 | | WannaBe: <Chopin> Yeah, been thinking about giving up on chess, and taking up tennis. Since Andre retired, America need some new young bloods. Think I can be that guy. As long as my back don't go out, or pull my ham-string, or tweak an elbow, think I can win the Wimbledon by the year 2009. =) |
|
| Nov-26-06 | | Chopin: <Wannabe>
<Yeah, been thinking about giving up on chess, and taking up tennis.> My goal is to be a foot-fault judge at Wimbledon by 2010. |
|
| Nov-26-06 | | Open Defence: <Wannabe> if you give up chess who will defeat all those lil' ole ladies who love to play the Najdorf ? |
|
| Nov-26-06 | | dr.roho: <wannabe>
Yeah I have McAfee instaled and if it's a virus that is the problem then I am sueing McAfee! lol... |

 | | WannaBe: <Open Defence> She played a really good game, I haven't run it through software yet, but I think her queen move (24. Qf3) may not have been the best. I'll let the software chew on this game later. <dr.roho> Should have also asked, do you have all the latest updates/patches? You sound pretty sharp, so I'm thinking you do already. |
|
| Nov-26-06 | | Chopin: <Wannabe>
<Yeah, here is the evidence too... The game started at 7:30 PM, and ended at 11:45 PM> Nice win! Great game! |

I was told that if you're rated under 2000, you should always play the closed variation against the sicilian-- otherwise, you allow your opponent to play like a GM, if he's well versed. Just recently, I played the closed sicilian variation against a former 2450 ELO player; it was a friendly game. Of course I lost the game, but it was a long game-- went to an endgame. He even said that one of his hardest wins have been against the closed sicilian. Just my 2 cents (Canadian) worth of advice. Cheers

 | | WannaBe: But I love the open Sicilian, even though I have to think three if not four times as hard during the game. It's such fun position and interesting game to play! :-0 |
|
| Nov-27-06 | | Open Defence: <Chopin <<<I was told that if you're rated under 2000, you should always play the closed variation against the sicilian>>> otherwise, you allow your opponent to play like a GM, if he's well versed. > HERESY!!!! HERESY !!! HOW DARE A BELIEVER OF MORPHY EVER RECOMMEND CLOSED POSITIONS!!!!?????? |
|
| Nov-27-06 | | dakgootje: <HOW DARE A BELIEVER OF MORPHY EVER RECOMMEND CLOSED POSITIONS!!!!??????> Well thats not too hard... just try it yourself: I recommend closed positions. Cant garantee you wont run into Morphy in some random afterlife though. |

 | | WannaBe: GM Ian Rogers gave a talk on Topalov/Kramnik Unification Match (at the American Open last week), and I heard his description of the playing style of the participants. (Paraphrasing what GM Rogers said here.) <Kramnik has a subtle style, it's hard to figure out what he's doing, by the time you do, game is over.Topalov is more straight forward, you know what he's gonna do and where, but you just can't find a way to stop it.> |

 | | Phony Benoni: Personally, I can recommend 1. e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Qxd4, having beaten several strong players with it recently. Of course, it's not such a good idea against the 2...Nc6 lines. |
|
| Nov-27-06 | | Open Defence: <Wannabe> don't give up chess yet... even Kramnik has some way to go... |
|
Nov-27-06
 | | WannaBe: <Open Defence> After that Kramnik vs. Deep Fritz game, I'm right back in it. =) I can blunder as well as he can! I just can't make as many good moves as he can. |
|
| Nov-27-06 | | JDK: Great pictures <WannaBe>! If you don't get that GM title then maybe become a professional photographer! Ian Rogers always looks the same in every photo I have seen, even ten years ago! Maybe he is the aussie dracula? :) Anyway the results aren't bad at all, you got a couple of wins under your belt. |

 | | WannaBe: Once again, it's time for Book review with <WannaBe> :-) Good read, highly recommended are: <Thunderstruck>, Erik Larsen, if you don't know who Dr. Crippen was, and the personal life of Marconi, this is a must read. Takes place early 1900s. Non-Fiction. <Lisey's Story>, Stephen King, 'Nuff said. <Ghost Map>, Steven Johnson, first book by him that I've read, very impressed. This is about the outbreak of Cholera in London, then a population of 2+ million that had no public sanitation system. Non-Fiction. Coming soon books:
Clive Cussler's, <Khan's Treasure>, I love Dirk Pitt novels, also Michael Crichton's <Next>. Tomorrow is release day for both, guess where and what I'll be doing tomorrow? Coming soon...
<Hannible Rising>, Thomas Harris, December 5th. 'Nuff said. <Satan's Circus>, Mike Dash, June 2007. Love his work, another non-fiction that I'll be sure to read. |

 | | Phony Benoni: <WannaBe> You'll be glad to know that the American Open has already been rated. http://www.uschess.org/msa/XtblMain... |
|
| Nov-28-06 | | Open Defence: since you like books, some one wrote the "Wannabe guide to Golf" ... I'm sure a "Wannabe guide to Chess" could be your thing..... |
|
| Nov-28-06 | | Open Defence: <Wannabe> I think you probably don't play the Sicilian Pelikan / Sveshnikov / Chelyabinsk much... but I was wondering if you would care to run the position after 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 e5 6.Ndb5 d6 7.Bg5 a6 8.Na3
b5 9.Bxf6 gxf6 10.Nd5 f5 11.Bd3 Be6 12.O-O Bxd5 13.exd5 Ne7 14.c3 Bg7
15.Qh5 e4 16.Bc2 Qc8 in your Shredder...(the software I mean.. not the paper shredder ;-p) The results would interest me greatly....does the engine give the anti positional 17.f3 a decent evaluation ? |
|
Nov-28-06
 | | WannaBe: <Phony Benoni> Thanks! I gained 120+ points, am no longer Uber-Patzer. =) |

 | | WannaBe: <Open Defence> The move isn't all that bad, it does bring white into a slight negative territory. 17. f3 Qc5+ 18. Kh1 e3 19. f4 0-0 20. Rae1 Rfe8 = (0.02) The preferred line is: 17. Bb3 Be5 18. Nc2 f4 19. Rfe1 f5 20. Nd4 Bxd4 (0.43) |

 | | WannaBe: Looking back, after LV and LA tournament, I gained 303 pts, I just wished the playing condition in LA was better. I'd have stayed and played 3 more games, and who knows... Just have to stop making stupid blundering moves. |
|
| Nov-28-06 | | you vs yourself: <Looking back, after LV and LA tournament, I gained 303 pts..> Wow. Talk about off the charts improvement. Well done, <WannaBe>. |
|

 | | WannaBe: <you vs yourself> Mostly thanks to you, <Swapmeet>, <suenteus po 147> kicking my behind, and learning chess the hard way. Well, <DrDum>'s sparring games helps too. He's approaching 1600. And, of course, all the members here who has helped me, and who continues to help and encourage this bad chess player. =) |
