 | | WannaBe: Thank you for doing another year of Caissars, and everyone pretty much behaved themselves. =) Very minor gripe, in the profile section, with the list of nominees. Some winners are listed as link, others are just <>, can this be 'unified'? |
|
Jan-19-15 | | technical draw: And congratulations to <WannaBe> for a well deserved "Most Helpful". |
|
Jan-19-15
 | | WannaBe: <technical draw> I'm still not helping you with that 20.00$ loan. |
|
Jan-19-15 | | chesstoplay: < < 12. BEST (WORST) PUN OF THE YEAR > And the winner is ... <Suffering from c6-ness> > Carolyn Wells, an author and poet who died in 1942, said, "A blunder at the right moment
is better than cleverness at the wrong time."

Jan-19-15 | | technical draw: <WannaBe: <technical draw> I'm still not helping you with that 20.00$ loan.> I guess groveling won't work either. |

 | | Domdaniel: <jeshika piscine dominatrix> Hey, aren't you supposed to be off slaving somewhere? No fair. I *know* you're smarter'n me, but d'you havta advertise it? "Whoever is filthy, let him be filthy still..."

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
I am indeed slaving, my dear <Dom>. I was up to 3 AM last night putting together lesson materials. It's going to be a heavy slog, much like the road to Fort Zinderneuf, unless Beau Geste has lied to me... My father forced me to watch Beau Geste (in black and white!) on TV with him. I only agreed because then I would get to stay up late. I'd say my Father wanted a boy, except he already had a boy- my big brother. But it was me who seemed to shine most to my father's interests, which were limited to chess, World War II history, and foul language. My brother was, and still is, interested only in climbing dangerous mountains, kayaking dangerous rapids, hunting, and fishing. He still goes hunting every single November, much like a William Faulkner character. Strangely, however, though a voracious reader, he never did like Faulkner. "Doesn't he know any adjectives other than the word 'moribund'?" he once demanded. I couldn't think of a good answer. Some months ago I was playing an audio book recording of "The Sound and the Fury" every night as a sleep aid. Once when our family was going through a lot of fighting, my father taped an article about THE 900 DAYS on to the refrigerator, to remind us that people had tougher sledding than us during the Siege of Leningrad. Good grief. |

 | | Domdaniel: <Jesh> I am also knackered, my dyuh, not to mention clapped out. I was playing chess all weekend. Will I ever learn? Learn not to be such a masochist, that is. I already learned chess, in a sense. I Started OK, incidentally, then lost the final two games. Anyhoo... I never actually saw Beau Geste, the movie. Good grief, Captain, I was a film critic, not a Foreign Legionnaire. But I read the book, by Percy Wren. And (blush!) I played with a toy fort full of toy legionnaires. The Arab hordes attack ... and the trick is to pretend your dead guys are still alive. Not that there's much of a difference with toy soldiers. |

 | | Domdaniel: <Jesh> - < My brother was, and still is, interested only in climbing dangerous mountains> I've got a brother like that too. Mysterious behaviour, innit? |

<Wyvill, Wyvill Rock You> Anderssen vs Wyvill, 1851 <Three Times a Lady> V Gunina vs S Sevian, 2015 I always think of Eddie Murphy playing Buckwheat and sing this song on Saturday Night Live skit. (Look it up on YouTube, you won't regret it) |
|
Jan-08-16
 | | Annie K.: I nominate <User: trulssk> for Best Avatar - check it out! :) I nominate <Brace Yourself, Winter is Coming> Botvinnik vs W Winter, 1936 for Best/Worst Pun. OK, this wouldn't be such an outstanding pun all by itself, but there's an extra story to it... On March 12, valued chess historian and general sourpuss Edward Winter published one of his nasty little digs about chessgames.com, making it yet again obvious that he checks on the site - and the very next day, I nearly fell off my chair laughing when I saw this pun. :D |
|
