<Jer 20:10-13

Jeremiah said:

"I hear the whisperings of many:
'Terror on every side!
Denounce!
Let us denounce him!'
All those who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine.

Perhaps he'll be trapped; then we can prevail, and take our vengeance on him.

But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph.

In their failure, they will be put to utter shame, to lasting, unforgettable confusion.

O LORD of hosts, you who test the just, who probe mind and heart, let me witness the vengeance you take on them, for to you, I have entrusted my cause.

Sing to the LORD,
praise the LORD,
for he has rescued the life of the poor
from the power of the wicked!">

<1 Corinthians 13

13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

9 For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; 10 but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.>

<The Promise of the Lord's Coming

The Second Letter of Peter

Chapter 3

1 This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you; in them I am trying to arouse your sincere intention by reminding you

2 that you should remember the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken through your apostles.

3 First of all you must understand this, that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and indulging their own lusts

4 and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since our ancestors died, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation!?

5 They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water,

6 through which the world of that time was deluged with water and perished.

7 But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the godless.

8 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.

9 The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and everything that is done on it will be disclosed.

11 Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness,

12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set ablaze and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire?

13 But, in accordance with his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home.

Final Exhortation and Doxology

14 Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish;

15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation. So also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,

16 speaking of this as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.

17 You therefore beloved, since you are forewarned, beware that you are not carried away with the error of the lawless and lose your own stability.

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.

Amen.>

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.>
Jul-22-07  square dance: its debatable whether hopkins really won or not. official scorecards in boxing are about as reliable as promises from fide. i caught the last few rounds on sopcast and it was a close fight. apparently there is no real concensus on how to score many of the rounds. in fact many people think winky won, or that it was a draw. from what i saw hopkins would flurry on winkys arms(hitting your opponents arms do not count as scoring punches) rush in and head butt winky and then hold him. hopkins defense was very impressive, but his offense was not. the official scorecards are basically a travesty from what i can gather. its like winky never had a chance without a knock out. 8 rounds to 4 on one scorecard and 9-3 on the other two. unbelievable. i saw winky win 3 rounds myself and only watched from round 7 on.
  jessicafischerqueen: Yo <chancho> you have to love the <Topalov> thread, eh?
Never a dull moment...
How's tricks man?
I just lost 500 chessbucks today betting <Motylev> to win. I had him at 6-1 and would have gone to the top of the betting ranker!!
but NOOOOOOO.
heh.
Take it easy, drop by any time.
  chancho: <Jess> Thanks for your betting advice. I had 872 chessbucks left and after applying your method, it went up to 2100. Thanks again.
  jessicafischerqueen: LOL the method doesn't always work!!
Although <Motty> almost won, and if he had I would currently be NUMBER ONE in the Stats.
So close... but now I'm under 1000 bucks again.
sigh
Congrats on your 2100!!
  chancho: <Jess> I know, I could make those bets next time and get wiped out! :) But it is amazing that I tried it, and it worked. I lost money on Motylev, (the day before I bet on Kamsky/Short being a draw) But I made a killing on the game of that guy, Avrkhuk (?) I can't spell his name. lol
Ever.
What an amazing species to take down <Mr. X>!!
<Mr. X> is not only one of the brightest of the rising GM stars, but he has the coolest nickname ever.
  WannaBe: <chancho> Nice to see Alfredo Molina on Monk last night, (he played Dr. Oc in Spiderman2 and he was Dr. Jones' guide that got killed in the opening of the first Indiana Jones movie)
His scenes were few and brief, but it was worth it.
Jul-28-07  square dance: ive always thought that tony shaloub would make for a good capablanca if they ever made a movie about him.
  chancho: The Celtics traded for Kevin Garnett. Now with Pierce and Allen they should be a better team, but giving seven players for Kevin, plus some draft picks, I wonder if that was way too much.
http://www.nba.com/celtics/index_ma...
Aug-01-07  square dance: actually, they gave up five players plus two draft picks, one of which they had acquired from the T-wolves in the szczerbiak-ricky davis/mark blount deal. im from minnesota and although im very sad to see garnett go i feel it was the right thing to do. the wolves need to rebuild and garnett cant help them do that. garnett needs to play for a contender and the wolves cant help him do that. as long as the C's stay healthy they have a great shot to get to the finals. also, the wolves are expected to buy out theo ratliff. he might even return to the celtics as a free agent. some other names to watch out for would be breven knight, pj brown, and apparently mutombo. all good veteran players who can provide depth. i hope they sign two of those guys. of course you can only have so many old and slow players around.
  chancho: <square dance> Thanks. As you already know, the Celtics have not gotten a whiff of the Finals in 21 years. meanwhile, old rivals like the Pistons and Lakers have. Ainge has done a good job getting the talent, but I think Doc Rivers is not the right coach for them.
Aug-01-07  square dance: yeah, i dont believe in doc rivers either. if he disappoints this year larry brown is always out there and looking to coach again. ;-) actually, he might be perfect for this job. he's not a long term guy and this isnt a long term situation. the C's are basically looking at a three year window, imo. also, i believe brown would jump at the opportunity for this job to get back at isiah thomas and the knicks. same division and a classic rivalry. and, of course, he would absolutely love to coach kevin garnett, im sure, not to mention ray allen and paul pierce.
  chancho: Does anyone see the show Mind Control with Derren Brown? The guy played a simul against 8 players.( 2 Grandmasters 1 IM, 2 FIDE Masters, a junior champ and went something like +4 -3 =3) The guy himself admitted he sucks at chess and when he reveals how he did it, it's kind of mindblowing. Anybody see the show?
Sep-09-07  Thorsson: Didn't see it and don't know how he did it, but did he have alternate Blacks and Whites?
If so I guess he made them play each other. It's what I'd do. :D
