WannaBe: <perfidious> Hehheheh I was in on of those pools, number of years; lots of fun, only 5 bux/week to enter, no one gets 'hurts'. And the house/bar buys you a beer when you participate. (They know you will sit there for just a 'few' more cold ones) Now, those elimination pools on

FSR: As you may recall, my first game against <zzurc> of <Immortal Kings> [sic] went 1.a3?! d5!! and <zzurc> flagged. My second game has now concluded in similar fashion:

[Event "Team match"]
[Site "http://gameknot.com/chess.pl?bd=211..."]
[Date "2014.05.13"]
[Round "-"]
[White "krakatoa1"]
[Black "zzurc"]
[Result "1-0"]
[WhiteElo "2045"]
[BlackElo "2025"]
[TimeControl "1/432000"]
[Mode "ICS"]
[Termination "time forfeit"]

1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e5 3. dxe5 Ng4 4. Bf4 Nc6 5. Nf3 Bb4+ 6. Nbd2 Qe7 7. e3 Ngxe5 8. Nxe5 Nxe5 9. Be2 O-O 10. O-O Bxd2 11. Qxd2 d6 12. b4 a5 13. a3 Rd8 14. Qc3

I didn't realize it at the time, but we are following, move for move, Smyslov vs L Blackstock, 1988. Blackstock played 14...f6 with a solid position, but was ground down in 62. White is a little better, but I am not Smyslov. Here my opponent found a stunning innovation: 1-0 (time)!

This already gives us a victory in the 2-board match, since <rookie879 / just a kid> has (so far) won one of his two games against his <Immortal King>, <spero5>. (He actually had to win the game instead of having the guy flag in a book position.) http://gameknot.com/team-match.pl?b... We're thus 3-0 so far, and can't do worse than 3-1. Yay, us!

WannaBe: Very interesting, that many private schools are amongst the top, e.g. Duke, Stanford, Rice, Notre Dame.

But boy, UCLA is #2 in the Pac and 'SC with Cal is near the bottom. 'SC, I can understand, but Cal?!!?

May-15-14  Mating Net: Speaking of sports, are you running the World Cup predictions this summer Bugsy? If so, I will submit my best guesses.

WannaBe: <Mating Net> Funny you asked, <Nako> and I were talking about this when we were having lunch a few weeks ago...

We were wondering if I should do it, or he do it using my forum. Either way is fine/cool with me.

So, short answer is <YES> there will be one. Details next week. =))

May-15-14  Mating Net: Awesome news! Great minds think alike, lol. I will have to consult my double secret tea leaves and nail down some winners.

Kings-Ducks Game 7, Stanley Cup Play-off, cheapest ticket 120 bucks

Tampa Bay-Angels, cheapest ticket 10 bucks

May-15-14  NakoSonorense: Have you ever been to a Hockey game? I'd like to go to one, but I'm not sure if it's enjoyable. I mean, the puck is so small that you wouldn't even be able to see it.
May-15-14  NakoSonorense: <So, short answer is <YES> there will be one. Details next week. =))>

I forgot about the scoring system I used last time. I guess I can open my forum again. I mean, as long as it's for a good cause!

WannaBe: <NakoSonorense> Been to more hockey games than I have chess wins. The trick, is to watch the players (same on TV) not try to find the puck. Been a Kings fan since they were called Princes.

I find it also true watching tennis, if the player runs to the right, that's where the ball is headed. =))

Re: World Cup Prediction, when I did it, you pick the 2 group winners, each right is 1 pt (total 16) 1/8 round is worth 2 pts for right pick, 1/4 round is 4 pts, 1/2 is 8pts and final is 16 pts.

And it was done in 2 stages, group play and then knock-out play. So if someone missed group prediction, they can still join for knock-out.

You can use my forum, as always. =)

May-16-14  SugarDom: Brazil or Argentina will win football world cup.
May-16-14  Mating Net: The Kings are favorites tonight. They have a huge advantage with Quick. Hard to see Gibson outplaying Quick in a game 7.

WannaBe: <Mating Net> Okay, we are jinx'd... By the way, the team that scored first, have won that game.

Which means it will be 0-0 after 3 periods tonight.

May-16-14  Mating Net: The Kings played their best game of the playoffs against San Jose in game 7. I expect something similar tonight. Sure, it's always better to play with the lead when you can rely on Quick to hold the fort. I didn't realize that all the games were decided by the team scoring first, definitely something to look for.

May-16-14  Mating Net: I stand corrected, 5, cinco!
May-16-14  Mating Net: Getzlaf & Perry are both -3 and Perry misses a penalty shot, love it.
