But yes, I see I closed the bets early, as today's a Rest Day. I'll go ahead and open the bets again.

Penguincw: Hmph. Can't come up with any more good ideas for the pre-tournament bets. So, that's it. Just 3 bets plus the winner bet for the before tournament selections.
Sep-09-15  sydbarrett: I was betting 200 dollars and for some reason it registered twice and it became 400... Yearghhhhhhhhhhhhhh *punches hole in wall* Yea I had a bad day today outside of Chess Wars as well, so SYD SMASH

SwitchingQuylthulg: <Bookie> There seems to be an error in World Cup Rd 1: Pick Four (Winners); <Guijarro-Melkumyan-Khismatullin-Edouard> and <Guijarro-Melkumyan-Khismatullin-Smirin> are both listed twice, while <Guijarro-Melkumyan-Areshchenko-Edouard> and <Guijarro-Melkumyan-Areshchenko-Smirin> are not listed at all.

(Also, 3 different spellings of Areshchenko are used, and the seed ratings of Edouard and Smirin have been flipped.)

Sep-10-15  MarkFinan: And the settlement dates are all wrong too.
Sep-10-15  gauer: Regarding World Cup Rd 1: Upset Special - the "seed" means the ratings ranking order, after <all> players are accounted for, correct (some players qualified by different means, and saying 35th seed does <not> merely specify the 35th seed of players qualifying with a rating - it could also included a nominee, whose seed might not depend as much as on his rating (as much as it might for a top-18 rated player))?

Are you able to mention approximately how many 2-way individual World cup match bets you'd be providing per day, especially in the next couple of days (it might affect how I use my loan strategies and betting ceiling - on a leg-by-leg basis, even an approximate <calendar> of betting events per leg would be helpful to the average player)?

Chessgames Bookie chessforum (kibitz #9311) - have you thought about doing that type of a pick-4 there <earlier (say around the 4th round, once you have an 8-way or 16-way selection of players) on> (to possibly build a pot, perhaps a wild-west style guess), and then along with the same in-play pick-4, once the 4 are selected (just an idea)?

Chessgames Bookie: After seeing the above posts, I feel like I'm going to resign my role as bookie... I don't think my schedule can handle this anymore.

< SwitchingQuylthulg >

I honestly think that this bet should be refunded. I was going to do just 3 bets, but thought, why not 4?

< MarkFinan: And the settlement dates are all wrong too. >

That one, I can fix afterward, even if the bet is closed.

Yes, seeds mean like, overall seeds, accounting players who qualified by all means.

Uh, I might do like 5 or 6 game bets/round, though I'm not sure.

I think that's a good idea. One surprise Pick 4, and one Pick 4 where everyone knows.

Sep-10-15  pitapino: The Pick Four (winners) is a perfect bet for the first round. Two more of them (or 3?) put up a couple of days earlier, you could have skipped all this last minute R1,G1 stuff. One bet perfect for this format, list 4/5 matchups and ask how many will need the tiebreaks. you could make it simple just ask the number or difficult and ask to pick which ones. btw- Ben Stein has a 150 IQ.. sorry bookie :(

Chessgames Bookie: Uh, regarding World Cup Rd 1: Pick Four (Winners), here's what I'm going to do.

Firstly, despite the typo in Alexander's last name, I think everyone knew what I meant. The Eduoard-Smirin rating mixup is a little less understanding, but I think I'll let it stand.

However, I'm about to refund any lines that reads Guijarro-Melkumyan-any-any. In the event that it ends up being the winner, all bets will be refunded.

Sorry for another debacle.

  Penguincw: < pitapino >

I'll keep those ideas in mind for Round 2. Thanks. :) But let me just try to dissect this post:

< The Pick Four (winners) is a perfect bet for the first round. Two more of them (or 3?) put up a couple of days earlier, you could have skipped all this last minute R1,G1 stuff. >

Ah, a couple of days, not a few hours. So it wouldn't really work for Round 2.

I saw you describe it as "perfect", so I only refunded some lines, not the whole bet.

< One bet perfect for this format, list 4/5 matchups and ask how many will need the tiebreaks. you could make it simple just ask the number or difficult and ask to pick which ones. >

Okay, this might work for Round 2. I think the regular game bets would be better for the later rounds. I'll try to keep them less until then (perhaps combine them all into a P3 or something).

< btw- Ben Stein has a 150 IQ.. sorry bookie :( >

Who's Ben Stein? Did he say "anything else that doesn't make sense/is confusing is probably my idea" by any chance? If so, I didn't know.

Sep-11-15  pitapino: <Bookie> A few days ago I emailed Freeman a bet to pass on to you cause I didn't want to post it here. Did you see it? I realize now it may be to hardcore (too much homework) but you could still use it for 2nd/3rd rds. or 3rd/4th rds. "Group Therapy"
Sep-11-15  sydbarrett: Jakovenko singlehandedly ruined my upset special bet. Some kind of superGM HE is... >:(

FSR: I must endorse <Syd>'s sentiment.
Sep-11-15  sydbarrett: Grischuk also drew, which removes some of Jacko's onus, and Giri is struggling not to draw against some Ugandan IM. Uganda is known for many great things (like Idi Amin), but let's be honest, chess isn't one of them... I don't know man, but personally I expected a more uniform dominance from the elite players.
Sep-11-15  sydbarrett: Outside of betting, I hope that Ugandan draws Giri. I root for underdogs.
Sep-11-15  sydbarrett: Garcon, I mean Bookie, can you settle my checks please. hehe. It's my day off, give me something extra to do.
Sep-11-15  sydbarrett: C'mon d00d. We all love you. Give us some more action
Sep-11-15  sydbarrett: I was kinda happy because I thought my 100$ Lu Shanglei would pay quintiple. But then I realized there were 2 different "Shanghei vs Moiseenko" bets and I didn't bet on sweet Lu in the "R1" bet... I bet 5 on Moses and 5 on draw. Guess I just broke even... for now (my 100$ only pays if Lu wins the whole round). Still can't believe a few of the elites let patzers draw them
Sep-11-15  MarkFinan: Are they any games tomorrow?

No, I have not seen it. Now that you speak of it, I spent an email to <cg> earlier this week, but still haven't received a response.

Sep-11-15  sydbarrett: I'm guessing the games should resume immediately tomorrow. Having a pause after only the first round of action would be lame.

Penguincw: Yes, I'm going to assume the games continue tomorrow as well. I believe there are games everyday, starting with R1G1, R1G2, R1 tiebreaks, R2G1, etc. There is one rest day later in the tournament. This process repeats until R7 (the last round), as there's one game/round, max. 4 games + tiebreaks.
