| Jun-30-09 | | Jim Bartle: No way Shaq is worth his salary any more, unless he virtually guarantees a trip to the finals. In Cleveland it depends whether he'll accept his status as supporting player to LeBron. If he still thinks he's the man, or "co-man," it won't work. In the late 90s, maybe early 00s, the Knicks had a pretty strong team when Ewing was injured. All they lacked was a strong inside presence to defend and rebound. So is that what Ewing does when he comes back? No, he starts shooting every time he gets the ball, taking Houston and Sprewell out of the offense. And the team was no better than before. |
| Jun-30-09 | | just a kid: I think it will be good for Cleveland though because it gives them that inside presence that they never had. That frees up lebron from the perimeter. |
| Jun-30-09 | | Jim Bartle: True, as long as Shaq accepts that now he's the "sidekick." Also he has to realize he no longer gets the "superstar" call as he did for so many years. Now if he flat out runs over a defender, or takes five steps, he'll probably be called for it. A big change which he didn't adjust to in Phoenix, from the few games I saw. |

 | | chancho: If acquiring Shaq, does not yield the hoped for result, Cavaliers management will look awfully stupid for spending all that dough. |
| Jun-30-09 | | zanshin: <chancho> They need to give LeBron a reason to stay after his contract expires. The plan was to win the NBA championship this year. So now they are in a (pretty desperate) Plan B. If the Shaq experiment fails, then LeBron will leave and the Cavaliers franchise will have nothing to look forward to except the annual draft lottery. Apologies to Cavs fans, just calling it as I see it ... |
| Jun-30-09 | | Jim Bartle: It just looks bad to me, especially with LeBron's bitter exit. The Cavs just don't look like a team to me, just a bunch of parts supporting James. |
| Jun-30-09 | | NakoSonorense: <Cavaliers management will look awfully stupid for spending all that dough.> Just like the Suns! The Cavs must be carzy to think that Shaq can stop Howard. Howard keeps getting better while Shaq keep getting older. Lakers two-peat |
| Jun-30-09 | | chessmoron: Any opinions for Orlando acquiring Vince Carter? |
| Jun-30-09 | | Jim Bartle: I don't think Carter is a winner. He was strong his first couple of years, but now he's just putting in his time, willing to take 3-pointers rather than try to drive to the basket. The anti-Kobe, in my opinion, content to ride on his natural talent rather than working to get better. |
| Jun-30-09 | | zanshin: <The anti-Kobe, in my opinion, content to ride on his natural talent rather than working to get better.> <Jim> I thought that was Shaq ;-) |
| Jun-30-09 | | Jim Bartle: Yes, but Carter is not 7 ft. and 300 pounds. |

 | | chancho: <Nako: Lakers two-peat> Well, the boys from Boston might have something to say about that. :-) |
| Jun-30-09 | | just a kid: I think Carter will be a good 2nd with Rashard Lewis. He has to learn he not the star there though. |

Question: What is the cause of death of Michael Jackson. |
| Jul-01-09 | | refutor: <any opinions on Orlando getting Vince Carter> they got him for nothing...i bet there's 28 other GMs who are kicking themselves...ego aside, he can create his own shot and drive to the basket and those were two things that orlando was missing <he has to learn he's not the star there though> true dat |

| Jul-02-09 | | chessmoron: Lakers getting Ron Artest. Dios mios. |
| Jul-02-09 | | Jim Bartle: If Artest accepts his proper role and doesn't try to be the star, he's the perfect guy for the Lakers. Sort of the same thing I said about Vince Carter, though Artest is a lot more valuable player. |
| Jul-02-09 | | chessmoron: There's a possibility of Ariza going to Houston for Artest. I think Artest is tougher, better shooter, better scorer, and better defender than Ariza, anyone agree? |
| Jul-02-09 | | Jim Bartle: I agree 100%. He's also about six years older than Ariza, so you're looking for more short-term results. Then again, with players jumping around so much (off court, that is), you might as well get a couple good years now, because long-term planning is hard. The Lakers with Bryant, Artest, Gasol, Odom and Fisher would be even tougher, and if Bynum ever gets it together, look out. |

 | | WannaBe: <Jim Bartle> My friend, unfortunately, I have to disagree, this will be no different than the Kobe-Shaq-Payton-Mailman combo, too many chiefs (Chieves? Chefs?) and not enough Indians... |
Jul-02-09
 | | chancho: Artest is talented, but the guy can go berserk in any given situation.
I think this move will probably backfire on the Lakers. |
| Jul-02-09 | | Jim Bartle: Piggy: That's why I said "look out!"
WannaBe: That could be a problem if Artest doesn't realize everybody on that team is an Indian except Bit Chief Kobe. Actually I thought that 2004 Lakers team played pretty well, though Payton's and especially Malone's best days were behind them. They just ran into a talented team perfectly in synch in the Pistons. |
