  WannaBe: <brankat> http://www.americanopen.org I'm in the U1400 section again.

Playing one-section up, I felt really comfortable in this section last time in Las Vegas. <DrDum> unfortunately, will be with family, so he is not going to be at this one.

<dakgootje> Of course. But only because you requested it. =)

WannaBe: <OhioChessFan> Just to clear any 'confusions'. The tournament is local, I'm driving home every night, so I can update my profile as needed for the GMAN game.

OhioChessFan: Ok. I am usually at work, or driving home at the time moves are made, so Twinlark usually puts a marker post to show the move made, and the variation I'm hosting. I then get home and address the profile, etc. I could do the same thing on your forum. The big thing from your end is to make sure people know that the normal usage of the forum has to be curtailed. I still have an occasional chatty post or two, especially when waiting for forced moves. But the primary focus of the forums is to provide a quick summary of the game ideas, and so I try to limit other discussion.
Nov-21-06  RonB52734: Good luck at the Open!

WannaBe: Well, I guess I'm as ready as I'll be. Got myself some trail mix (with raisins removed, YUCK!) for snacking, got meself mentally pumped, (ready for the big let-down) and it's too late to cram any more information into my little grey matters.

I'm just gonna go there and play 8 games of chess, 4 days and see if I can do better than last year (+0 -5 =3).

Get ready for the WannaBe Gambit!

Nov-23-06  suenteus po 147: <WannaBe> Best of luck. And a bit of advice: Don't think about results, don't think about ratings, don't think about the past. Treat each game as something new and fun to explore. Treat the opening like a test, treat the middlegame like a puzzle, and treat the endgame like a computer program you're writing. All will fall into place nicely :)

Nov-23-06  JDK: <Wannabe> Best of luck. Remember to have fun! Don't worry about cramming loads of opening theory in your head. Just play the position as you see fit.

Id be asking which way the horsey moves to put your opponent under false ease :-)

Nov-23-06  hitman84: Hi <WannaBe> when did you switch from snooker to 9-ball ? :)
Nov-23-06  JDK: <WannaBe : Interesting Sicilian that we have in our game.>

Yes, its called the Sicilian Alapin (Hope Subvariation), whereby I make some obvious mistakes and hope my opponent doesn't notice.

... Its working so far :-) I'm writing the annotations as I go so all will be revealed in time.

Thanks for the photo's. You and Miss Polgar make a fine couple.

WannaBe: <hitman84> I rarely play snooker, but I tend to use the generic term, billiards. Hence, it may have caused some confusion.

<JDK> Cool, looking forward to it.

<Hincho> *BLUSH* She is very lovely.

<Isolani> Bwaaahahahahaha... Thanks, that made my day!

<technical draw> Young baby (pup) like you remembers that song by Zagert and Evans? =)

WannaBe: Day 1 report (due to the poor quality of play, no PGN.)

lost my first game, it was a trompowsky (sp??). (Look, if you want beat me, just play 1. d4, or play 1...e6) To a higher rated player, blundered horribly. It was a miniature, I resigned after move 18.

I was putting up a real stiff defence, but there was a square that I absolutely can't occupy, and I kept telling myself, and I kept telling myself, and I kept telling myself, so what do I do? I moved a piece there. =(

Game 2, I won! The player was listed as unrated, I was white, and he tried the Sicilian-Dragon on me.

This kid (looks like Jr. High, or freshman high school age) played fast, when the game was done, he only used approx 30 min. while I used close to 1 hr and 15 min.

At one point, after his horrible move (drops queen) he actually asked me for a take back! Must be because we're both Asian, and he thought I'd cut him some slack. NO WAY DUDE!!

Considering I only scored 1.5/8 at this tournament last year, I'm ahead of schedule.

Took pictures, will get them on-line once I get them organized, and put my (not-so) funny side-bars on the web-page. So, probably Sunday night, or Monday. =)

Nov-24-06  hitman84: Hey good luck with the games <WannaBe>

WannaBe: <hitman84> Thanks, got 3 more days, and 6 more games to go.

Met a (young!) cute gal in the skittles room, played two 5/0 with her, lost both, may have to look her up again tomorrow. =)
