Jan-20-06  Robin01: We look okay in this line as far as I can see.
Jan-20-06  Robin01: My evaluation of this line: We are giving white the d5 square. We also give up our bishop pair. However, we gain an extra piece into play (our king's rook is in play and white has no more pieces in play than before), and have eliminated more material from the board (which is important since we are still up material). We are also putting a lot more pressure on the f file now.
Jan-20-06  Robin01: I have to get up early, so I am drifting off here...zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Jan-21-06  RonB52734: It looks ok. Let's see what happens. Sleep well.
Jan-21-06  you vs yourself: Guys, your teammate <nakosonorense> is one of the fastest players I've ever played with. He is also a gentleman, as he resigned in the second game when he was about to win on time. It's depressing to see how easily he gets ahead on the clock. I think he beat me in every game I played him, although in the last game I came tantalizingly close to finally beating him. Good games <nakosonorense>. But don't forget that one day I'll truly beat you in a blitz game:)
Jan-21-06  RonB52734: White played 16.Nf3

Jan-21-06  RonB52734: Kudos also go to <Nako Sonorense> for being the first to discuss Nf3, which is in fact the move White just made.

WannaBe: Everyone, I probably won't be back on until after 6PM my time, 9PM eastern time. =(

have to run a 9-ball tourney all day.

my initial thought is to bring out another piece.

Jan-21-06  DrDum: <Wannabe> I posted that game I told you about on the BEER page. Let me know what you think.
Jan-21-06  RonB52734: They currently have 3 attacks on our e pawn (p, N and Q). We have 2 defenses (p and N). Our previous discussion of this move has all been to reply Bf7, and I continue to think this is correct and it gets my vote. The Queen must retreat and her escape squares are b5, e4, or d1, d2, or d3.
Jan-21-06  RonB52734: <Robin01> is out until around 7:00 (Eastern time, I presume) and <WannaBe> is out until around after 9:00 Eastern. I'll be online periodically for the remainder of the evening, and more so after about 10:00 Eastern.
Jan-21-06  Robin01: I vote for 16...Bf7 here. Unless someone finds something better and can talk me into it.
Jan-21-06  NakoSonorense: <you vs yourself>, hey, thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate it. :) Hope to keep playing with you.

<dark horses> As I said before, I don't have any move for this position. Maybe <16...Bf7> just to make the qhite queen run away.

Jan-21-06  RonB52734: Ok, <sitzkrieg>'s last comment on this position was <On first sight, i got no board now, Bf7 on Nf3 seems alright. But i have no clear follow up. Do we need to move our king, and where to?>

<WannaBe>'s last comment was <my initial thought is to bring out another piece>.

We definitely need to hear from both of them, unless it starts getting really late. Everyone else votes for Bf7.

Jan-21-06  sitzkrieg: Ill go with the rest:P
Jan-21-06  sitzkrieg: I vote Bf7

WannaBe: Back a little early, Bf7 is fine with me.
Jan-21-06  RonB52734: Ok folks, I'm posting.
Jan-21-06  RonB52734: <WannaBe> how was the tournament?

WannaBe: Fine, it went very smooth, just like a baby's behind. =)

Perhaps once the queen retreats, and pressure gets relieved, we can bring out another piece. I will do some examination later and post my analysis late late tonight, or early tomorrow morning.

WannaBe: If 17. Qb5 then a6 and Queen have to move again, unlikely choice for white.

If 17. Qe4 d5 and they can't use the knight to take (18. Nxd5 Bxd5) so they have to move the queen again, unlikely choice.

If 17. Qd1 or Qd2 or Qd3 this allows us figure out what to do with the our e-pawn facing their f-pawn situation.

We may need to resolve this situation before developing other pieces.

Jan-21-06  RonB52734: <WannaBe: If 17. Qb5 then a6 and Queen have to move again, unlikely choice for white.> Yes, although the move could be Qb6, which I'm not too excited about. We could also respond 17...Nd4 which, after 18.Nxd4 (not forced; a Q retreat is possible) 18...exd5 virtually forces an exchange of Qs.

<If 17. Qe4 d5 and they can't use the knight to take (18. Nxd5 Bxd5) so they have to move the queen again, unlikely choice.> Right. This forces the Queen backwards, allowing perhaps 18...e4 which is a nice position for us.

<If 17. Qd1 or Qd2 or Qd3 this allows us figure out what to do with the our e-pawn facing their f-pawn situation.> Here I think the choices are Be7 and Rd8. Both interesting and positive choices.

<We may need to resolve this situation before developing other pieces.> Definitely.

Jan-21-06  aw1988: I think we need to know how to deal with a pointed stick first.

WannaBe: I do not think 18...e4 is sound, the next move would be 19. Nxe4 nothing is protecting the pawn, if it's moved forward.
Jan-21-06  RonB52734: LOL <aw>... are you toughening up <WannaBe> over on your forum for us?
