Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

   Jan-04-19 G Neave vs B Sadiku, 2013 (replies)

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

   Dec-30-18 Robert Enders vs S H Langer, 1968

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

  jessicafischerqueen: <mack> Wutie fibb.

OK I was trying to type "quite right" with smoke in my eyes, then it came out <Wutie fibb> so I decided to leave it.

Sue me!

Jun-26-07  mack: <Wutie Fibb> Uh-oh, I sense another ridiculous on-running joke...

W.F.

Jun-26-07  achieve: <mandatory gender testing> Yeah! I'm all into that!

(Pfffffff It will be my first time as arbiter - take it easy..)

Everyone passes my 'test', as long as "you are committed' and reliable.

"Fingerspitzen gefühl".

Seriously though Dom, I didn't expect you to take it on -- The time this sort of match-up requires is enormous, day after day.

Takes a real stud, to take it on.

Jun-26-07  achieve: <Jess> Sorry. I reposted.. ;-)

jessicafischerqueen: <mack> You'll be pleased to know that in Canada, a <Mackinaw> is a type of <jacket>.

They call them <jackets> over there, don't they?

I know you guys call <sweaters> "jumpers" for some reason.

ROFL "jumpers."

Domdaniel: <Jess, mack> Thanks for the encouraging noises. Much appreciated.

Us poets are sensitive types, as you both know, and every little bit of positive feedback is good for morale.

- Not *too* positive, mind, that might be seen as carte blanche to churn out more of the stuff...

Ta.

  Domdaniel: <achieve> - <Takes a real stud, to take it on. >

Yes, I suspect it probably does. Luckily, I have no delusions in that department. I'd be lucky to hold down a job as Assistant Pheasant Plucker on a stud farm.

Domdaniel: <jacket> Isn't that some kind of secret police file? "Think I'll jacket in..."

<geekspeak> Take the jumper lead and jacket into the pedal orifice...

Oh no, not again.

Domdaniel: <Wutie Fibb> I had a long-running secret identity, Norple Flutch, that came from a similar source. Even today, in certain circles, I'm liable to be met with cries of "Norple Flutch is innocent".

He was, too. Wutie can join the club.

  jessicafischerqueen: Hi <dominus>!!

You'll be pleased to know that <Eyal> has agreed to team up with me in a Consultation game!!

I just emailed <Branko> with the news.

Churn away man!

Domdaniel: <Jeffica> Excellent news: Eyal will hold the line against the Wild Women of Wonga.

I'd only have let you down. Then again, maybe everyone would've been happier that way... less opposition across the board for you and Deffi, less opposition on the 'same' side of the board for Branko. And I'm hopeless without engine backup anyway, these days.

That, I suspect, is a joke.

Domdaniel: <Deffi, Jessica and the DSB> continued... only 6809 verses left...

The Tournament was over but the pawns were still playin' for high stakes, Old style clocks were tickin' and digitals were quiet between takes, Then he walked up to an e-pawn and he asked him with a shout, "Can you kindly tell me, Bud, if you'll ever let me out?" Then he made a fianchetto, subtly, like the DSB.

He moved across the checkered board,
"Set the pieces up again", he said.
But everyone returned to Najdorfs and Nimzo-Indians instead. So he moved up to a stranger and he took him en passant, 'You'll wind up famous, friend, and it won't hurt for long', Then he slid back to the corner, sideways like the DSB.

[to be mixed in with previous verses...]

jessicafischerqueen: It's true, your words have the same metre as the lyrics. But with Chessy stuff instead of incomprehensible imagery!!

Why can't I stop shouting!! Every single day I "run out of Cap Locks."

Is anyone else even aware that we have a "daily limit" of Cap Lock use?

Who knew?

Jun-26-07  mack: <Dom>

Oh, encouraging noises are a must. Or, at the very least, noises of some sort. The worst thing in the world is no reaction at all - at least if people say something you've written is a piece of @#$% then you know you've affected somebody's mood somehow. But indifference? Yuck.

jessicafischerqueen: <Froggy Report> I worked all week on <French Exchange> with my new chess coach. He/she has a secret identity, like <MannBee> the Superhero.

I believe they both belong to the "League of Justice" or something like that.

I'm not up on my <superman> comics.

I prefer <Asterix> even though he has a <super magic potion>, I suppose.

Plust, <Asterix>, of course, is <Froggish>!

  jessicafischerqueen: Hi <mack>, wearing a <Macinaw> today, or a bloody <jumper>?

Please address me as <Batchtimeg> from now on, Ok?

Jun-26-07  mack: <bachtimeg> = game bitch?!!

What's all this about a chess coach? Maybe it's the Old Corinthian inside me speaking, but I'm just too stubborn to get, like, proper training. 'I *can* crack chess tout seul, I *can*...'

Jun-26-07  Eyal: <Her first name is <Batchtimeg>!!>

According to what some people say (in Batchimeg Tuvshintugs), she prefers to be called "Chimi".
