: 1. You are developing prophetic tendencies;
2. Your recent post starting with the words "Dear AJ" has created a shock wave in the fabric of our space-time continuum, and we are lucky the universe still exists at all; or 3. <The Bookie> decided to delete and repost for some reason. :) <Switch> looks like it's official: you get the Winter leg off, so you can play. ;) |
|
| Sep-04-14 | | MarkFinan: Annie.. I'll go with #2 LOL.
My Dear AJ (Btw.. The admins deleted AJ of Alaska's post addressing me as "My dear Mark Finan" so those posts look a little out of place, lol) is sorely missed. #1 and #3 are obviously impossible ,-) Although I have been called psychic before..... at least that's what I think he said!? ✌ |

 | | Annie K.: For sure!! :D
Heh, keep having fun. :) |
|
| Sep-04-14 | | MarkFinan: Always do :-) |
|
| Sep-04-14 | | centralfiles: Chessbookie: Maybe we can have over/under, draw no bet, and opening moves for all 3 round 10 games for a Sinquefield cup grand finale? |

I checked the logfiles and I see a number of bets being placed around 8:30am USA/Eastern today. Of course they didn't all win, but to pick a good example, you bet on Topalov for Sinquefield Cup rd 8: Nakamura-Topalov which is indeed a winner. (Apologies for outing you as a Topalov fan.) When I view your account I see that winning ticket (and several others) unclaimed, but they are definitely there waiting for you to click on them. Is that not what you see? |

 | | Sneaky: I was confused today when I saw a few of my tickets turn grey (losers) and then I realized that Sinquefield Cup: WINNER had already been paid off (!) So much for my dark-horse Aronian bet. |

No worries about outing me as a Topalov fan, although how you guessed from the wagers I don't know, lol. I love tactical chess and he's a tactical player.. Anyway, all those tickets just get cashed as I place the bets. So if I only plan on betting 200 chess bucks that day there's really no need to cash in the tickets until I need them. No worries either way although I assure you I made those bets that day. But yeah, I do see what you see when I go to place the wagers, I just don't know what happened the other day. ✌ |

Well thats not as bad as my bet on Nakamura! (currently 2/8)
It seems wordfunph is on a roll
