Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Domdaniel: <mack> Various belated stuff: the Emu has been located and responded to. Ve-ery innaresting, and thanks.

Geurgling the group in question, I found a nice pic of you infiltrating the Cabinet War Rooms in January. Congrats.

I suppose *everyone* in those august surrounds keeps saying "Gentlemen, you can't fight here, this is the CWR."

  jessicafischerqueen: <Dom> thanks mate!

Also, thanks to you I "updated" my Profile to include <Bobby's last words> you kindly gave me.

Also I put my GIANT EXTINCT MOA back in there as well.

So while I was in there fussing about anyways, I upsdated my Yahoo rating and was SHOCKED after I typed <1848>.

That year, of course, every country in Europe had a giant revolution and every single one of them failed.

Does this augur ill, or well for my chess destiny?

Feb-18-08  mack: <Dom> Cheers, that was very quick. Top man. The infiltration pic you speak of is the one with Ipswich Town hat and the wonky bow-tie, right? Crumbs. Class traitor, much? At least you've seen conclusive proof that I actually exist.

jessicafischerqueen: GOOD GRIEF THAT COINCENDENCE CAN'T BE EXPLAINED!!!

This is spookier and spookier.

If i wasn't a member of <Richard Dawkins'> crazed cult of normal people who actually think, I might believe that DARK SECRET FORCES are in play....

I mean dark forces other than <neutrinos> whipping through our bodies every nano second at <not the speed of light>.

Do you know how they found out that <neutrinos> go slower than the speed of light?

I watched a whole documentary on that ONE subject on <BBC Horizons> (my new favorite TV show).

I loved the documentary on <neutrinos>.

I didn't understand a single word of it either.

Domdaniel: <Jess> What was it Updike said?

"Neutrinos, they are very small
They have no charge and have no mass
The Earth is just a silly ball
To them, through which they gaily pass..."

Yes - for Fuchs' sake - we should do something.

Never let it be said that <Frogspawn forsakes Fuchs>.

Feb-18-08  Red October: ♔♔♔ POLITBURO DECREE ♔♔♔

The POLITBURO is aghast at the low drawing percentages at Morelia and has vowed to undertake swift action to propitiate the <God of the PETROFF> so that this may not continue in Linares or the Spanish leg of the event.

In order to so propitiate the aforementioned <God Petroff> in Spain, we need a <SPANISH VIRGIN>.

Thus the POLITBURO has designated <Domdaniel> who has not thus far, and will not ever play either side of the Spanish Opening the <OFFICIAL POLITBURO SPANISH VIRGIN>.

The <SPANISH VIRGIN> will be sacrificed at DAWN.

♔♔♔ END OF POLITBURO DECREE ♔♔♔

Domdaniel: <mack> What can I say about the hysterically self-important Social Affairs unit? Which is or was a 'silly little game' -- chess, or the cold war?

There is an *awful* lot of protesting too much in that book review: over and over we're told of the vapid uselessness of chess and the wickedness of leftists and the drunken soviet union with its 'obese' missiles. Maybe he meant 'obsolete'?

Or is it a deliberate contrast with the sleek manly muscularity of western missiles, every WMD toned to perfection?

I'd be curious to see how this article plays with certain kibitzers who broadly agree with its politics but are also, presumably, chess fans.

<Everyone else> Give yourself paroxysms -- click on the link (with <socialaffairsunit>) in <mack>'s previous post ... discover that all chess books are 'matrices with stupid squiggles' ... and worse.

jessicafischerqueen: <Dom>/// WHOLLY NEUTRINO BATMAN!! UPDIKE (and every physicist on earth) WAS WRONG!!!!!

That's the AMAZING thing these two guys discovered after a forty year experiment.

The one guy had a forumula that mathematically proved what the magnitude of the sun's radiation HAD to be if it indeed was a <nuclear fusion reactor>.

Now, since the mass etc. of the sun is well known, the math could not be disproved.

But according to the forumula, two-thirds more <neutrinos> should hit the earth than the forty year experiment was detecting.

THEN it was discovered that two thirds of the neurtrinos were CHANGING INTO OTHER KINDS OF PARTICLES ON THEIR WAY TO THE EARTH FROM THE SUN.

This meant two things:

A: the neutrinos had to be travelling slower than the speed of light.

and therefore:

B: Had to HAVE MASS!!!

The two guys both won the Nobel Prize for Physics when the discrepency between the forumula and the results was solved.

By the <Japanese>, of all people!!!

The result was again confirmed by the <GIANT NEUTRINO MASS STUDY> and that's when the two guys got the prize.

ISN'T THAT FREAKING AMAZING??????

And you know, the story thrills me no end...

and mark me well-

I still don't understand a single word of it.

Do you think I'm insane?

Morphette of the doesn't understand her maths.

<Deffi> I don't want to alarm anyone (more than I'm already alarmed),

But as the night goes on, your avatar regularly changes from relaxing blue to MENACING RED and a bunch of very scary <DECREEES> are issued...

(looks left, right)...

Please don't execute <Dom>!

He's not a program, I swear.

The mighty <Trojan Warrior>:

Music to be played when we execute <Dom>. Yes, let's execute the old miserable git. We don't give a toss, do we?

Hmm, actually I do. Allright let's just torture him a little bit.

Domdaniel: <give my regards to Bono.. he's from your part of town right ?>

Well, in a way. We may even have played in the same schoolboy chess competition in the 70s. But then, still in the 70s, I saw his new band, U-something, and thought they were rubbish.

After that it gets hazy, but I think he called me 'the devil incarnate' once.

But I saw his beat combo again in the 90s and they were pretty good. They'd learned to play and compose songs in the interim.

These days we move in different circles, however.

Domdaniel: Ha. I'm just about to be executed - or made to play 100 Spanish games, which is cruel and unusual with knobs on - when the site went down. Earthquakes are so last millennium.

And lo, it is always dawn somewhere in the world, and verily it is always the darkest hour just before the dawn somewhere else. But not many holy books will tell you this: they don't allow for the International Date Line, aka the <Transnational Chat-up>.

Truly <Dom> is the son of <Mod>.
