| Nov-12-06 | | percyblakeney: I had 3 correct answers on test 1 and scored 23 on the second one. The Hundred Years' War I only remembered was around 120 years, and was right on 4, 6 and 10. |
| Nov-12-06 | | NakoSonorense: <percy> You meant 23 on test 1 and 5 on the second one? For the second test I got 3 and a half. I answered correctly 2, 4, and 6. I knew the Hundred Years' War lasted ~110 years, so I gave myself partial credit on that one. :) |

| Nov-12-06 | | acirce: I scored 24 on <WannaBe>'s test. Am I the smartest so far? |
| Nov-12-06 | | suenteus po 147: <WannaBe> Good luck at the American Open! |
| Nov-12-06 | | Open Defence: <scored 24 on <WannaBe>'s test. Am I the smartest so far?> no it proves that you are an expert in decadent capitalist culture.. you will now be closely monitored as you seem a likely candidate for treachery and defection to the West.... |

 | | WannaBe: <acirce> well, it's not quite 'my' test, it's just a web site that was e-mailed to me. But so far, your score is the highest of all the people here. =) <suenteus po 147> Thanks, I will do/try my best, and remember all of our end-game lessons. |
| Nov-13-06 | | arctic tern: <WannaBe>That was a fun test. I got 26. It thinks I can compete with Einstein, which is flattering, if nothing else:) I did notice at least one glaring error (in prime number question), though. |
| Nov-13-06 | | arifattar: I got 21. Said something like 20% smarter than average and something about a bear. |
| Nov-13-06 | | technical draw: I won't take this test. (or any other test) I'll just max it and no one will believe me. I know, it has happened many times before. |
| Nov-13-06 | | dakgootje: <technical draw> Very kind of you |

 | | WannaBe: <Chess Classics> Alright!! Post the PGN? Your forum? |
| Nov-13-06 | | Chess Classics: <WannaBe> It needs some...cleaning. I was talking to a friend at another board and suddenly Ashley was there and I panicked and played the first move I saw-which was a good move, come to think of it. But I missed some moves in the notation-check the Cafe soon. Regards,

| Nov-13-06 | | NakoSonorense: Hello there, Robin01. We're on the same team again. I hope this game turns out to be as exciting as the one against the Dark Horses. Wannabe, one more chance to try the Wannabe's Gambit. Are we gonna go for it? |

 | | WannaBe: Need some expert/more knowledge-able advice here...
This puzzle is from Susan Polgar's book (white to play):
click for larger viewAnd I stared at it for a good 30 minutes, before giving up (and looked at the solution). I figured the first move is Q-move, then I was stuck/flustered... What is my problem? (No, it's not beer) And does it tell me anything about my playing level (for not seeing the solution)? And how can I get/see this kind of situation (OTB or otherwise), is it just more practice? Thanks in adv. |

1.First always look for any checks.
2.Look for any captures.
3.Capture threats.
| Nov-16-06 | | Tomlinsky: <WannaBe> It's easy to miss a capture in a line that was rejected previously as immediately losing. Treat each mental scan as a new position to be verified. This is where I find playing out problems physically with board and pieces works better personally. |
