<Jer 20:10-13

Jeremiah said:

"I hear the whisperings of many:
'Terror on every side!
Denounce!
Let us denounce him!'
All those who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine.

Perhaps he'll be trapped; then we can prevail, and take our vengeance on him.

But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph.

In their failure, they will be put to utter shame, to lasting, unforgettable confusion.

O LORD of hosts, you who test the just, who probe mind and heart, let me witness the vengeance you take on them, for to you, I have entrusted my cause.

Sing to the LORD,
praise the LORD,
for he has rescued the life of the poor
from the power of the wicked!">

<1 Corinthians 13

13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

9 For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; 10 but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.>

<The Promise of the Lord's Coming

The Second Letter of Peter

Chapter 3

1 This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you; in them I am trying to arouse your sincere intention by reminding you

2 that you should remember the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken through your apostles.

3 First of all you must understand this, that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and indulging their own lusts

4 and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since our ancestors died, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation!?

5 They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water,

6 through which the world of that time was deluged with water and perished.

7 But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the godless.

8 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.

9 The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and everything that is done on it will be disclosed.

11 Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness,

12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set ablaze and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire?

13 But, in accordance with his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home.

Final Exhortation and Doxology

14 Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish;

15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation. So also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,

16 speaking of this as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.

17 You therefore beloved, since you are forewarned, beware that you are not carried away with the error of the lawless and lose your own stability.

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.

Amen.>

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.>
  WannaBe: Bwahahahaha.... That little 'troll' doll had me going, I can't get certain CG.com member's comments during the World Challenge out of my mind... And the Monk + Marcy bobbleheads. Oh my...
I do feel sorry for F. Murray Abraham! :-) And hope to see her again on the show. Sarah was good. Especially when she rattled off all the real episode's title as her own favourite 'cases'. That was a very nice inside joke/touch.
Next week, we get to see Snoop!! Right from my neighboring town, Compton!
Jul-16-07  whiteshark: Hi <chancho>, didn't you post that already y'day ?
It's a Monday morning puzzle, isn't it ?
<1... Qxf3 2. gxf3 Rdg8+ 3. Bg3 Rxg3+ 4. hxg3 Bxf3 5. ~ (or 5.Qh7 RxQ etc) Rh1<#>>
Always nice to sac your Queen for a #.
Jul-16-07  Karpova: <whiteshark: Hi <chancho>, didn't you post that already y'day ?> I think so, too. But back then it was saying <White to play>.
Jul-16-07  whiteshark: <Karpova / <chancho> <White to play>> Maybe I'm wrong, but wasn't that puzzle posted on Friday 13th ?? (1. BxQ)
Jul-16-07  Karpova: I thought it was on July 14th but could have been Friday, too.
  chancho: White to play and mate in eight moves.
click for larger view
Jul-16-07  Karpova: 1.Qxf6+ Rxf6 2.Nxf6 Bf3+ 3.Kh2 Qxh4+ 4.gxh4 Bf4+ 5.Kg1 Bh2+ 6.Kxh2
Really eight moves? Black just survives till move 7. I don't know where I might have gone wrong.
1.Qxf6+ Rxf6 (<only move, 1...Bg7 2.Qxg7# or 1...Kg8 2.Ne7#>) 2.Nxf6 (<threatens 3.Rxh7# and 3.Nf7#>) Bf3+ (<time to gain time for black, 2...Bg7 3.Nf7#>) 3.Kh2 Qxh4+ (<looks ridiculous but no black move covers both f7 and h7>) 4.gxh4 (<why not?>) Bf4+ 5.Kg1 Bh2+ 6.Kxh2 (<and black ran out of checks. he can't parry both threats>)
What am I overlooking?
  chancho: <Karpova> Your third move as white should be another.
Jul-16-07  Karpova: <chancho>
So my initial sacrifical combination's correct but I should make another third (worse) move for white to prolong the suffering? 3.Kg1 looks also reasonable but maybe 3.Kh3 Qg4+ 4.Kh2 Qh3+ 5.Kxh3 Bg4+ 6.Kxg4 h5+ 7.Kh3 and checkmate on move 8
  WannaBe: B. Hopkins - W. Wright on Saturday night will be one heck of a fight. I think Winky will win by decision.
From what I know of the 2 fighters, this one could become an instant classic.
Jul-18-07  square dance: im picking winky on decision, too. he's much busier than hopkins. i believe the pace may be too much for the older fighter. hopkins punch volume has gone down the last few years. i guess we'll see how much the weight(170lbs) affects the natural 154-160lb winky. it certainly could be a factor, but i still believe in winky. you can see how the two fought jermaine taylor. hopkins was very cautious and conservative with his punch output while winky walked right in front of taylor and started throwing punches. keep in mind that taylor is naturally bigger than hopkins, too. i see the same sort of approach this fight from winky. hopkins shouldnt be as cautious though because he won't be afraid of winky's power. no matter what happens i expect someone to complain about the decision after the fight. ;-)
  chancho: Winky will win this fight easily. He's too fast for Hopkins. 12 rd decision.
Jul-18-07  square dance: i doubt it. winky already said that he's moving back down to 154 or 160 after this fight. hopkins would not be obliged to give wright a rematch since he(hopkins) is the ring magazine and universally recognized light heavyweight champion. if winky wins i guess its possible, but i dont think so. if its a draw i think they would just go their seperate ways. i could see the winner of this fight fighting the winner of calzaghe-kessler which is supposed to take place in november. roy jones and felix trinidad might get it on in january, but thats nowhere near settled. i could also see the winner of that fight getting the winner of one of the two fights i mentioned. also, trinidad has expressed an interest in rematching both hopkins and wright, but i dont think the outcome would be any different. and getting passed even a washed up roy jones won't be an easy task for a passed his prime one dimensional fighter like tito. even in his prime any top notch boxer would beat him. delahoya did, and got robbed, hopkins did and so did winky. of course anyone dumb enough to stand in front of tito and trade suffered the consequences.
  chancho: I had my suspicions about <Mortimer> as far back as 2006, when he posted on the Nickel page:
< Gollum to Rybka:- "My precious - you can't steal my precious win over Arno - it's my win you know - my precious win - you can't steal it from me">
I had read something similar on the Goldsby page (before it was deleted) where <hayton3> said:
<I'm not sure Gollum of Lord of the Rings would approve of the mimickery...
"Sneaky little chess officials, wicked, tricksy, false. My Precious, it's ours it is and we wants it! My Precious! You stole it, My Precious, and we wants it! You filthy little thieves! We wants My Precious LIFE MASTER TITLE">
I hope they don't ban him again. I really enjoy his posts.
