Oct-02-17  abhishikt: Argh... last leg I finished 12th, this leg 11th :-(

Was seating happily at 7th spot and everything changed on last day. Should have placed bigger/more/riskier bets...

Penguincw: Thanks for a good leg, congrats to the winner and qualifiers, and see you soon. Good luck <Switch>.

< abhishikt: Argh... last leg I finished 12th, this leg 11th :-( >

That means you're going to finish 10th next leg and make it into the Championship Leg. :)

Oct-02-17  sydbarrett: Good playing everyone. Cheers.

eternaloptimist: Yes, I FINALLY finished in the top 10 in a leg in Bookie (pumps fist)! I've been trying to do this for several years. I'd like to say congrats to the other 9 who finished in the top 10. Thx <CG, wordfunph, Penguin & syd>! Also thx to <Annie K.> for doing a superb job as the Bookie!

FSR: <abhishikt> Oddly enough, we switched places on the last day: I had been sitting at 11th, and ended up 7th. I bet 1,500 CB$ (the max) on Carlsen-Nakamura ending in a draw, which it did - resulting in a profit of just over 1,500 CB$ on that bet. Also bet 100 CB$ on Anand-Hou Yifan ending in a draw, which worked out less well. It's always a tricky decision when you're in the bottom half of the top 10 on the last day whether you should stay put or take a risk. Had I been in your situation, I might well have not bet on the last day - and then been unpleasantly surprised, as you were, when four players leapfrogged me.

Anyway, I hope you continue your upward climb in the next leg. Good luck!

FSR: Congratulations to <syd> on another brilliant victory, and to all the other qualifiers! Congrats on finally making it, <eternaloptimist>! Thanks to <Annie K.> for doing a great job as ChessBookie!

FSR: Incidentally, <Touch of Knight> deserves special recognition for longevity. He finished 4th in the Summer 2006 leg (just the second leg in the ChessBookie Game's storied history). He finished 5th in the just-ended leg (11 years after his first top-10 finish), and 4th in the one before that. He's finished in the top 10 15 other times, including 2nd place finishes in Spring 2016, Fall 2014, and two Championship Legs (Winter 2014 and Winter 2009). Only the mighty <SwitchingQuylthulg>, two-time ChessBookie Champion of the World, has more appearances in the ChessBookie Hall of Fame (22) than <TOK>'s 18. And unlike certain of us who generally inhabit the lower rungs of the top 10, almost all of <Touch of Knight>'s finishes have been in the top 5.

So far, however, <TOK> has been denied the ultimate prize. Here's hoping that he achieves it in the near future.

Oct-03-17  WinKing: Thanks <Annie K.> for hosting a fun filled Summer Leg. Congratulations to <sydbarrett> on winning the leg & congrats to all those who qualified for the Championship Leg.

Annie K.: Thanks everybody for the appreciation, congrats to the winners, and good luck to <Switch> and the players for the next leg. :)
Oct-04-17  Touch of Knight: <FSR>, Thanks for your kind words. I still love this game as much as I did ten years ago. I am fully aware of that I have not won a leg yet. It is one of my dreams that I eventually will win, but that is not an easy task with so many knowledgeable chess friends participating in the game.
Oct-04-17  wordfunph: with TOK's 18 appearances (or 18 bookie GM norms) in HOF, i consider TOK as a 2600-caliber GM in ChessBookie.

  eternaloptimist: Thx <Annie>!

Thx <FSR>! It feels good to finally get the monkey off my back. I second your motion on giving <TOK> special recognition for longevity. He's been very good at this game for a long time.

<TOK> That's true that u haven't won a leg yet but it seems like it's destiny that u will win 1 eventually. I wish u good luck in that endeavor!

<abhishikt> I felt your frustration myself until the end of this summer leg. A long time ago (I think in 2010 or 2011) I was #7 in the standings very close to the end of a leg. A few ppl passed me a week or so before that leg ended. I made some picks to try to get back in the top 10 but got them wrong & I wasn't able to get back in it. I've been in the top 10 since then but this summer leg is the 1st time that I've been in the top 10 close to the end of a leg since then. I was finally able to stay in it to the end of that leg. I think there's a really good chance that u will finish in the top 10 eventually. Just keep your head up & keep trying!

FSR: <sydbarrett> in the Summer Leg set a new record for the lowest number of chessbucks of any winner of a leg (8,620). He got almost twice that number in winning the Spring Leg.
Oct-11-17  sydbarrett: That's fake news, Fred. I just had the most dominant season of ALL-TIME.
