<Jer 20:10-13

Jeremiah said:

"I hear the whisperings of many:
'Terror on every side!
Denounce!
Let us denounce him!'
All those who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine.

Perhaps he'll be trapped; then we can prevail, and take our vengeance on him.

But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph.

In their failure, they will be put to utter shame, to lasting, unforgettable confusion.

O LORD of hosts, you who test the just, who probe mind and heart, let me witness the vengeance you take on them, for to you, I have entrusted my cause.

Sing to the LORD,
praise the LORD,
for he has rescued the life of the poor
from the power of the wicked!">

<1 Corinthians 13

13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

9 For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; 10 but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.>

<The Promise of the Lord's Coming

The Second Letter of Peter

Chapter 3

1 This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you; in them I am trying to arouse your sincere intention by reminding you

2 that you should remember the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken through your apostles.

3 First of all you must understand this, that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and indulging their own lusts

4 and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since our ancestors died, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation!?

5 They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water,

6 through which the world of that time was deluged with water and perished.

7 But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the godless.

8 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.

9 The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and everything that is done on it will be disclosed.

11 Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness,

12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set ablaze and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire?

13 But, in accordance with his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home.

Final Exhortation and Doxology

14 Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish;

15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation. So also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,

16 speaking of this as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.

17 You therefore beloved, since you are forewarned, beware that you are not carried away with the error of the lawless and lose your own stability.

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.

Amen.>

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.>
It should be a good one.
Jan-15-07  hitman84: Hi <chancho>,
I've planned to organise a friendly consultation team chess game b/n some of the experienced kibitzers on the site.
The date of commencement will be decided after consulting with the members in the roster.
Rules( liable to change ) :
1. Three members on a team.
2. 2 days/move.
Once a total of six members fill the roster, "draw of lots" shall be used to decide the team.
I'm yet to decide on the forums to be used for the game.
I invite you to join the game. I'm sure everyone invovled in the game will enjoy and friendship will blossom among the members.
Thank you!
Jan-15-07  YouRang: <YouRang: Early superbowl prediction: Ravens vs. Saints
Winner: Ravens >
Er, a slight revision: Replace "Ravens" with "Patriots".
Jan-15-07  square dance: no faith in the colts, huh?
Jan-15-07  YouRang: Well, I like the Colts, and I'll even be rooting for them. But I haven't been as impressed with them lately.
The Patriots tend to rise to the occasion, and they usually give the Colts a hard time -- even in Indianapolis.
BTW, there have been lots of great, close, playoff games so far! Still can't believe Seattle's win over Dallas.
Jan-15-07  positionalgenius: <yourang>I'm a cowboys fan,and that made me sick.We could have gone to the super bowl... As far as NE-Indy,I pick the Patriots because of Tom brady.
Jan-15-07  YouRang: <positionalgenius> I have to admit I was rooting for Seattle, but I feel bad for Tony Romo. The guy had a great year, only to end the Cowboy's season by botching the hold for an easy FG.
At least he can share some blame with Terry Glenn, the guy who fumbled the ball earlier giving Seattle a safety (2 pts) and a chance to take the lead (which they did).
Jan-15-07  square dance: no, dallas could not have gone to the superbowl. no way. i cant see them beating the saints, eagles, or bears. not the way they had been playing. they just need a couple more parts before they're legit contenders in the nfc. actually, it may be that they pretty much have what they need, but they just need more time to grow as a team.
Jan-15-07  positionalgenius: <yourang>yes the fumble by glenn changed alot.Before that we were in complete control. <square dance>The way we were playing in that game before the glenn fumble,yes.As far as growing as a team,thats true.Romo will only get better from here.
Jan-16-07  you vs yourself: <Yeah, Manning really showed the Ravens something. Oh wait, that was Adam Viniateri. :) J/K> Manning struggled in that game. But I guess it should've been almost expected as he was facing the #1 defense in the league.
Meanwhile, Brady played like "playoff Peyton". With the game on the line in 4th quarter, he threw another interception(he threw one against Denver in last year's playoff game too). Thanks to Troy Brown and his own play after he got that second chance, Brady's in the AFC championship game.
I am predicting a colts victory. If they win, the most dramatic way to do it would be on an Adam Vinatieri game winner;-)
Oh the irony!
Jan-17-07  chessmoron: <chancho> Will you be an co-arbiter for my tournament (providing FENs on your profile header and the moves of 1 game for each round)? Dates and time and where to play are on my forum header.
You will be using this FEN page to help you do the FENs: http://www.lokasoft.nl/tbweb.htm .
You will update one move at a time (eg. 1. d4 Nf6 will be a update; 2. d4 e6 will be another update and so on). If you like another kibitzer be a subsitute for you, I'll be recruiting one for you.
  chancho: <chessmoron> Sorry that I took so long to answer. Your tournament starts on Feb 10 and during that time a contractor will be working on my house. (adding new windows, changing the balcony etc) Alot of noise and distraction will be the norm during that time. So as much as I wish I could help, I can't. Sorry.
Jan-21-07  YouRang: Yee-haw!! Did you see Reggie Bush score for the Saints? 14-16! :-)
Jan-21-07  YouRang: Hmmm, things have been going south for the Saints.. down by 11 in the 4th, with foul weather, and Chicago has the ball. Hopefully they can get it back and get the ball to Bush some more.
Jan-21-07  YouRang: Ouch, make that "down by 18". :-(
Saints need 3 TDs
  WannaBe: Not looking too good for N.O. right now...
Tough to score that many points with less than 12 minutes left in the 4th...
Jan-21-07  positionalgenius: Well,I was wrong on both games. Reggie Bush's TD was spectacular and reminded me of his days as a trojan-pure speed. Manning and colts win 38-34.I am happy for payton.He's too good not to get to the super bowl at least once.Brady threw an INT with 20 seconds left.Thats something he doesn't do normally,and will fuel the fire for him next year.
Jan-22-07  YouRang: Well, a week ago, I proudly announced my prediction that the Superbowl would be: Patriots vs. Saints.
I hope that many of you recognized this golden opportunity to bet heavily on the Colts and Bears.
Bad news for the Colts: I predict that they will win the Superbowl!
  WannaBe: <YouRang: ... Bad news for the Colts: I predicted that...>
You're due for a winner, so I think people should bet heavily on the Colts. =)
Funny Super Bowl factoids...
Never before, have an African-American head coach led a team to the Super Bowl, and this year both team are led by African-American head coach.
Who also happened to be coaches on the same team. (Tampa Bay) Tony Dungy was the head coach, and Lovie Smith was one of his assistant!
No indoor-based team (A.K.A. Dome-Team) have won a Super Bowl game that's held out-doors.
When the Rams won it, the game was held (in-door) at the New Orleans Superdome.
This year's game, is at Miami, out-doors. Which is kind-a bad news for the Colts.
Plus what <YouRang> just posted, I'm gonna bet the house on Chicago, and taking the free points too!! =)
Is Tony Dungy considered African-American? And if so, wasn't he coach at Tampa Bay when they went to (and won) the Super Bowl?
Jan-22-07  chessmoron: <YouRang> That's Jon Gruden not Tony Dungy.
