MissScarlett: Yes, that's plausible, and, if so, it makes the sacrifice less than <very generous>. Still, I'm not complaining.

MissScarlett: How about The Kibitzer's Café? Just one more question - how long was the outstanding <JH subs>? I received 13 months' worth of premium membership - I have to consider the possibility that I benefited from more than one donation.

A JH Sub is a member of the band that were rivals of the UK Subs.

offramp: I like many of the puns you have suggested.

Unfortunately, and God knows why, cg.com is only accepting puns from one source at the moment.

His puns are of the most obvious, knee-jerk reaction type. It is like a recovering stroke victim being given a word association test:

"I want you to say the first thing that pops into your head..."
"Okay."
"Alekhine vs W Lamb, 1929."
"Sacrificial lamb."
"K Tjolsen vs S Marder, 2010?"
"Marder She Wrote."
"Capablanca vs M Fox, 1919?"
"Outfoxed."
Etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.

Dec-23-17  zanzibar: Ooh, <offramp> is steaming.

But yes, <Missy> is boxing clever on punning fun-ing.

(What's the etymology/phrasemology of "boxing clever"?)

OhioChessFan: A pun a day, for 15 years...yeah, they have to go the obvious route a lot.

  offramp: <zanzibar: Ooh, <offramp> is steaming>

You have correctly gauged my feelings. I've got a list of 110 puns that will never be used because hoi polloi would never ever vote for them.

The puns are too clever. BUT when I say clever I mean totally dimwitted but 100% better than the rubbish we've been seeing.

OhioChessFan: I just leave my ideas as Easter Eggs all over the site. Once or twice cg.c has stumbled upon them and used them.
Dec-24-17  zanzibar: <offramp> - I think perhaps the pun should be a user selectable option, so that one could at least have the option of turning them off.

Oh well, I always think <CG> spans the spectrum - from the sublime to the absurd.
