 | | harrylime: yo <MissScarlett> You don't use your forum but whatever....
I watched the Ealing movie "Whisky Galore" this week ... Did a bit of research.. ok 2 mins lol ... and discovered it was made on the Isle of Barra ... I went on Google street view and went up the street on my little lappy where Alexander Mackendrick would've been setting up his camera team ect ... I've done this before with movies and locations. It's cool to re visit and see what was being seen then and see what is being seen now. Have you seen " I know where I'm going" ?
A Powell and Prezzie movie. |
|

 | | MissScarlett: <Isle of Barra> A wild and lonely place... <Have you seen " I know where I'm going" ?> Yes, I told you I have a crush on Wendy Hiller. I think this film was produced under the auspices of the Scottish tourist board. |

 | | harrylime: Yo <scazzamungus> I checked out that movie <Sea Fury> Cy Endfield was better than this .. lol
Didn't realise he was over in Blighty coz he was blacklisted in America .. I watched it for the first third then capsized. Poor old Victor McLaglen being cast as an old washed out letch .. Some posters in this place sure .. but not Victor McLaglen .. This guy enrolled for the Boer war as a teenager .. fought in the First .. Fought Jack Johnson .. Fought John Wayne ... For Victor to end up in a film like this made my heart sink ... He was dead a year later .. on my Birthday.
Another actor in this pile of garbage , David Oxley, was born on my birthday ... Spookey huh ?
Shaw and Baker look like they're about to take on the world .. This movie should be consigned to the darkest deepest depths of the Med tho .. Hell Drivers faffs all over this . |
|
May-15-17
 | | harrylime: And yeah ok not the last post from me on ere .. I'm entitled to change my mind tho ..
I'm entitled to do anything.
I'm entitled. |
|
May-15-17
 | | MissScarlett: <Hazz>, agreed the film was more furry than fury, but I still quite enjoyed it. A few years before, Baker played the baddie sailor role in <Hell Below Zero>. Give me your top 10 nautical films. |
|
May-17-17
 | | harrylime: Yo <SCAZZASHIPWRECK> ! lol
My top ten "nautical " films ..
Hmmmmmm !
Now Ere's a challenge ..
Do I need scurvy or a bottle of Rum to make this list Captain <Scazzo> ?! Hmmmm ok .....
Number one .. <The Sea Hawk> Has Ower Errol ever been so dashing and charismatic ? Has England ever seemed so mystical and enchanting ? Has Claude Rains ever seemed so sinister .. well yeah ok Casablanca was just around the corner so I'll concede on this .. lol And Michael Curtiz ! ...
The movie explodes with 2nd world war analogies .. Battle of Britain.. Spitfires.. parachuting regiments .. Germans... All are in this Elizabethan swashbuckler ...It was made in 1940 ! lol But more than this; It possess' a magic and charm which will NEVER be captured again in cinema. So <The Sea Hawk> is my NUMBER ONE .. |
|
May-17-17
 | | MissScarlett: Good stuff, <Hazz>. You should be flying the flag over at https://moviechat.org/ where the defunct IMDb forums have reared their ugly heads again.... |
|
May-17-17
 | | harrylime: You asked for a top ten ..
That was just number one ! lol lol |
|
May-19-17
 | | harrylime: NUMBER TWO..
<Das Boot>
Anyone who wants to get off in thinking they are being buried alive and suffocated with a group of strange men should watch this movie ! lol lol I played around in a German Bomb crater as a kid .. it had mutated into a nature reserve with trees surrounding it and water and fish and aquatic life wallowing in it .. I just hope Angela Merkel is aware of this .. lol |
|
May-19-17
 | | OhioChessFan: Das Boot is a must see. I guess it's the German thing, but many people have not heard of it, much less seen it. |
|
| May-19-17 | | technical draw: <OCF> . I've seen Das Boot in German and didn't think to much about it. I was told it was a great film so I expected more. It was a let down. |
|
| May-19-17 | | technical draw: Wait a minute! This is <MissScarlett>'s forum. I don't think I've ever posted here. Anyway, greetings Miss. I hope all is fine with you. Signed, TD. |

May-31-17
 | | harrylime: Yo <SCAZZO> ! Ok I'm taking ages re our nautical adventure together .. my apologies. I've been too busy losing whatever respect and credibility I had left on this site in the good ole cafe lol lol .. My bad .. Anyways captain Scarlett, back to this beautiful blue list of mine, shimmering in the deep chessgames forums seas.... NUMBER THREE !
<The Enemy Below> Ofcourse I would try to squeeze my beloved Robert in here somewhere .. you knew that didn't you? So here he is. Involved in a high seas WWII game of chess with Curt Jurgens; each the equal of each other , each cancelling each other out , each worshipped by their crews and each eventually falling in love over mutual military respect and regard... I've not seen it for ages so can't go into any more details.. I think it's the first time I came into contact with Mitch on the big screen as a kid.. .. it seemed he could chase out the Nazis on his own such was his aura lol lol NUMBER FOUR
<The Caine Mutiny> Again not seen this for ages, but Bogies' portrayal of a sea captain having a breakdown in front of his crew left an indelible impression on me .. I remember at the time as a kid watching this Bogart's Captain Queeg seemed the "baddie" to me .. but now I'd probably be thinking the opposite, and his crew let him down.Mind you, some of Queegs' antics, regarding investigations in to strawberries in pots ect .. do remind me of some folk on this site lol Bogart involved in a movie on the high seas was a rare thing in the movies I think, tho I've not really checked this out. So it's fitting he's at my number four. |
