I live in Stredokluky (a village near Prague, Czech republic). I play both practical and correspondence chess. My rating in practical chess (Czech national ELO) oscillates somewhere between 2010 and 2060, in correspondence chess I have rating 2155 (my best was 2220 in the middle of 90's). I have no special favorite player but I like to view good games of old masters (Tarrasch, Schlechter, Chigorin etc.)

   Dec-29-25 K Tsarouhas vs X Mastalerz, 2016 (replies)

Honza Cervenka: <goodevans><I reckon Black actually played <58...Rf4?>> It looks quite plausible. And the continuation making most sense could be 58...Rf4 59.h7 Kg7 60.h8=Q+ Kxh8 61.Kg6 Kg8 62.c6 Rf2 63.c7 Rg2+ 64.Kf6 Rc2 65.Rxa2 Rc6+ 66.Kg5 Rxc7 etc. In this line 61.Kg6 ...

   Dec-27-25 Schlechter vs J Bendiner, 1893 (replies)

Honza Cervenka: This is one of those mating attacks, which is played by itself. Instead of 23.Rxh5 I was considering more prosaic 23.e6 Qf8 24.Qe4, which practically forces 24...Qf5 25.Qxf5 Nxf5 26.Bxf5 with decisive advantage of white but Schlechter's solution led to a forced mate.

   Dec-18-25 Jansa vs Suetin, 1974

Honza Cervenka: 23.Qd1 with intention 23...Rac8 24.Ne4 would have been better. In the game 24.Ne4 allows 24...Nxe4! with idea 25.Bxd8 Rc1+ 26.Rf1 Nf2+ 27.Kg1 Nxd3+ 28.Bxb6 Kf8 ⩱

   Dec-18-25 Jansa vs Smyslov, 1974

Honza Cervenka: 21.h4 and double trade on f5 led to deadly attack of black. 21.c4 followed by 22.Ra3 was the best way to meet Smyslov's planned 21...f5.

   Dec-15-25 Velimirovic vs G Tringov, 1971

Honza Cervenka: Quite sad end for black Rook.

   Dec-04-25 P Szakolczai vs M Donko, 1990

Honza Cervenka: I guess that the result should be rather 1-0 here. At least, 32.Rc2+ Kb7 33.Rxd5 Rxd5 34.Rc7+ Ka8 35.Bxe4 leads to a forced mate, for example 35...Re8 36.Rc8+ Rxc8 37.Bxd5+ Rc6 38.Bxc6#.

   Dec-04-25 E Gereben vs O Troianescu, 1952

Honza Cervenka: If 19...h5(?), then 20.Ngf6+! +-

   Dec-02-25 A Barnsley vs M Reijnen, 1997

Honza Cervenka: If 34...Rg7, then 35.Nd6 Kg8 36.Qe6+ Kf8 37.Nf5 Rf7 38.Qd6+ Ke8 39.Qd5 with double threat Qxa8 and Nd6+. 34...Kf7 35.Qh7+ Rg7 36.Nd6+ Kf8 37.Qh6 leads to the same final.

   Dec-01-25 Praggnanandhaa vs E Gasanov, 2025

Honza Cervenka: 16...Ng5 was not a good idea. 16...Nh5 would have been better.

   Nov-25-25 A Sherzer vs A Golikov, 1989

Honza Cervenka: 8...Ne5 is a dubious idea. 13...exf5 loses quickly after 14.Nd5 Qb8 15.Bb6 Nc6 16.Nc7+ etc.

jessicafischerqueen: Don't use proxies from White Plains, New Jersey.

My proxy software uses IPs from that district exclusively and the HAVANTA website "got wise" to it somehow.

It will still let me vote once an hour with my true Korean IP address, but it will no longer register votes from White Plains New Jersey IP addresses.

I got a few dozen extra votes in before it stopped counting them though.

We can't stop now they caught up 40 points today and they might have a surprise team of Star Wars fanatics lined up for the final few hours.

NO STOPPING NOW

jessicafischerqueen: <Deffi n' Joe> you are computer geniuses because I just voted 4:55 Korean time and ANETA is over a 100 votes ahead again

jessicafischerqueen: Brilliant! but don't let up we have to keep voting even after the contest closes.

Just in case.

Mar-26-10  Pyke: Well, about two and a half hours to go

1352 to 1242 votes

I am very relieved - as things were tight last night - but somehow I do not trust this thing yet ...

So keep voting!

Honza Cervenka: Oh, it was very long and very difficult night. I spent it by canvassing of new last-minute voters and urging old ones to be awake and vote all the night. Now it seems to be that we managed to fend off and countered decisively last night's surprising surge of Michael's supporters. Still be alert for remaining time!

OhioChessFan: It looks like the late charge has been repulsed. I just crawled out of bed after a very late night of basketball, two overtimes, oy vey, and cast vote #1400.
Mar-26-10  zanshin: <Another resource: use any of a number of anonymous web proxies (google for "anonymous browsing").>

Thanks for the tip <MAJ> - I will have to remember that!

1410 to 1266. If I'm right, there's just 10 minutes to go. That should do it.

Mar-26-10  Boomie: ->

Honza Cervenka: Paraphrasing Frodo Baggins I can say now: THE CAKE IS MINE!:-D

Many thanks to all of you! Without your dedicated support we would have no chance to succeed.:-D

Mar-26-10  RonB52734: Hi <Honza>. I saw your message on thrajin's forum several days ago and cast several votes. Congratulations and best wishes to you and your family!
Mar-26-10  dakgootje: <whiteshark: A good team effort>

Beating the likes of Arno Nickel is nothing compared to winning a prettiest-baby competition.

Mar-26-10  benjinathan: Now enjoy your baby!
Mar-26-10  zanshin: Congratulations <Honza> and to your wife (Janina?). Current and probably final count is 1415 - 1269.

Congrats also to Michael's group - they were worthy adversaries (but they were messing with <CG> ;-))

Mar-26-10  chesstoplay: Congrats < Honza > to you, your wife...

and your winner of a daughter, Aneta!!

I lost track of which computer I voted from and how many times I voted, but it was FUN.

Let us know what kind of cake you end up getting!

Mar-26-10  dzechiel: Congratulations! It looks like there was a last minute push to ensure the victory! I will take credit for about a dozen of the votes, but I think the chessgames.com crew really rallied behind your cause.
