| Jun-05-09 | | YouRang: <Also did you hear about the suicide of David Carradine in Thailand? Terrible thing.> Now they're not so sure it was suicide. It might have been accidental suffocation during a bizarre (IMO) attempt at sexual self-stimulation. <Pornthip Rojanasunand, director of Thailand's Central Institute of Forensic Science, said Carradine may have died attempting a sex act known as auto-erotic asphyxiation — cutting off oxygen to the brain for sexual arousal.> http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090605...-- Frankly, it's an all-around bad way to end up... |

 | | Open Defence: hows it going <Wannabe> ? |
Jun-06-09
 | | WannaBe: <Open Defence> Things are alright, still waiting for the economy to stage its recovery. =) Oh yeah, still searching for a computer job, but not trying very hard, since I'm doing okay, and I know there are people out there who need the work more than I do. |

 | | Open Defence: I got too much work.. havent touched a chess board in about 8 days :( good to hear things are still ok... hope they improve and quick have you thought of maybe working in India as a high end consultant ? |
| Jun-06-09 | | technical draw: A "high end consultant"? I don't even want to think what that might be. |
| Jun-06-09 | | NakoSonorense: It just means consulting people who are high at the end of the day. |

 | | WannaBe: <Open Defence> Hehehe... Tempting idea, leave the joint to <DrDum> to handle... He is actually working for me one day a week, Saturday (right now, actually.) 4:30 PM to closing shift! Love to travel, so that doesn't bother me, got my passport handy, just need to go to the local Indian Consulate to get it stamped. And then I'm ready to go. =) |
| Jun-10-09 | | NakoSonorense: <wannabe> You'll probably be happy to know that I just finished with my last final exam at UCLA! Aaaaaaaah it feels soooo good! xD |

 | | WannaBe: Here is a perfect catch-22
Company A is busy, and need to hire people, Company A's managers are busy with their projects, (because they are short-handed) and can't spare the time to review resumes. Hence, Company A can't/haven't been able to find suitable candidates to even consider! Company A is busy, very busy. |

| Jun-10-09 | | YouRang: <WannaBe><Stop this 'information' madness!!!> I agree. :-)
I wonder if those of us who work with computers/software tend to be less fascinated with all the facebook/twitter/etc. stuff? And I wonder what the ramifications will be? Will it end up that people have more of an anonymous electronic presence than they do a personal physical presence? BTW, I do like texting on my cell phone. I think of it as a logical extension of email (which was a great invention). But I know that lots of people abuse it. |

 | | WannaBe: <YouRang> Yah!! First agreement with my comment/statement!! =) I hate texting, just abhore it. Call me old fashioned, call me, if I don't answer, leave a message. The world and society doesn't need to be instant, or instantaeous (sp??) For goodness sake, give us a rest!!! If you need (or feel the need) to be constantly in contact, there maybe something wrong with you. Most of us, just want to be 'left alone'!! (And do our own thing, like this silly game, that we call chess...) |

Yes, I am very glad. It means I don't have to drive 30 miles, and pay for lunch for 2, and then get my rear-end kicked in 10/0 games anymore!!! Image all that gas money and humiliation that I don't have to suffer!!! Oh, by the way, <CONGRATULATIONS>!!!!! |
| Jun-11-09 | | technical draw: <Image all that gas money and humiliation that I don't have to suffer!!!> I mis-read it as "Image all the gas and humiliation when I have to syphon" |
| Jun-11-09 | | Trigonometrist: Man this sucks!! Everybody's either completed a slew of exams or finished solving cyberspace intricacies... What about me?? Some guy just copied the quote on my profile and called it the Quote Of the Day...:( *shakes head*
Go on live your happy lives people, while guys like me get plaigiarised (misspelled perhaps)... |

| Jun-11-09 | | YouRang: <WannaBe><I hate texting, just abhore it. Call me old fashioned, call me, if I don't answer, leave a message. The world and society doesn't need to be instant, or instantaeous (sp??)> Perhaps you're thinking of the kids who sit there and carry on a lengthy dialogue via text messages, wasting gobs of time (and expense usually) in the process. One wonders what ailments will afflict their fingers when they get older. :-o But I like texting in principle because it *doesn't* require an instantaneous dialogue. You can receive a note from someone without ringing your phone, and reply to it (or not) when it's convenient. You can send a note to someone, and know that they'll see it eventually, even if it's not convenient for them to receive it *now*. :-) |
| Jun-11-09 | | kellmano: <YouRang> Precisely. For me, the text allows you to cut to the meat of a dialogue without the need for niceties. In true instantaneous conversation (a phone call for example), social mores require irrelvant chatter. I have heard that texting is not something regularly done in the UAS. Is this correct? In England, it has almost overtaken the phone call. |

 | | WannaBe: <kellmano> Actually, texting is quite common/popular in the U.S. mostly among the younger crowd, us old farts still use Morse Code and the Pony Express! |
| Jun-11-09 | | NakoSonorense: Texting is a great way for getting out of a situation without giving too much explanation, if any. For example, the last text in my inbox reads: "Cant go. Have fun. Ttyl" |
| Jun-11-09 | | YouRang: <WannaBe: <kellmano> Actually, texting is quite common/popular in the U.S. mostly among the younger crowd, us old farts still use Morse Code and the Pony Express!> Unfortunately, we can't do smoke signals anymore (stupid EPA). ;-) |
| Jun-11-09 | | whiskeyrebel: I've witnessed some pathetic cases of text-oholics who are addicted to mundane back and forth blather. A woman I worked with was terminated a month after we were hired and trained together. After she was gone all of us who worked with her realized we didn't even know here name for sure, since she was so hung up on constant texting and cellphone conversations during breaks. A pity. If I were still raising a kid (he's grown) I'd see to it that he underwent at least a few days per month without a cellphone so I could feel confident he could function without one. |

 | | Phony Benoni: I can't get the hang of texting. Unfortunately, my fingers are built for manual typewriters, and can't handle the delicate stuff. A couple of years ago, I was going through some old files and found a virgin sheet of carbon paper. We thought about auctioning it on e-Bay. |
Jun-12-09
 | | WannaBe: <Phony Benoni> If it is not double sided carbon paper, I ain't bidding!! |
