 | | WannaBe: Need a little help from CG.com's Italian/European community... A friend of mine wants to stay in Italy for a while, and the last time my friend was there, internet connection was rather horrible, or so my friend says. Has this improved? How easily can one access the 'Net in Italy? Much thanks in advance. |

| Mar-27-08 | | sitzkrieg: <wannabe> I was in Italy in the summer a little south of Rome and traveled by car from (around) Anzio to the North and in every reasonable city town there was at least 1 internetcafe with excellent access, so I guess it should be no problem.
Maybe some more kibitzers with experience? |

 | | WannaBe: <sitzkrieg> I passed the information on. My friend would like to live in Italy for a while, and was wondering about DSL or cable hook up for homes. Going to 'Net Cafes can get expensive. =) |

 | | WannaBe: Alright, the Kiva account repaid her loan! Don't have to fly over there and break her knees! =) http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=bu... Now, I have to look for another person to lend the re-paid money! |

 | | WannaBe: Alright, I found another one, this time, in Ukraine. Small business owner, http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=bu... and I've committed meself to help him out. If you can, this kiva.org is great, you don't have to put up/lend a lot of money, just a small sum would go a great distance in helping others. If you don't help, or if Uriy don't pay, I'll fly to Ukraine and personally break his legs!! :-)) |

| Apr-02-08 | | valiant: The big eveningsnewspaper Corriere della sera's English division, Italian Life, has a very long article about - internet connection, Italy - Still interested in this topic?. A short excerpt... Italy’s digital divide emerged for the first time in late 2004, when the Observatory, directed by François de Brabant, showed that 9.8 million Italians had no access to broadband and could be considered digitally disabled. Disadvantaged regions included Piedmont, Veneto and Lombardy, as well as Campania, Lazio and Sicily. That was in 2004 but the picture has changed in the Observatory’s new 2007 report. At the end of last year, the situation was looking distinctly better and Italy's digitally divided population had dropped from 9.8 to 3.4 million individuals. Nevertheless, some areas of northern Italy, especially the wealthy, populous Veneto region, were still in poor shape. |

| Apr-03-08 | | Knight13: <WannaBe> I borrowed Norton Anti-Virus from my friend and it killed it. Said the stuff infecting is "Spyware" and the other one it said "Trojan" with something after it. I couldn't even open the internet explorer without turning off the internet connection, and it also blocked me from opening files on my computer! My dad erased the comp's memory and used that Anti-Virus to kill off the trojand and spyware thing and now it works. Thanks! |
