Penguincw: Ouch. I don't think <Mark> has even fired back a shot this month.

This tournament should slightly favour him though. Those of (us) living in the United States and Canada that wish to do some last minute betting will have to stay up late in the night. In Europe, not a problem.

However, overall economic growth in this game has been really quiet the last week. Like, I remember about 3 weeks ago, <Switch> had like 6000 cbs. He seems to have regressed since then (perhaps everyone is waiting for Sinquefield).

I don't think I've even been betting in the last 3 weeks, apart from a couple mini-bets.

Aug-12-15  MarkFinan: <Penguincw: Ouch. I don't think <Mark> has even fired back a shot this month>

That's correct, Pengerz. I haven't fired any shots this month but it's only the 12th, I still have time yet, lol.

Frederick.. I explained that I put 900 on 2 wagers that I read wrongly. I thought the bets were for 6 games not 12. <If> (and it's a big IF) they'd paid out, which I thought they were going to as I explained above, I'd be above you now. Anyway I've gone all in on tomorrow's games. I could have about 2500 afterwards, or I could be dwelling in the cellar where I guess WTR is. Wally's a victim of his own success, lol.

FSR: <Mark> Reading is FUNdamental. :-) Like you, I found the wording of the "Babe Ruth" bet confusing. However, it sounded to good to be true: it would be extraordinary for just six games to add up to 500 or more moves. So I reread the bet and finally understood it. I nonetheless decided to bet on "NO" (fewer than 500 moves in the 12 games) - but lost.

As for the "French Opening" bet, that one really was for just six games - the games in that round of the French Men's Championship. I bet 100 cbs on there being exactly one French Defense played. Happily, that is what happened.

Aug-12-15  sydbarrett: Bookie, if you can cancel the 70 I put on "Karjakin" in "Karjakin-Motylev" that would be great. I meant to bet the 70 on draw. Oh well.
Aug-12-15  sydbarrett: I guess there are no refunds. Ugh, I'll live with it.

  Chessgames Bookie: <sydbarrett>

FWIW: Yeah, refunds aren't allowed, simply because there is no way to refund it. Now if you accidentally placed 70 cbs on something, and want to have it refunded, I'd like to fulfill your request, but there's no way to actually do that. I can leave the line as is, or I can cancel the <whole> line; there is unfortunately no way to cancel part of the line. Sorry. :)

Now if you were the only user to have placed a bet on something, and want it to be refunded, I guess I can do that. Just 1 problem: I have no way of knowing it's you who placed the bet, although I guess refunding a bet isn't too harmful, just place it again if it gets refunded. In that case, I <can> refund it, but I probably <won't>, since that may leave to some complications.

But don't worry, I wouldn't be surprised if Karjakin won. It's not like you made a similar mistake as this fool: ;)

Aug-12-15  sydbarrett: It's okay.

It's true there's a good chance of him winning, almost equal to the chance of a draw. Just that there are so many draws in the tourney, my hunch would be "draw." Who knows, I might have slipped onto the right side of the coin.

Aug-13-15  sydbarrett: Yikes @ the person who bet 500 on a hopeless cause such as Bailet (whoever that is). That could bring a devoted player to tears, oh my. I bet that brought in a lot of vultures who bet on Shirov to gobble a piece of that $500 pie.

Penguincw: Yes, I know. I think the odds were around 3:2 for a 2700 GM to beat a 2400 IM with white, which isn't bad, but imagine how much lower it could be if that 500 cbs bet not been placed.

Now if you further scroll down in the discussion, there were some talks about a time limit for refunded bets (ex. you have the option to retract your bet within say, 15 seconds of your bet). However, there are many problems to that. One is server lag. Another is abuse (but there's a possible solution: max. 5 takebacks allowed/leg, but that could also run into more problems). The last one is the fact that every bet made will affect the odds. One possible solution that just came to my head was that there could be a delay (ex. 15 second wait until the odd table is update). But I imagine that will create a mess too.

I think the bottom line is, it's just a game. No money changes hands, and people usually only mess up once in a while, so it shouldn't be too big of a deal. :)

FSR: "Right" is the closest thing to free money that I've seen thus far in the ChessBookie game. I bet my max, 1000 cbs, on it.

I have to be honest. I really regretted putting the 350 on right up until it won. I have some big wagers today and thank god there's been a lot of draws. I'll miss out on the P3 but the draws, and like Fred posted Right +23, and other wagers are paying out. C'mon MTMAK (Marky the middle aged kid) Lol.

FSR: <Mark> You should've plonked the max down on "RIGHT." Free money.
Aug-13-15  MarkFinan: Fred.. I couldn't get the money out of the loanshark or I would have. I'd already placed some heavy bets which all won apart from a 100 cb back up wager.

Btw. Don't mention a bet you class as a money printer because we won't get the wager again. Can you delete that with Pengerz seeing please Fred? It'll be our little secret, lol.

But regarding that bet, it's unlikely to come back again, since this special day only occurs once a year. If I do happen to run a Summer Leg again, I'll make some modifications. What I did was simply put up that bet, but by the time I went to see if the bet was an "interesting" one, it was too late.

I did consider 2 alternates: give the left side of the board a "+10" (although that would be too confusing), or define the left side as the a-e files.

FTR: My quick count says that the righties won 25, while a-e files trounced the f-h files by 10.

Penguincw: In other news, I have already put out the R6 bets, and well, you guys were lightning to take advantage of those bets. :)

However, "Pay Day" is coming up soon. I'm honestly not sure if I should put out some bets for Saturday, because that might interfere with Pay Day. I guess I'll go ask <cg> right now. :)

<Penguin> I asked <cg> about that when I was running the leg, apparently there is no problem.

Penguincw: Alright then, that's good. :)

Also good news for all the bettors, as I was going to make it a Rest Day. :p

However, it looks like the only bets on that day will be the Riga Open. I may get in the Li Chao-Leko or Ragger-Mamedyarov if I feel like it (unlikely).
