Feb-08-06  Robin01: I have noticed that the white team seem to answer our moves fairly fast the last few moves.

WannaBe: I think we could have answered Bxf8 a lot sooner also, but we just decided to hang low for a few hours. =)
Feb-08-06  Robin01: <WannaBe> Well, that is true.

Feb-08-06  Robin01: There are a number of moves they can play here.
Feb-08-06  Robin01: I'm looking through a book on the Queen's Gambit Accepted. It's actually quite an exciting opening.
Feb-08-06  Robin01: <FIFA World Cup Prediction contest> Do you know how many teams will start in the event?

WannaBe: <Robin01> 32 teams into 8 groups. 4 teams per group. top 2 of each group after round robin play goes into knock-out bracket.

WannaBe: So, white have QRBN and 4 pawns, two on each side, we have qrbb 4 pawns, two on each side...

now... if we play Qd6... it allows us to activate the a8 rook.

So, if 30...Qd6 31 Ne4 Qxd4+ no, that drops the bishop for white. scratch that.

Feb-08-06  Robin01: 30...Qd6 looks the best, but we have a lot of time to analyze this.

WannaBe: What do you guys think? I currently am looking at Qd6.
Feb-08-06  RonB52734: Right now I would say their next move is going to be Qg6+. So let's say 30...Qd6 31.Qg6+ (threatening the e6 bishop and our entire center) so then what? Maybe 31...Kd7. I do like having Qd6 in there because now our Q can give check if it can get to either the dark diagonal or the back rank. In other words, their B is in a quandary. We should look again to see if there's anything better. 30...Bd6 doesn't work because after 31.Qg6+, our e6 Bishop falls with a loud crash.
Feb-08-06  RonB52734: Of course there is 30...Qd6 31.Bc5 which is an interesting problem. It may well be, as someone suggested before, that we trade the Q for the R+B. I think we may conclude that is worth the price.
Feb-09-06  sitzkrieg: I think we should try the line Ron mentions. I think they will go for the queen. After that we will have some material compensation, not too much, but maybe enough to hold out. Biggest problems is how to keep the pawns and make our pieces work as a team. After Qd6 Bc5 Qc5 Rc5 Bc5check K moves, then g7 is attacked and the rook is still offside. At first sight I would say either Bf8 or Bd4 and maybe we can bring the king to g8 safe from checks.

You do remember your teams name do you!?? Try talk yourself out of this one:)

Feb-09-06  RonB52734: <sitzkrieg> I'm just glad we didn't name ourselves the Flaming Queens. Although, that might be easier to remember :)
Feb-09-06  Robin01: <After Qd6 Bc5 Qc5 Rc5 Bc5check K moves, then g7 is attacked and the rook is still offside> You mention two moves here if it goes in this direction, and I like the Bf8 move in this case.
Feb-09-06  Robin01: <let's say 30...Qd6 31.Qg6+> Now, I'm going to have to look at this some more. I will not have time to analyze this until later tonight.
Feb-09-06  Robin01: How about the "Bloody Bishops."
Feb-09-06  sitzkrieg: Suggestion for other team; <P(a)wned>

  WannaBe: hum, 30...Kd7? (avoids Qg6+)
or 30...Bd6 31. Qxg7 Bxe5 32. Bxe5 Qg8
Feb-09-06  RonB52734: <WannaBe> On 30...Bd6 they simply play 31.Qg6+. Then they can move the Rook on the next move. 31.Qxg7 does not look like a good move for them since it drops the Rook.

30...Kd7 is unclear to me. It might transpose into the lines I mentioned earlier after 31.Qg6 Qd6, but I'm worried about 30...Kd7 31.Nd5, with 32.Nb6 to follow. Playing 30..Qd6 prevents this little Knight maneouver.
