OhioChessFan: ***Moves Prediction Contest Is Back!!!***

A message from The Legendary <chessmoron> ===========

Hey <friends> What better way to have a prediction contest than a <World Championship>. Get you prediction hat on, and let's PREDICT!

The drawing of colors will be available on Nov 24th (Opening Ceremony). All predictions must be posted on User: OhioChessFan before NOV 26th, 2021 at 7:30AM Eastern time.

Since there's 14 games total, predict as many games as you think the winner will need to score 7.5 points, the number needed to win the match. Then predict the number of moves each game you think will be played.

Be warned, if a game is not played and you predicted a game result, you will lose 3 points. ie. If game 14 is not played and you predict a game 14, you lose 3 points."

Posting format:

G1: Nepomniachtchi-Carlsen (1-0, 1/2, or 0-1) (# of moves played)

G2: Carlsen-Nepomniachtchi (1-0, 1/2, or 0-1) (# of moves played)

3. Only Moves+Bonus Ranker (See OhioChessFan chessforum 's profile on what that is about) will be used to medal.

4. I will post results after game 4, game 8, game 12, and game 14.

WannaBe: Part One. TL; DR: French words are funny...

A few month ago, maybe 6, I came across an article on SFGate.com on a new app, maybe a startup, called "Too Good To Go" that just arrived in North America (It started in Europe, Denmark)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Too_G...

So I got interested and downloaded the app, put in my location and (only) to find out, there are no participating restaurant(s) in my prescribed 15mi radius. (Convert that to KM on your own!!)

About 3 week ago, the app starts beeping, would I be interesting in some bread or baked goods for $4.99 (at this location, your price may vary)

The caveat is, I have to pick them up an hour before the bidness closes, (no, you can't go earlier, and you reserve and pay the night before; yes, you can cancel.) which happens to be 3PM and I am usually working!!

So after weeks of getting notification on my mobile, last night I decided to give this new thing a try, heck, new Micron strain is coming; I might as well as get out of house while I still can.

(Plug in the address into GPS, drive to Claremont, CA; spend 5 minutes to find parking in downtown Claremont and walk to the store)

The door have a sign that says mask <ABSOLUTELY> required indoor. So I put mine on. The hostess told me to hang on while the manager will handle my 'order'.

She was very nice, put items into two small bags, and then put the 2 bags into a bigger tote bag (I also brought my own, on the recommendation of the app), and she informed me that what I got is listed on the receipt. On my way out, I took a paper to-go menu.

I got Pumpkin Muffin, Coconut Macaroon, Double Choclate Chip Cookie and the last item, which I will name below.

Besides the time of pick-up 2-2:45PM during working hour, is the name of the place... Wait for it. Le Pain Quotidien (Now, I don't speak fluent French, or even speak Canadian-Quebecian-Montrealian-Cajonian French). To me, that translates to Pain Threshold.

To top it off, the 4th item that I got in the bag is something called "Pain Aux Raisins". I know it hurts to be shrunk from a grape to a raisin, but must one rub it in?

Like naming a wine Pain Aux Stomp Grapus?

  WannaBe: Part Two

TL; DR: Consumerism vs Speed vs Waste

Now, could the food be donated? Sure, watch some homeless people fighting over who gets the (last) double-chocolate cookie at the local food shelter.

Now, let's say you are KFC, or Panda Express, or El Pollo Loco, your food are pre-cooked and sitting in a steamer (Hello Pick-up-Sticks) and at the end of the night (9PM, or 10PM) and you got a bunch of mixture of rice, chowmein, eggrolls, soup, etc.

Your cook and hired help don't want them, they've been eating them for weeks (free meal!!) do you toss them? Donate them to the food shelter? (they are closed, probably...)

I think, for business that is only open for a certain hours or only serve a specific food during certain hours this would work.

(e.g. Dim Sum, which usually starts 9AM-1:30PM and the restaurant switches over to regular off the menu ordering. And if you don't know what Dim Sum is, google it. It is where a bunch of food gets pre-cooked and usually a cart comes around, you pick out what you want and a marker gets stamped on your 'bill'.

At the end of the meal, one of the many supervisors comes over and adds it all up in front your table, without a calculator)

So, I can see situations where this is nice... Dang, we over-estimated the Mu-Shu Dumpling, or the Har Gow Dumpling. Or there's that eight servings of Fried Chicken going to waste.

(The original article on SFGate.com had the reporter sign up and got the food from Chinatown Dim Sum, and in part, that's what got me interested...)

Opinions? Comments? Anyone from EU who uses/knows this App? Maybe you are one of the founder of this?

WannaBe: Big ouch on playing options, for someone so young. Bringing the 'power' to masses, and equalizing the field from them 'Big Players', right Robinhood? (Okay, the poster did not mention Robinhood in the posting)

This is <WHY> people should <NOT> be allowed to trade, until they have shown some kind of understanding. Just because someone is 18, it is <NOT> an automatic drivers license, or gun ownership.

(Also, having lived in South Dakota, I know plenty of 14 year olds that can drive trackers/trucks/trailers and can shoot like Annie Oakley

But you can be under 18, have kids and beat the crap out of them under the idea of discipline and parenthood.)

Dec-01-21  suenteus po 147: <WannaBe> I tried following the Stockfish analysis you posted, but the notation starts hurting my brain around move 11 :-p

I was following this game: Yifan Hou vs Van Wely, 2016 You deviated with 10...Bg7 and from there I had to improvise. I actually thought you came out of my kingside attack relatively well, but then you sacced your knight, which I couldn't understand. From there, I just had to keep giving you problems where I came out a little bit ahead each time.

Still, it was a good game! You gave me a tough time, and I certainly don't think my opening gave me any real advantage.

Finally paid attention to the opening credit (unlike today, where the credit roll are at the end of the movie)

James Clavell is one of the script writer!! He is (more) famous for Sho-Gun, Nobel House and many other novels.

The movie is free on YouTube (with ads), but if you use ad-blocker (I use it on my Chrome), you don't see any ads. If you need to go bathroom, just pause the movie. =))

WannaBe: Oh, goodness gracious, watching "No Time to Die" the latest Bond movie... But this time at home on laptop instead on big screen because of Covid and now Omicron.

Wonderful intro, that motorcycle scene is absolutely amazing (What else does one expect from Bond movie??)

Best line so far, and there have been so, so, so, so, many is when James Bond (retired, no longer have the moniker 007) says "The desk is the same size.

That is just about as British insult/humour as one can be (my opinion). I had to pause the video and really laughed out loud for a solid minute.

Think I will watch that scene again. Ralph F. does do a good/great job as 'M'.
