WannaBe: Not sure why the LAA@CSOX game got played today, as of now, it is 12:13AM in Central Time, and they are bottom 8th. The game could very easily scheduled for DH Tuesday or Wednesday, as this is game one of 3 game series. (Not like it's the only trip LAA to Chicago and it's the last ...

Feb-06-06  sitzkrieg: They played Bd4.
Feb-06-06  RonB52734: Ng6 looks good here. Qf3 or Qe3 look like white's likely responses.

WannaBe: I think I'll be home around 9:15 EST. Then we can look at/discuss Ng6/Nd7/Nc6.

  WannaBe: If

28...Ng6 <-- adds an extra protector for f8 square. And prevents 29.Qxg7 but does nothing for 29. Bxg7 Rg8 30.Bxh6

28...Nd7 <-- Also adds extra protector for f8 and also b8 (queen)

28...Nc6? <-- not sure what this would do.

Need to somehow get the a8 rook into action here, it's been sitting there way to long doing nothing.

WannaBe: Taking a break, be back to look at it some more.
Feb-06-06  RonB52734: Ng6 does not allow them to play BxP, because we would play QxQ. I vote Ng6.

  WannaBe: <RonB52734> Err... Yes. Don't know how I over-looked that.... =(
Feb-06-06  Robin01: I do not like any knight moves here. We have to give the knight back, and trying to save it puts us in deep trouble. So I have been looking for an alternative. I have been looking at this for a while now, and I vote for 28...Be6. I figure they have three moves if we play 28...Be6. They have 29.Rxf8+, or 29.Rxe5, or 29.Bxe5.

29.Rxf8+, 29...Bxf8, 30.Rxe5, 30...Qd6
OR 29.Rxf8+, 29...Bxf8, 30.Bxe5, 30...Qa7+

29.Rxe5, 29...Rxf1+, 30.Kxf1, 30...Kd7

29.Bxe5, 29...Qb6+, 30.Kh1, 30...Rxf1+, 31.Rxf1, 31...g5

These are the three lines I have been looking at. I think we have a better chance playing 28...Be6.

Please check my analysis to see if it is okay, but I think it is.

So my vote is for Be6.

WannaBe: I will check in tomorrow morning 10 AM EST or shortly after to cast my vote. I have deleted my previous vote post.

WannaBe: My current only reservation against Be6 is that it leaves 2 pieces 'unprotected' the knight has is attacked more than it's protected and there is nothing protecting the biship afterwards.

If, 29...Be6 30. Rxe5!? Rxf1+ 31. Kxf1 Qd6?!

Anyway, I'll check back in tomorrow morning.

Feb-07-06  RonB52734: I'm not averse to giving the knight back if it pulls them out of position, but here, giving the knight back on e5 allows them to centralize in a big way. Also, 28...Be6 29.Qxg7 and our position is shattered.

On the other hand, 28...Ng6 adds protection to e7, temporarily protects g7, and forces the white Q to move. I don't see the danger here.

Feb-07-06  Robin01: If we play 28...Ng6 then I believe they will play 29.Qf3. I have to stay with my vote for 28...Be6. Anyhow, I'm off to work. Let's see how everyone else votes.
Feb-07-06  Robin01: I think we need to post soon though.
Feb-07-06  RonB52734: Ok, we need some more votes here. We have to move in less than 80 minutes. I'm staying with 28...Ng6. If 29.Qf3, which I agree is likely, then we can play 29...Qc8

WannaBe: i think we still have 40 min. Hummina, hummina, hmmm...
Feb-07-06  sitzkrieg: In wannabes line at the end they might play Bc5 with a better position, but then again i fear they already have a better position anyway. I think Robins lines are correct, but dont like our position at the end of them. I also dont like our position after Ng6 too much anymore (I think i said it was ok, so sorry guys), for they got threats on c6 and g7 and possibly a8 wich are though to defend. I really need to analyze it better, but dont think ill be back in time. If i havent posted in time I will go with Be6 for then at least we can trade of some attacking pieces, and will hopefully cut down on variations.

WannaBe: I'll also go with Be6
Feb-07-06  RonB52734: Ok, that makes it a majority for Be6. I'll post it.
Feb-07-06  RonB52734: I'll post it closer to 11:00, that is. <sitzkrieg> indicated he might post some more analysis.
Feb-07-06  sitzkrieg: I am too late; but havent had a chanche to analyze it anyway. Thanks for waiting non the less. I hope we made a good decision,it would be a damn shame if Ng6 was good for us. Now lets see what they do.
Feb-07-06  Robin01: We played 28...Be6 I see. Regardless of how it turns out, I still think it is better than 28...Ng6.
Feb-07-06  Robin01: I think white's position is much better than ours right now regardless of which move we made.
Feb-07-06  sitzkrieg: Ah well, our superior skill and talent will help us overcome. Keep the faith:)
