Jan-16-13 | | TheFocus: I vote for <All Bistro Biographers collectively> for Best Historian. (With a special salute to <Phony Benoni> as the Best of the Best.) I vote for <Control-Ault-Delete> for Best (Worse) Pun. |
|
Jan-16-13 | | parmetd: Vote for <Gata catch em all> for best pun. |
|
Jan-16-13 | | gauer: Vote <Phony Benoni> for best historian and <The Parent Trap> for best pun. |
|
Jan-16-13
 | | HeMateMe: I don't understand the "Bishop takes Pawn" pun. If it's a Yakoff Smirnoff take off, then you would need opposites: "Man arrests Cop", "man bites dog", etc. |

 | | Sneaky: HeMateMe, I agree with you about the Soviet Russia pun, although it still makes me laugh. The problem with "Vas Right Wing Conspiracy"--as funny as it is--is that Hillary Clinton is ancient history. (Well, ancient at least.) And so, my vote for best pun goes to <Gata Catch 'em All>. (For those who don't get it, it's a Pokemon joke. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVp-...) Best historian has to be <All Bistro Biographers collectively>, I don't want to pick favorites. |

Jan-16-13
 | | HeMateMe: I liked them all. I wish there had been more puns nominated. |

Jan-16-13
 | | FSR: I vote for <Graham Clayton> for Best Historian. I vote for <Zapoleon Blown Apart> for Best (Worst) Pun. Sheer genius, though Mira/Houska is also great. |
|
Jan-17-13
 | | HeMateMe: Split vote, chessplayer of the year, <Fabiano Caruana> and < Vishy Anand > Fabio had a breakout year, earned a spot at the table with the big boys. He's here at TaTa. Anand sucessfully defended his title, winning the match with Gelfand. |

 | | FSR: Player of the Year: <Magnus Carlsen>. 2861. Duh. |
|
Jan-17-13 | | Abdel Irada: <mightor: <Abdel Irada: I know there are one or two choices that make *me* wonder.> Are you referring to <Southpaw> who won in the category you nominated yourself for?> Sorry to ruin your spiteful shot, but does that make any sense given that I co-nominated and voted for <Softpaw> myself? In my mind, there is no question that <Softpaw> merited that award. You need merely read his hundreds of posts on the <Kenneth Rogoff> pages, on any of a dozen different subjects, to see exactly what I mean. Across a spectrum of contentious debate on one controversial issue after another, from Israel/Palestine to GMO food labeling, in the face of sustained provocation, <Softpaw> kept his temper, meeting demagoguery, derision and deceit with reasoned argument meticulously supported by fact and documentary evidence painstakingly selected from the most credible and authoritative possible sources. He is a perfect example of precisely the kind of citizen-journalist who gives the lie to "professional" elitism, and whom I'd be proud to have as a contributing writer on my own site. |

 | | The Caissars: The envelope please...
The winner of Best Historian goes to <All Bistro Biographers Collectively>. Go visit the Biographer Bistro and congratulations on their second Caissar of the year. The winner of best/worst pun is <Control-Ault-Delete> (Fischer vs R Ault, 1959). Congratulations to User: FSR for coming up with the pun and submitting it. Voting is now open for the "Player of the Year". I want to remind you that this is not necessarily the best player, it could be the nicest player, the best up-and-comer, the greatest chess benefactor--it can be whatever you want it to be. As usual put your choices in <Fancy Colored Text> if you would, thanks. |

 | | FSR: <The Caissars: ... The winner of best/worst pun is <Control-Ault-Delete> (Fischer vs R Ault, 1959). Congratulations to User: FSR for coming up with the pun and submitting it.> Thanks, everyone. <Phony Benoni>'s <Zapoleon Blown Apart> (for which I, and only I, voted) and <Mira, Mira on the Wall, Houska Fairest of Them All> (which I nominated) were far worthier IMO. But the people have spoken. |

Jan-17-13
 | | WannaBe: I vote <M. Carlsen>, since there is only one category today... |

Jan-17-13
 | | WannaBe: On be-quarter of the Bistro (since I do post there once in a while) I want to thank my agent, my mother, my pet Pekingnese, my parro D@ng that orchestra!@!@ |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: I vote for <Magnus Carlsen> Player of the Year. |
|
Jan-17-13 | | Abdel Irada: My vote:
•<Monica Socko> as "Player of the Year" for her shocking upset of the dominant Yifan Hou, which reopens women's chess as a competitive field, perhaps encouraging more women to take part in the game. |
|
Jan-17-13 | | frogbert: a bit late, since i essentially was off site more or less all of yesterday, but: thanks for the 5.5 votes i counted for myself for <most informed>! there might have been more votes since i won't see votes cast by people on my ignore list, but chances are admittedly higher that some of those on that list instead voted for the worthy winner <softpaw>! :o) ps! i still think posting the official vote counts would be a good idea. so far we've seen inconsistency in this area: some categories have had winning vote counts posted, others have not. a case for transparency international? ;o) |
|
Jan-17-13 | | achieve: I'd like to break an egg, and <vote>, for <Fabiano Caruana> as Player of the Year, the young Italian moving up the ranking from place 17, into the top 5, gaining a whopping 45 rating points in twelve months in the process. |
|
Jan-17-13
 | | Check It Out: <FSR> Whoops, I nominated <Zapoleon blown Apart> and forgot to vote for it. A great pun! |

 | | LoveThatJoker: I vote for <Magnus Carlsen> for Player of the Year. LTJ
PS. Honourable mention to WC Kramnik! |

|
Jan-17-13 | | achieve: Re: <Softpaw>'s Caissar Has Softpaw perchance been "informed" of his victory via email, by the organizer(s) of these awards? Would be kinda ironic to if we wouldn't "inform" the most ........ ;) In other words, if you haven't, I would be willing and able to send him an email, but perhaps it's more apt if you do. Please let me know. |
|
Jan-17-13 | | Abdel Irada: <achieve>: I tried to inform him, but I think I'm using an old email address; he cautioned me that he doesn't check it often in any case. Could you pass on any working email to me? I don't want to post my email, or have you post his, here where spammers can find it, so please contact me via my site: http://www.moralintelligence.net/co... |
|
Jan-17-13 | | achieve: <Abdel> I'm afraid the address I have is over a year old, but even so I will contact you and send it via your site. Will take a bit of time, as I can't recall the first part of his then-address, so will have to "turn back the pages." |
