Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Apr-18-08  8284: <Domdaniel>, <all>

When I opened my chessforum last week some people here realised that they are on my ‘ignore list’ They felt offended, at least astonished. Well, they shouldn’t. Please don’t feel offended.

< I have nothing against any chessgames.com user !!! <<<<>>>>>

I only use this tool to reduce the information flood of the chessforum-page here at chessgames.com. Hence a great number of the top 40 posters are on the list.

I use this method already for one year and it worked for me. I read most of these great fora over weekend, but don’t post that much anymore - you may have noticed - as a lot of themes were then completed. It’s like reading a bi-monthly magazine instead of a daily newspaper.

I am sorry if my behaviour caused any confusions on your side and I apologise for any inconvenience.

With best wishes and compliments

Domdaniel: <8284/whiteshark> Well, um, thanks for explaining. I wasn't actually offended, of course, but I was both amused and bemused. I suspected some sort of overload thing: perhaps you wanted to concentrate on, say, *chess* - weird though that may seem here in the benthic depths of Frogspawn - so naturally you Iggy'd those most likely to distract you from Rook Endings.

I take that as a compliment.

So ... just to get this straight in my head (man) ... none of this stuff, including the previous debate on possible Hai-motives, is actually visible to you in your Whiteshark persona. But, as <8284>, you can see it all anyway.

Hmm. If this is to work, <8284> should be like an android with built-in telomere decay, or some kind of artificially truncated lifespan. He needs to live just long enough to explain what <Haifisch> is up to. Then he dies.

Otherwise he might take over, which would defeat the whole purpose.

Anyway, <whiteshark> had the dubious honour of being the first and only user ever put on *my* Iggy list. After about 8 hours I realized I couldn't keep up the act, and I un-Iggy'd you/him.

There'll be no more Iggying on my watch. But I understand your reasoning, and good luck...

You're not by any remote chance the famous sanitation engineer whose domain was a gigantic septic tank?

  Domdaniel: Libertas ientaculum est.

Freiheit ist Fruhstuck.

La liberte, c'est un petit dejeuner.

Freedom is a breakfast food.

<Grob's Angriff 1.g4> is, of course, named for one of its foremost analysts and exponents, the Swiss painter Grob. Not to be confused with the archaeologist who wrote about Bronze Age Bog People, thus influencing the poet Seamus Heaney. Was he a Glob or a Grob?

But is it total coincidence that 'grob' means 'coarse, profane, crude, blasphemous, rude' etc in Yiddish?

And it's a <Reverse Borg> as well.

<Resistance is feudal.>

Even in ohms.

Domdaniel: What was it that Niels said? "Leave him alone for a while now, he's playing with his Dick Shunnery" -- being <Doc Uh-veh Achiever>, he naturally put it more delicately than that.

When I play with my dick shunnery, do I shun my dick playery?

I want ... a shrubbery. And no more Bushes, ever. Let a thousand privets wilt.

When you wilt, they won't.

Apr-18-08  achieve: heh - "dick shunnery" - heh

Domdaniel: It is now well known that Thomas Edison claimed credit for discoveries and inventions really made by his assistants.

For example, his efforts to build a viable domestic sewing machine -- a crucial element in the femino-industrial revolution, liberating women from tasks like peeling an endless potato and freeing them to darn a bottomless sock instead.

But Edison's machine simply didn't work. He turned to his assistant, young Tom Swift, and barked a command.

"Make it sew", he said.

Domdaniel: And for my next trick ...

I dunno. Maybe I could try Latinizing the rest of the Dylan oeuvre. Should keep me "busy" for a while.

As my good friend Idle Nomad always says, "The Devil finds work for Idle's hands -- he'd dam' well better, it's in the contract. And us Nomads don't sell our souls cheap, whether we actually believe in 'em or not".

Surveys show that 61% of Americans would sell their souls to Satan, but only 13% would sign the same contract with Beelzebub, and just 4% with Lucifer. And 98% of those who *would* sign a demonic contract would worry about getting blood into the pen, and who might have used the nib before, and whether the Lord of the Flies had access to good sterilization equipment.

And 52% of those who don't believe in the Devil would sell their souls to him anyway, if the price was right. The price, rather tediously, tends to consist of some combination of money, sex and power, with a bit of comp/cyber stuff thrown in ... like, eg ... "I want a bright purple Paris Hilton, no, wait, make that *four* Parises in different shades of maroon, plus a laser pointer with tits ... and I want Bush and the Russian guy cheering me on while I, you know, give it to 'em. Especially the laser. Oh, yeah, and a laser beam set to stun shining out of my @#£@ as well ..."

Ah, human imagination. In the old days they invented proper gods. Thor, Odin, Loki, Freya ... they were gods. But the current lot ... it's enough to drive you to zerotheism.

Domdaniel: <Zerotheism> Atheists are *unbelievers*: they claim that gods do not exist. A Zerotheist is one who believes that the current number of gods in the cosmos is equal to zero. It is a logical progression from polytheism and monotheism.

Zerotheists allow that the number might be different in the past or future. God may not have been born yet, for example. Or she might have been around in the past, but expired. Or both, given a few wormholes and timeloops, easy-peasy for a deity.

We *have* learned that, whether they exist or not, gods speak Dutch - but not very well.

- Mijn god, wat mankeert je?

- Er zit niets anders op. Dag, nu.

Domdaniel: <Deffi> You and me - and Jess, and Bill - at least - all seem to have some kind of <Multiple Personality Syndrome>.

But *not* 'Disorder'. One of the personas, Stella Errans, is an obsessive-compulsive tidyer-upper (her parents were savaged by an enraged dishwashing machine). She never lets things get disordered.

"Razor blades
Cannot defeat you
Only wounded fridges
Eat you."

We could have a convention. Book a hotel and conference hall for thousands ... <mack> can stay in the bar, and Niels can play the piano.

NN, NN and NN can stay away, as they haven't got a single personality between them.

... better make sure the dates don't clash with the Chess Championship ... or TorturCon '08, where they unveil the new Torture Operating System ...
