 | | Domdaniel: <A> -- <
Your media has a funny way with adjectives>
Eh? As in 'hot' meaning 'cold'? 'Dry' meaning 'wet'? That sort of thing?? |
|
Jul-15-13
 | | Annie K.: Yep, exactly. :) |
|
Jul-15-13
 | | Domdaniel: Did I say 'Schloss'? I musta been dreaming of castling ... I meant 'Stross', of course. Charlie Stross ... verbose but very bright. <Distant red neon shimmering in the night ... too hot to sleep ... why do you always end up at Nick's cafe? ... that voodoo stuff don't do nothing for me ... > |
|
Jul-15-13
 | | Annie K.: <why do you always end up at Nick's cafe?> Because he doesn't know the right places to hang out online, obviously. :p |

 | | Domdaniel: Trolltunga, aka The Troll's Tongue, is a rock formation in Norway, sticking out 700m above a fjord. People apparently like to jump up and down on it: https://www.google.ie/search?q=trol... Leap on a troll's tongue today! |

 | | Domdaniel: And here's a pic from the Magnus Barelegs Viking Festival -- as you might expect, nobody actually has bare legs: one needs an advanced degree in vikingology for that, or alternatively a Fide rating of 2875 ...

 | | Domdaniel: The Viking in question was also known as "styrjaldar-Magnus", or strife-loving Magnus. The 'barelegs' nickname was attached to him because he seemingly adopted the Irish form of dress: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnus... |

 | | Domdaniel: "I am an old scholar, better-looking now than when I was young. That's what twenty years sitting on your ass does to your face."
- L. Cohen |
|
Jul-17-13
 | | Annie K.: True, dat. :) No, srsly. I generally find older people better looking than young ones, and there's a reason for that. What the youths (of both genders) have, for the most part, is simple, physical, youthful prettiness. But it has always impressed me as a bit vacuous. To my taste, real beauty is a reflection of inner character, the strength and serenity that come from self-(and other)-knowledge and maturity (hopefully, though not always...) ;s - that the kids simply haven't had the time to develop yet. Cohen, of course, is a fine observer of the human condition, and a pleasure to listen to. :) |

 | | Annie K.: Heh. What's with the Viking preoccupation, anyways? Preparing for the approaching coronation and reign of King Magnus I. over the realm of Caissa? :) |

Jul-18-13
 | | Annie K.: Hmm, popular word, eh? Fairly good usage there, akshly. Yeah, lemme put it this way: when an Israeli says 'I'm from the UN' (which, at the time this line was introduced - by the Gashashim, I believe, a very popular Israeli comedian group - was perceived to be mostly European-run, at least in matters pertaining to Israel), they mean 'count me out'. Nuff said? :s |

Absolutely.
Aha. So you're spot-checking Wikipedia then. ;) |

 | | WCC Editing Project: As GHOD is my witness, when I read your post over at the <Biographer's Biscuit> I thought you had written "<Jess> Thank you. The story of the Nimzo Prince is very interesting." My first thought was
"I hadn't realized that <St. Francis of Assissi d'Xylophone> was also a chess player." Who knew? |
|
Jul-23-13
 | | Domdaniel: Dear <WCC Editing Project> ... how did you manage to snag GHOD as your witness? My understanding was that He/She was booked up several decades in advance, even for light witnessing duties. - Vice-Pope Dom,
Harvey's Bristol Witnesses. |
|
Jul-23-13
 | | Annie K.: I just need to add here that ever since that Kramnik-Topalov business in Elista, I could never be sure what the WC in that WCC acronym really stands for... :p BTW, <Jess>, you really gotta stop this, your sock drawers are taking up all the space in my favorites list! ;s |

 | | Domdaniel: There are good socks and bad socks ... or, perhaps, clean socks and dirty socks. And white sox, whatever that means. |
