WannaBe: <hitman84> She gave me a business card (I gave her one of mine that I always carry with me), she is a senior at University up in San Francisco, (hence young! I graduated 10 years ago!)

I do see some red in her hair, I think the correct term is brunette/auburn? Yeah, could (or gonna) be a long tournament...

Nov-24-06  dakgootje: <hence young! I graduated 10 years ago!> And your worry'ing about that? =S ;-)
Nov-24-06  hitman84: <WannaBe> <I graduated 10 years ago!> Ok now I get it. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I thought you were somewhere around 20-25 years old :)
Nov-24-06  NakoSonorense: <Met a (young!) cute gal in the skittles room...> Oh, man. That's it. This time you're gonna score only 1/8. :)

Just kidding. Good luck, wannabe! Keep it up.

Nov-24-06  Open Defence: <Wannabe> beware!! she might be sent by the enemy to distract you!!!
Nov-24-06  dakgootje: <she might be sent by the enemy to distract you!!!>

Yups, so you have to decide whats more important: the girl or the games... obvious answer of course

Nov-24-06  Open Defence: *pictures <Wannabe> riding off in the sunset on a giant wooden Chess Knight with the auburn haired girl...*
Nov-24-06  suenteus po 147: <WannaBe> Great news so far. Looking forward to playing over your games when they are all completed. Nice to hear about you finding pleasing company in the skittles room. Just remember, what happens in the skittles room stays in the skittles room until the end of the tournament :)

Also, great to hear you used so much time in the second game. I predict 4.5/8 for you this year!

Nov-24-06  dr.roho: To <WannaBe>,
Hi! Been a while hasn't it? Well I know you know that you know a lot about computers. I have been having some problems with a certain program of mine on my brand new computer. It has to do with Windows Media Center. It was working just fine playing all my DVDs, CDs, etc., but all of a sudden it can't play those DVDs, CDs, etc. anymore! I can still watch videos online through it but I can no longer do the other things. It keeps telling me I have a decoder eror and I either have to restart my comp or my WMC to get it to work again. I've tried both but nothing works. If you could find a solution or give me a link to Bill Gate's phone number that would be great(I would prefer the latter). I would appreciate any response to this. Thanks!

Oh and almost forgot how did you tournament you spent some time studying for go?

WannaBe: <dr.roho> I'm guessing that rebooting didn't help? Don't know if it's virus/worm/spyware related, do you have anti- programs installed? Run a scan lately?

  WannaBe: Day 2 update,

Lost my first game with black, (Yep, the little ol' man opened 1. d4 on me.) KID, I then dropped a pawn for nothing, dropped another pawn because I stop calculating after 4-ply. (Dumb a$$)

Acutally got mated, if I had seen it, I would have resigned. (Shows you how much attention I was paying to the whole board!)

Beat up a little ol' lady in game 2, I was black (again!) and she opted for the 0-0-0 of mainline Najdorf (Bg5 followed by ...e6 line). Reached 40 moves with about 10 minutes on my clock, 3 minutes for her. A lot of deep calculation.

By then I was up 2 pawns, and then she finally resigned around move 50+. After 2 days, 0.500 +2 -2 =0, lost to the people I probably should lose to, and beat the ones I should beat.

See what happens tomorrow. Did some some pics...

WannaBe: Don't think I've been this 'uptight/wound up' before, it's past 1 AM here, and I got to be back there for 10:30 start (round 5), just opened my second beer, and I'm not sleepy...

Trying to get myself tired enough to some sleep... =(

WannaBe: Day 3 report, things did not go well, I've withdrawn from the tournament after my game (loss).

Due to the size of the participants, all the U1400, U1200, and unrated section were moved to the skittles room, (Today was the first day of play after merging the 4-day and 3-day schedule.)

Also, today is the scholastic tournament, the hall way was full of kids yakking, parents talking, so take a wild guess where the skittles room is located??

Doubtful I'll return to this tournament next year, I do miss watching all the football games over the long Thanksgiving Weekend, and the size of the tournament requires more than one chief TD and just one assistant, I love Randall, but I wish he'd get another assistant.

I've notified Chief TD Randall Hough that I've withdrawn from the tournament, +2 -3 =0.

But the good news is, pictures are uploaded (link above, in my profile). 15 pictures in all, shouldn't take that long to load (even on dial up) and shouldn't take up too much of your RAM, unlike those Vegas pictures.

I also had the pleasure of moving the pieces on the exhibition board for the game between IM David Pruess and Landon Brownell, which Pruess did win. That's probably as close as I'll ever get to the big stage. =)

WannaBe: So, after that round 4 game was over, by the time I got home, it was well past midnight, I was still pretty uptight and couldn't sleep (see earlier posts I made last night).

Got about 7 hours of sleep, went back Saturday morning, and produced this little miniature.

Be warned, playing through this game will probably cause uncontrollable laughter, possibly causing seriously bodily harm by laughing too hard.

Nov-26-06  dakgootje: I would give 16. Nf3 only '?' instead of '??'. Obviously the move isnt that brilliant, though understandable. It wasnt that much of a blunder that it cost you the game in a won position, merely a Δ 1.30 difference

I like the pictures-- looking sharp <wannabe>! Good luck in the remainder of the tournament; make <chessgames> proud-- ok maybe not. :)
