chessgames.com: <I just don't know what happened the other day.> Mark, I was looking at bets from Sep 4th but it's clear to me now that your problem was with the bets on Sep 3rd.

Going back to the logfiles I see that you've been a very busy bettor, but I don't see any action on your account on September 3rd. Lots of bets on the 2nd, and on the 4th, but on the 3rd there was nothing. From my point of view it looks like you took a break on that day: no tickets bought, no tickets cashed.

If you could name a specific ticket that you believe you purchased (whether winning or losing) I could try to track it down.

I'm not aware of you using multiple accounts, but if you were, and accidentally made bets under your alternate account, that would explain it.

The Chessbookie game has had a few bugs come to light over the years, but vanishing tickets has never been one of them.

Sep-05-14  MarkFinan: <if you could name a specific ticket that you believe you purchased (whether winning or losing) I could try to track it down.>

Both the Nakamura and Caruana games and the opening move in one of those games. I bet on 1.Nf3 (well apart from d4 I see a lot of players opening with that because it transposes into lots of openings) on a game that day too.

<I'm not aware of you using multiple accounts, but if you were, and accidentally made bets under your alternate account, that would explain it.>

I'll be honest with you Daniel. I have one other account that I've used purely for chess. Not music, football, pointless arguments (!?) or anything else, just chess, but I haven't used that account for about 6 months and I've never ever ever made a bet at the bookies with it.

It's okay Daniel, no sweat, I just wanted to bring it to the bookies attention because I clearly remember placing those bets. No fuss mate, I realise you must be busy. ✌

Sinquefield Cup rd 9: PICK THREE : Black-Draw-Draw [discard ticket] 100 LOSE 70:1 71.02 -- Sep-05-14

If Nakamura won, I would've won 7,102 chessbucks.

Sep-05-14  wordfunph: mate <centralfiles>, your 4k lead seems unassailable and <dakgootje / 4tmac / others> who are heavy bettors, may have the only chance to catch up. I will be happy just to make it to the top 10.

though awaiting for <Robin01> <WinKing> <Animus> <others> to make a stride and give you a good fight for the crown hehe :)

enjoy and goodluck comrade <central> :)

Sep-06-14  dakgootje: <mate <centralfiles>, your 4k lead seems unassailable and <dakgootje / 4tmac / others> who are heavy bettors, may have the only chance to catch up.>

Only when I don't forget about it ;)

I've only had 2 bursts of activity this season. First around the Olympiad, in which I made it close to the leaderboard - only to fall back again. Second one these last 2-3 days, when everything happened to fall my way, and I went from 2k to 12k.

But there is still time, punfun. If memory serves this leg would last until late September or early october.

ps: Why not risk it all? You're guaranteed a Championship leg invite in any case. Don't know how I'll play these last weeks - but it seems the more rational choice than to stand pat for a top-10 finish. ;)

Sep-06-14  wordfunph: <dakkie> of course if there is a chance to go for broke why not? just waiting for the right time :) though i am very choosy when i place my bets.

i believe those past bookie champs are:

+ wise
+ risk-takers
+ heavy bettors
+ opportunists

...and i think they are good in business :)

anyway, let's enjoy the thrill of CG's chessbookie.

my great appreciation to bookiemaster <Switch> and Mr. Daniel Freeman for making this leg interesting and fun.

goodluck <everyone>!

Sep-06-14  dakgootje: And they were lucky ^^ Although that obviously only a part of the equation - because otherwise I'd be multiple chessbookie champion ;D

<my great appreciation to bookiemaster <Switch> and Mr. Daniel Freeman for making this leg interesting and fun.>

Yup! Love the variation in bets that are on offer this leg :)

<oh ohhhh, here we go..>

The thing is.. I don't know how best to close it out :P Guess that to continue as normal might be optimal for the time being.

Sep-06-14  Everyone: <wordfunph> And the same to you with brass knobs on!
Sep-06-14  wordfunph: ...and let me add one of the characters of bookie champs, they are great suckers! :)

<Everyone> welcome and lol!

Sep-06-14  dakgootje: I might have been a bit silly with my bets this round.

Luckily not too much on the line.

Sep-06-14  centralfiles: one day an unassailable 4k lead the next day Ive been relegated to 2nd place. :( Congrats Dakgooje that was a really amazing jump.
Sep-07-14  dakgootje: Not to worry <cf>, the leg is far from over :)

Besides, I made a 500 c$ loss yesterday - so with a bit of luck you'll reclaim the first spot ;)

Sep-07-14  centralfiles: 1.Dakgootje 13,468
This is gonna be tough...
Sep-07-14  centralfiles: Chessbookie: Maybe in future games instead of draw no bet with a refund if game is drawn we can have draw split the pot, the idea being that your betting on how well your candidate will perform so if drawn those who bet on underdog will win but not as much.(not sure how the bookie would get his slice of this kind of bet though when its a draw).

Chessgames Bookie: <centralfiles> Not a bad idea, but the system isn't currently prepared to handle that (if I simply paid off both players as winners, the payouts would be identical to me refunding all bets). Completely new code would be required, and players would find it harder to estimate the odds.

So it's an interesting suggestion, but unlikely to happen.

  Chessgames Bookie: ♗ ANNOUNCEMENT ♗

The Summer Leg will end on Thursday, September 25, with the top 12 players qualifying for the Winter Leg (and the winner receiving free Chessgames premium membership). There's a small possibility the last bets can't be settled until the following day, due to the unpredictable game schedule of one of the final tournaments (TCEC Season 7 Stage 1a), but September 25 will be the last day of betting.

Good luck for the final weeks, and have fun!

Sep-10-14  posoo: What's da winter leg?!! Posoo is sniffing on da top 12! What do I GET if I quallafy?!
Sep-10-14  posoo: ps

posoo is on St. Louis HEAVY today. So LETS SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

Chessgames Bookie: <posoo> The Winter Leg (January to March) is the traditional championship leg of the ChessBookie Game. While a regular (non-championship) leg only offers a concrete prize (traditionally, one year of free premium membership) for the winner, more and bigger prizes (and extra kudos) will be available during the championship leg. The Winter Leg prizes vary from year to year, but normally the top 10 finishers earn free membership and automatic qualification for the next Winter Leg, and the top 2 or 3 get additional prizes (like Chessgames T-Shirts, gift cards to The Chessgames Store or extra membership).

Not qualifying doesn't mean you can't take part in the championship leg, or win prizes - indeed, most years at least one non-qualifier makes the top 10, and Bookie legend <Chnebelgrind> won the Championship as a non-qualifier two years ago - but the qualifiers get a nice head start as they start the leg with c$10,000, while non-qualifiers only get their usual 1,000 chessbucks.

Sep-11-14  dakgootje: <centralfiles: 1.Dakgootje 13,468 This is gonna be tough...>

You know - it would be much tougher for you, if you actually ever had any losing days ;D

Sep-11-14  posoo: LOL uffrump da man never plaid. is there a way u can look at game histories in fics? if so just look at his and u will NEVER see da posoo on it!
