Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Domdaniel: <Jess> On balance, I think I'd prefer <"You used to be different"> to <"you used to be the same!">.

But that's possibly just me.

Apr-13-07  mack: <Dom>

You know how every new band these days instantly churn out the most boring single you've ever heard? And that they all look the @#$%ing same, and sound the same, and all have @#$% names? Well apparently there are some new kids on the back called - urgh - the 'Klaxons', and their lead single appears to be called 'Gravity's Rainbow'...

Jesus wept?

Apr-13-07  mack: 'New kids on the back'!?

Domdaniel: Klaxons, huh? Pynchon has a running riff through a few books about the Lost Vivaldi Kazoo Concerto... and has produced some highly punkish lyrics in his day, notably "I'm a cop" ... and Laurie Anderson did one called Gravity's Angel ... and Pynchon allegedly met John Cale to discuss a musical of Gravity's Rainbow ... and none of this is really relevant, is it?

Klaxons. "A screaming comes across the sky..."

Only 760 pages to go.

  Domdaniel: Frogspawn Notice.

Right, that's twice that Jesus bloke has been mentioned today. As per our new Prophet Equality Program, we have to at least try to give equal airtime to Mohammed, L.Ron Hubbard, Akhenaten, and the Mormon guy. Brigham Young or the other one, take your pick.

Tom Cruise is not a prophet under the terms of the act, and Saint Nimzo belongs in a different category entirely (deceased, and not currently claiming otherwise).

Prayers will be beamed towards the spiral nebula in Andromeda for those who comply.

JESUS IS LORD

This just in, CNN reports conclusive evidence that Christianity is the "one true religion."

Sorry mate, but who are we to question the integrity/accuracy of CNN?

Signed,

Domdaniel: <Jim Jones> Dot and Doh, Big Harv of the Harvey's Bristol Witnesses, Isaiah Two-Four, Apophis, Mother Mary Wildebloode, Teresa of Avila ... anyone deserving of prophetude, really, I wasn't trying to be exhaustive. Just spread it around, cos *they* won't...

Prophecy should not be confused with Prolepsis, which is a literary device whereby characters at the start of a story know stuff that only happens later on.

Prophecy, examples of:

(1) There shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth (1:999)

(2) White Thighs for the Derby (9:2)

(3) Tomorrow is another day (evens)

For Fox' sake...

Can't check any of this, as <mack> has already caught me googling today.

<Jess> ... wasn't he (or 'He') one of the Monkees? And they sang I'm a Believer? And 'sang real' is the Holy Grail ... a-and I'm a Believer was written by Neil Diamond ... diamond is carbon and so are organic life-forms, but diamond also indicates the purity, translucence and shininess of the Immortal Soul.

And 'Neil Diamond' is a corruption of the Rasta prayer "Kneel down, mon".

It all fits. Praise Lud.

Domdaniel: ... and many of us, including the primates present, are descended from Monkees. Wheeeeee.

The rest are descended from beetles and stones. And holly.

Apr-13-07  mack: <Beetles and Stones>

It all comes back to Robert Pollard in the end, doesn't it? This is a very, very early song, so I think we can forgive the slightly sloppy lyrics a bit:

I've met famous people
I've sung famous songs
Famous people sing famous songs
And the situation's totally @#$%ed - totally wrong
Do you wanna shout at the devil?
Do you wanna twist and shout?
This is the lesson that I have learned
This is Fats Domino and Mary Hopkins
A quest for fire
Growing in the movieland anthills
Out of the dirt of a southern poorch
Rehearsal for the reversal
Loudly in the chaos of a
Checkerboard ballroom
Bricks and bones
Beatles and Stones
Don't confuse success with luxury
Success doesn't exist
Success is drugs if you want it
Got love if you want it
But no one wants it
Because flesh and blood is made out to be more
I want long hair
I want free love
I want no more war!
Isn't this the same old song
It's the same old story - Isn't it?
Beatles and Stones don't break bones
And words can never harm you

  jessicafischerqueen: <Dom>

LOL no that's <Mike Nesmith>

Neil Diamond's real name is <Neil Scwhartz>, btw.

He also wrote "Red, Red, Wine,' the big UB40 (remember them) hit, and I believe he also wrote <Battle Hymn of the Republic>

<Dom,> I don't mean to alarm you, but since you incorporated FROGSPAWN, the rate of posts in your forum has trebled, and the content of the posts have become CONSIDERABLY more insane.

I'm considering yet another "intervention."

Don't worry, again, "Sometimes it's just best".

Apr-13-07  Eyal: <Nimzo could beat Alekhine -- many great games between the two, with Alekhine ahead by a nose> I think that's a bit unfair to Alekhine to put it that way: +9 -3 =9 (http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...) is quite a big nose... (unless there are wins by Nimzo not included in this database).

Domdaniel: <Eyal> Very well... what's the next UMM (unit of metaphoric measurement) up from a nose? An arm and a leg? A human body? A football pitch? An Isle of Wight? A New Jersey? An Earth?

In honour of Kurt Vonnegut, we'll just say he beat him by a chrono-synclastic infundibulum.

Apr-13-07  WBP: <Dom> I've always taken solace in the <unit of metaphoric measurement>; that's how I've impressed the ladies!

Domdaniel: <Jess> Too late for intervention, I fear. Who would you intervent? It's alive, autonomous, alien, and it keeps growing even when I'm not here.

Quite like the Giant Adenoid that ate Belgravia, actually. But it's not crazy at all, oh no....

Domdaniel: Neil 'Schwarzer' Diamond also wrote "Pot Smoker's Song" which appeared on rare early versions of a 1968 record called "Velvet Gloves and Spit" (and for once nobody has to ask the eternal question 'what was he smoking?'). It went:

"Pot, pot
Gimme some pot
Forget what you are
You can be what you're not."

As soon as the record company noticed they deleted the track and pointed him firmly back at red wine and the spangly granny market.

He also went to school with Bobby Fischer and Barbra Streisand.

I know all this cos I've been shot with a diamond of light through the forehead.

Not crazy at all, oh no.

jessicafischerqueen: <dom> now we're going to have to sue you for unauthorized reproduction of copyrighted material from <Apocalypse Now>.

don't blame me, it's all <Chess Classics'> fault for directing the attention of INTERPOL to this site.

Cheers,

<Yes sir. Insane. Very much so, sir.>

Apr-14-07  WBP: <Dom> I thought I'd deleted <I've always taken solace in the <unit of metaphoric measurement>; that's how I've impressed the ladies!>, figuring thatit was rather tasteless, but I now discover that I have been, once again, thwarted by technology. My apologies, sir.

jessicafischerqueen: tasteless? in here? Not possible, I don't think.

This is FROGSPAWN, the Online Chess Journal That Thinks You're a Frog.

Morning Bill!!! Nice intro to Meldrum, shudda bin longer- good concisednessosity though. I found a few more vocalization sites last night before bed, one is truly alarming.

Then there's the 'Blair Witch" style sasauatch footage of someone's camera being found that shows that a Sasquatch killed him.

Good fare just before bed!!

Jess of the Yard.

DON'T FORGET WILSON'S MAN V MACHINE TODAY 10 AM PACIFIC STANDARD TIME

See Wilson's Profile for details- Yahoo New Chess Advanced Lounge Room 8.

Apr-14-07  WBP: <Jess> <Then there's the 'Blair Witch" style sasauatch footage of someone's camera being found that shows that a Sasquatch killed him> Really! That does sound creepy! Not seen that one. Have not heard back from Meldrum--he may not use any of it, but I was frankly thrilled to be asked!

By the way, are you aware you called <CC> <Chess Lassics> in your last post? Trying to find a new way of provoking him? Also, thanks for the <Wilson> notice--will try to tune in.

Hope the work strain is tolerable. I'm heading right into a bigtime trainwreck!

Best, Bill (...rivit...rivet..)
