 | | MissScarlett: <Does this automatically add an official "game type Correspondence" designation to the uploaded pgn when it is published?> I'm not sure, but I think so. The games I submit are invariably classical, which serves I believe as the default designation. As you're, no doubt, aware, when a game is uploaded, the game type is initially unassigned, but within a short period, it reverts to the default designation. That is unless, and here is where I enter the realm of supposition, the system has an algorithm which checks the Event/Site tags for strings such as <blind> <simul>, <corr>, <rapid>, etc. and it uses these to assign the relevant game type. So I suggest you test my theory and see if, within, say, 12 hours, your submitted correspondence game carries the correct designation. The good news is that if it doesn't you can, of course, rectify the issue. On the correction slip page, there's a pull down menu labelled <Change Event>. Just choose the one you need, remember to <Update Game> and it should be done. |

<MissScarlett>
Thank you for such useful information.
I have some ancient blitz games and 30/30 games I want to upload from <John Hilbert's> "Essays in American Chess History" but I don't want to cock it up eh... |

 | | saffuna: I Swan vs I Hera, 2012 The pun writes itself. I submitted it months ago. |
|
May-04-22 | | Teyss: Following your invitation Steinitz vs C Newman, 1882 (kibitz #30). My humour is generally dubious but I was unexpectedly inspired with Tal vs Miles, 1983 (The woods are lovely, dark and deep), Tal vs Quinteros, 1987 (2 + 2 = Five) and Q Johnson vs N Cummings, 1997 (Bishop - Rook EXchange, Isolani, Tactics). If you can understand them, that is. And for the road Sax vs Sveshnikov, 1977 (Careful with That Sax, Eugene). The rest is crap. |
|
May-04-22
 | | MissScarlett: <(The woods are lovely, dark and deep)> Don't understand.
<(2 + 2 = Five)> Ditto unless it's a general reference to Tal magic. <Bishop - Rook EXchange, Isolani, Tactics> Not a pun.
< (Careful with That Sax, Eugene)> It had come to my attention. |

 | | saffuna: But you don't know how <Hera> and <Swan> are related. The great, superior, cultured <missscarlett> doesn't know. I don't understand many of the puns either, but I look them up and am plesed to find out why many of them work. |
|
May-04-22 | | Teyss: <Don't understand.>
"The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
..." Also see below.
<Ditto unless it's a general reference to Tal magic.> 🤦♂️
"You must take your opponent into a deep dark forest where 2+2=5" said by... guess who. Also look at the player's name and number of moves. <Not a pun.> 🤦♂️
Look at the capitals and the players' names.
That's what I though, too cultural and subtle for you. Will stick to "Playing for the Throne" type. |
|
May-04-22 | | Teyss: <saffuna> Looked at your submission in the list, "Hera's Revenge" is excellent but probably too subtle for Missy. For her defence, it is a partly hidden reference. |
|
May-04-22
 | | saffuna: <For her defence, it is a partly hidden reference.> But that's the point of many of the better puns. And, where do I find that list? |
|
May-04-22 | | Teyss: <saffuna: But that's the point of many of the better puns.> Agreed but apparently not for Her Majesty. <And, where do I find that list?> https://www.chessgames.com/perl/sho... Courtesy of Her Highness. Now we have to be fair to Missy, she has hundreds of puns to review whilst we just enjoy/bash one per day, having all the time to appreciate/criticise its humour/inanity, hence in her haste she could be missing half-hidden gems. |

 | | An Englishman: Good Evening: <Miss Scarlett>, thanks for writing! Chose "Wonn" over "Won" because like "Kann" it has a double-n. |
