Bobby Fischer is an intense, no non-sense, hard-headed, game focused, sometimes raving, ranting, name-calling lunatic. Bobby Knight is an ... Oh, never mind. |

 | | WannaBe: Looks like USC did what it's football team can't do, that is beat Texas. =) |
Mar-19-07 | | princeofdragons: USC WILL get killed by UNC and that's the bottom line. North Carolina is WAY too deep. Although I like UCLA to win, Pitt is scaring me a bit and might be an upset. |

 | | WannaBe: On a serious note, after reading the latest issue of National Geographic, I'm not eating any Mo' fish... I've already cut out on sea cucumbers (And yes, I love them) then after reading about them in a previous issue of N.G. I have completely stopped with my sea cucumber eat'n. Now, after this article, I'm going to completely cut out my fish intake... And also my jellyfish, squid, and cuttlefish eat'n. Dried/seasoned jellyfish, squid, and cuttlefish are a delicacy in Asian culture/cuisine. But I'm willing to sacrifice... |
Mar-23-07 | | brankat: <WannaBe> After You cut all this out, what will be left there? :-) Afterall, chances are, in the next issue of N.G. You may read similar articles on vegetables, fruits, beef, pork, chicken, mutton, etc, etc. Then what? Just beer and vodka, I guess :-) Cheers! |

Mar-23-07 | | Robin01: <WannaBe>Are you going to play in the simul against Mr. Korchnoi in Vegas this summer? |
Mar-23-07
 | | WannaBe: <brankat> I just don't eat animals that's over-harvested. I haven't read any articles that beef/pork/chicken/vegetables are in danger (or endangered) yet. <Robin01> No, because Mr. Korchnoi's simul is Monday, (after Sunday's last game) of which I'll be on the road back to So. Cal. |

 | | WannaBe: Have started reading "Art of Attack in Chess" by Vukovic, will then follow it with "Modern Chess Strategy" by Pachman. These 2 books will eventually lead up to Chicago Open, which is in about 2 month. My current plan is to devote a month to each book, see how this will work out for my (future) games. =) |
Mar-23-07 | | brankat: <WannaBe> I'm not familiar with L.Pachman's book, but "Art of Attack in Chess" is a great work, a true Classic! Enjoy it. And yes, Your understanding of a number of aspects of the game will improve significantly, which in turn will give You more self-confidence, which...and so on. Btw, while studying these books, don't hurry, take Your time. Even if You manage to "finish" just one of the 2 before Chicago. |
Mar-24-07 | | Tactic101: Read Art of Attack in Chess. Very nice book. The last two chapters are VERY important. Spend some time on those. The Classic Bishop Sacrifice also deserves some time. You'll get chances to use them again and again. Here's one of my own chances: I'm white. I'm slightly better with a good knight on e5 and the open h file, but black is also quickly getting a chance to strike my king with his pawn avalanche. Find the winning sequance. White to play and win. click for larger viewSolution: Here, I played Bxh7+!! which wins. This sac is a bit unusual since black can defend h7 with his knight. However, the queen, white's e5 knight and the rooks are poised for action. If Nxh7, Qh5, Re8, Qxf7+, Kh8, Rxh7+!, Kxh7, Rh1 with mate following. And if black declines with Kh8, he is still doomed because of the discovered check Bg6+!, Kg8, Bxf7+!, Rxf7, Rh8+!, Kxh8, and Nxf7, winning the queen. Also read the chapter on the ranks, files and diagonals in the attack of the king. The chapter on Focal Points is also very instructive. Best of Luck!
