Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

jessicafischerqueen: <Pogonina> has been up to the same thing she has been her entire life= expressing the most collossal, and supercilious, arrogance humanly possible at every opportunity.

Here is how she asked <Kingscrusher> to make a video annotation of her work:

DIRECT QUOTE=

<Pogonina> "Do you feel up to trying one of my games"?

Unbelievable bloody cheek.

A: the man has made over 1000 high quality video annotations- most of which are on chess players of considerable more strength than <Pogonina>

B: the man has a Rybka and he knows EXACTLY how best to use it in order to shed the most very expert light on a master level chess game.

C: the man is himself an OTB player of considerable talent and strength- he has beaten IMs and GMs at various time controls, his ECF rating is a solid high expert 185 level, and he was recently awarded the English title of <Regional Master>- he has not played in enough FIDO events to qualify for FIDE Master or International Master consideration.

I wouldn't piss on <Pogonina> if her heart was on fire.

Nov-30-09  achieve: WHAT??! Please not again!

Actually KC and NP have been quite "tight" during <Pearl Springs>, and their tete-a-tete's were quite amusing and instructive, the large majority on KC's "initiative":

Fact: "video annotation" -- Carlsen vs Wang Yue, 2009

Added to that I have to say that KC's analysis video's of the Tal Blitz were absolutely awful re approach and execution, in my opinion, though I do value that he at least takes the time to address those games.

But the first 10min vid I couldn't get past 5 minutes, then turned it off. Never did that before, really. Very messy. But I have to say on KC's behalf that he was very clear about his "main aim" in "going over" those games.

Peace.

Nov-30-09  achieve: Btw <Dom> - I noticed this afternoon you commented on <Pono-Carlsen>, which was the first game of the third day, and the second round Pono also fileted Anand, the clear No. 1 and 2 of the Ch-ship. The aura you speak of was certainly noticeable after that initial loss, when Grischuk self destructed a couple rounds onward and from there Carlsen pulverized one after the other, just one or two elbows left and right, and the victims were on the ropes before the first bell.

I was looking for a more suitable and graphic metaphor, but this is all that was left in the tank for now.

Domdaniel: <Red> So true. And being subversive leads to rendition, night flights, waterboarding, and indefinite incarceration without appeal.

All for originality. Next time round I'll try being *exactly the same* and see where that gets me.

Subversive normality, I imagine.

Anyway, I'm due for reincarnation as a gerbil next time. They're pretty bourgeois, for rodents.

<jessicafischerqueen> I have no idea who you are, but you're a dirty liar. First of all, Natalia has NEVER said that phrase. In fact, she doesn't even know what "feel up" is. That is, you have made some false accusations up and are calling them "direct quote".

Secondly, <kingscrusher> was kind enough to offer his assistance to Natalia himself. That's a gentleman's gesture, and it has nothing to do with your silly insinuations.

Thirdly, I'd like to ask who you are to judge the strength of a 2501-rated top women player? Your diminishing phrase about "most players...are of considerably more strenth than Pogonina" looks ridiculous. Even if you yourself had been not a patzer, but 2800-rated, you would never have said such crap about a grandmaster.

P.S. I know I'm just probably feeding a dumb troll, but whatever.

is a straightforward process.
It's easy enough
when you know what to do.
You simply combine
in appropriate doses
the blatantly false
and the patently true.

From the vast store of silly, but poignant <grooks>, by the ever-dazzling Danish polymath, Piet Hein. As a chessic side note, <Gruk> is the handle of Norwegian GM and former coach of Magnus Carlsen, Simen Agdestein, on ICC.

Domdaniel: <MR Zhdanov> I'm not sure I know what 'feel up' is myself, but never mind. I'd be obliged if you took your brand of rabid partisanship elsewhere: I don't like loudmouth fanboys who use phrases like 'dirty liar'. Ironically, you talk about feeding trolls, yet your kneejerk reaction here has all the traits of an old-fashioned flame war. Not here, tovarich.

This venerable old forum - to which Jessica has contributed 13 million times, with zest and humour and the touch of madness that distinguishes the truly sane - has a policy of not banning people. So kindly do it yourself. Siberia is nice this time of year.

To be fair, my post was rude and hyperbolic- I also relied on memory rather than going back to the original message board where I saw the posts.

It's my own fault for screaming at people I don't know on the internet.

I may put myself under the care of <Dr. Euwe> to deal with this problem. He has a good ear for this kind of thing.

Domdaniel: <Jess> Peter ZH, it seems, is Pogo's 'manager'. I've dealt before with the fallacy that 'X cannot be commented on by non-X' - as in 'who are you to talk about a 2501 player' - the same logic would disqualify Pogo from commenting on 2700 players.

I must talk to you about Canada, though. My favorite country seems to have been replaced by its evil twin.

jessicafischerqueen: What are they up to now? Did they throw all the poor people onto the street in winter to make room for tourists?

Again?

Bloody Olympics.

Or has Stephen Harper prorogued Parliament?

Again?

Just a year ago he did that when he was about to fall to a vote of non-confidence in the house.

They call that a "coup d'etat" in other countries.

I haven't any news from Canada.

I wouldn't put anything past them though.

Thanks for the kind words and support <Dom>

Unfortunately, as <Niels> was alert to point out, I canceled out any actual point I was trying to make by making it in such a flagrantly insulting and exaggerated fashion.

Again.

Dec-02-09  hms123: <jess> I think you gave fair comment. Also, I think it is patronizing of PZh to feel the need to protect his poor little charge from big mean old jess.
