Jan-21-06  RonB52734: <WannaBe> <I do not think 18...e4 is sound> Remember, this is only after a possible 18...d5. At that point, 18...e4 is indeed supported by the pawn at d5. We'd be giving up 2 pawns for a N in that situation, for a net +1, and we're already +1 to begin with.

WannaBe: <RonB52734: LOL <aw>... are you toughening up <WannaBe> over on your forum for us?>

<Aw1988> is teaching me how to play chess, Russian style, in how to beat the Pirc!

Jan-22-06  RonB52734: Good stuff, <WannaBe>

WannaBe: I'm gonna go later and pick up one of them little traveling magnetic chess sets, this way I can take it out (down at the local pub) and do quick looks with this game, or the one I'm playing with <aw1988>.

And don't have to lug my full set around with me. =)

Jan-22-06  RonB52734: I suspect they're going to make their move right before kickoff of the Steelers/Broncos game :)

WannaBe: That's okay, I can multi-task. =) Got my traveling set, now I don't have to bring out my full set when I want to analyze positions!

6.Bc4 Nc6 7.e5 Nd7 8.Bxf7+ Kxf7 9.e6+ Ke8 10.exd7+
Bxd7 11.0-0 e5 12.Qd5 Bg4 13.h3 Bh5 14.Ng5 Qd7
15.f4 h6 16.Nf3 Bf7 17.Qd3

Boy, I'd love to get the f8 bishop out there, but I also like Rd8 too...

17... Be7 18. fxe5 Nxe5 19. Nxe5 dxe5 20. Qxd7 Kxd7 21.Rd1+

17... Rd8 18. fxe5 Nxe5 19. Nxe5 dxe5 20. Qxd7 Rxd7

17... Be7 f5!? then I don't know, have not looked at this deeply.

Jan-22-06  Robin01: I like 17...Be7 here. I will analyze it some more later today.
Jan-22-06  RonB52734: You'll hear from me after the Steeler game :)

WannaBe: <RonB52734> You're gonna yell/scream so loud that the whole country'll hear?? =)
Jan-22-06  RonB52734: We did make some noise :)

I'm prepared to vote for Be7. I've been trying for quite some time to find something that beats it, and I don't see anything.

I'm beginning to feel this game is a draw if we keep playing correctly. But I'm not inclined to even offer a draw before move 20.

Jan-22-06  RonB52734: We do need to move before the end of the day.

WannaBe: Ouch... Carolina is getting their behind handed to them...

If I am an odds maker, I'll make Pittsburgh -3 vs Seattle.

I will go with Be7.

Jan-22-06  midknightblue: <Wannabe> - thx for the great pictures from your tourney. It was a nice little tour you took us on with the pix and the comments. Will you be at the tourney in Vegas in June? I am hoping to attend that one.

WannaBe: <midnightblue> Glad you liked the photos. I'm not the best photographer in the world.

I'm not going to play in the LV tournament, but my friend <DrDum> is SERIOUSLY thinking about going. If I go, I will just visit for a day or two and hang out in LV, (I have friends in LV. =) and take more photo.

You did plan to play, (and I offered my couch... =) Guess you couldn't get that thanksgiving weekend off. =(

In march, I am going to visit San Diego and see the US Championship, enroute, I plan to visit <JoeWms> (maybe he'll want to go and hang out for a day, if not, we'll have a cup of coffee together.) and if I ever hear back from <underrated> visit him also. Both <JoeWms> and <underrated> live in/around San Diego area!!

Jan-22-06  misguidedaggression: Here we go! Steelers! Here we go!
Pittsburgh's goin' to the Superbowl!
Jan-22-06  RonB52734: Did <sitzkrieg> really go to bed without voting? We may have to go with a majority of those votes that have been cast, even if that is less than 3/5. Although, I have to look back and see who first proposed Be7 for this situation. That may be a third vote. We still have some time, just under 3 hours. (But I don't want to be up until midnight...)

WannaBe: <RonB52734> I believe it was me, so if things go wrong, I'll take the blame. I'm slightly concerned about this line that I posted above:

17... Be7 18. fxe5 Nxe5 19. Nxe5 dxe5 20. Qxd7 Kxd7 21.Rd1+

Jan-22-06  RonB52734: I think we're fine escaping to e8 there. I don't see any immediate White tactics after we escape the check. Our Rooks are reasonably mobile, and our Bishop pair is well placed to defend anything immediate.
Jan-22-06  RonB52734: Between <Robin01> (look back at the discussion on 1/20/06 as well as today), and <WannaBe> and <me>, we do have 3 votes for the move. But I'm happy to wait a while longer, hoping to hear from <Nako Sonorense> and <sitzkrieg>.
Jan-22-06  Robin01: <17... Be7 18. fxe5 Nxe5 19. Nxe5 dxe5 20. Qxd7 Kxd7 21.Rd1+> Well, this line loses for us because instead of 21.Rd1+, white just plays 21.Rxf7 and we are down a piece.
Jan-22-06  Robin01: After 18.fxe5 we have to play 18...dxe5.
