<Jean Defuse>
Most generous of you to make the Kingston book available to us all- I downloaded it now.
I think we should publish the game, but our software will not allow an upload without filling out the "year" field. Therefore, we will need to guess the date in order to publish. This is not the first time this issue has arisen- I believe that some have suggested we be able to enter an "approximate" modifier to the date field, or even enter something like "year unknown." <MissScarlett> did not you suggest something similar to this in the recent past? |

 | | MissScarlett: Doesn't ring any bells, but if the score comes from <Lasker's Chess Magazine> which ran from 1904-1909, 1908 suggests itself as the main candidate, because that was the only year in that period in which Lasker was in the UK - for any length of time, at least. They even met around the time of the Hastings chess festival. J H Blackburne / H F Cheshire vs Em Lasker / A C Jenour, 1908 |

<MissScarlett> I can't see any documentation from <Kingston> on where the score came from, but that's an important clue you give surely? I'm going to download the <EPUB> version of the Kingston book now, since my PDF copy is not showing any page numbers for some reason. I wonder what else it's not showing- could be a formatting issue. I did notice a <Znosko-Borovsky vs Alapin> game in the book that we don't have- also listed as "date unknown". I will be back after more investigating. |

<MissScarlett> I have some copies of Lasker's Chess Magazine in my library, though not a full run. I will also look in there eh. |

 | | FSR: <Jean Defuse> You realize that that site is stealing Taylor Kingston's intellectual property, in violation of copyright law, right? That is a crime. Chessgames should take down those links immediately. If you are the one who put that material on mediafire, you should remove it immediately. There are very serious criminal and civil penalties for violating copyright law. |
|
Aug-30-21
 | | FSR: <MissScarlett> Please remove the comment by <Jean Defuse> that posted links enabling a download of Taylor Kingston's book on Lasker. Mr. Kingston has advised me that he did not authorize this use of his intellectual property, which is thus a violation of copyright law. (I am posting this as a favor to Mr. Kingston. I am not his attorney.) |

Yikes.
Everyone should agree with FSR: Take down all links right off, reflect and learn. Support chess publishers and excellent authors like Taylor Kingston by gifting a paid copy e.g. 'Edgard Colle – Caissa's Wounded Warrior' from https://www.russell-enterprises.com... to your friends instead. |

 | | fredthebear: To MissScarlett:
Your recent post read:
<Sep-13-21 Kibitzer's Café
MissScarlett: <Hazz>, there are some posters here, most notably User: fredthebear who have accused you of almost singlehandedly ruining the site, so however much I will lament your passing ...> MissScarlett -- your statement completely misses the point of my concerns with this sight. The ADMINISTRATION's ACCEPTANCE OF INDECENCY (as if amused by it), the allowance of cyber bullies, the mass infusion of politics more so than chess -- are just some of the problems. Daily political posts are double that of chess posts on this sight. So many quality "chess first" users have left (look at posts from 2006-2016 and compare with todays meager responses); others have gone into hibernation, non-participation. Our public decorum is missing. Has there been a chess game page that has had 15-20+ pages of kibitz in the past few years? Those glory days of chess kibitzing interest are gone. What's more, YOU, as an editor, failed to address harry's vulgar response to your inciteful post. Harry blasted me (his excretions are the norm and have no impact on regulars), and it did not phase you. You wrongly provoked him into an obscene response that should have resulted in another suspension. He makes little effort to follow the posting guidelines; simply doesn't have to. We must have boundaries to free speech in a public setting, or the site loses the public consumer, leaving the last of the mean-spirits behind. Now harry complains "this place is dead" without accepting responsibility for driving people out of the Kibitzer Cafe, which he says he "owns." One-by-one, the high class chess player continues to leave this site for good. Harry is not my enemy; he is his own worst enemy. I have lost faith in the ADMINISTRATION to do the right thing, but I'll speak up for change through next year. Some of my favorite chess people still remain on this site, so I carry on. My site concerns are well-documented without editors "singlehandedly" dropping my name to incite others. Please observe our posting guidelines:
No obscene, racist, sexist, or profane language. No spamming, advertising, duplicate, or gibberish posts. No vitriolic or systematic personal attacks against other members. Nothing in violation of United States law.
No cyberstalking or malicious posting of negative or private information (doxing/doxxing) of members. No trolling.
The use of "sock puppet" accounts to circumvent disciplinary action taken by moderators, create a false impression of consensus or support, or stage conversations, is prohibited. Please try to maintain a semblance of civility at all times. |

Dec-21-21 | | Teyss: M Apicella vs K Dragun, 2009 (kibitz #6)
Done although you'll think most of them fit in the "however terrible" category. Merry xmas. |

 | | MissScarlett: To your credit, yours were the only response to my plea. To your detriment, the puns themselves. |
|
Dec-22-21 | | Teyss: Apologies for misunderstanding the instructions, I thought "however terrible" = "make them as terrible as possible."
I should have included references to comic operas. |

Dec-22-21
 | | MissScarlett: What is a <White Reindeer Gift>? Come up with something feasible and I might use it. |
|
Dec-23-21 | | Teyss: OK, OK, might have been fast on some of them, will redo today.
Like your puns are perfect.
Oops, not a good idea to make fun of the jury. |

<MissScarlett>
I wonder if you know some information I currently don't know. I want to upload a correspondence game, and in the past I have merely put "Corr" in the Event Tag. Does this automatically add an official "game type Correspondence" designation to the uploaded pgn when it is published? Or do I have to do another step? If you know about this, please let me know how to make sure the game will have an official Correspondence designation? |
