<Jer 20:10-13

Jeremiah said:

"I hear the whisperings of many:
'Terror on every side!
Denounce!
Let us denounce him!'
All those who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine.

Perhaps he'll be trapped; then we can prevail, and take our vengeance on him.

But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph.

In their failure, they will be put to utter shame, to lasting, unforgettable confusion.

O LORD of hosts, you who test the just, who probe mind and heart, let me witness the vengeance you take on them, for to you, I have entrusted my cause.

Sing to the LORD,
praise the LORD,
for he has rescued the life of the poor
from the power of the wicked!">

<1 Corinthians 13

13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

9 For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; 10 but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.>

<The Promise of the Lord's Coming

The Second Letter of Peter

Chapter 3

1 This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you; in them I am trying to arouse your sincere intention by reminding you

2 that you should remember the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken through your apostles.

3 First of all you must understand this, that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and indulging their own lusts

4 and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since our ancestors died, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation!?

5 They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water,

6 through which the world of that time was deluged with water and perished.

7 But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the godless.

8 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.

9 The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and everything that is done on it will be disclosed.

11 Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness,

12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set ablaze and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire?

13 But, in accordance with his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home.

Final Exhortation and Doxology

14 Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish;

15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation. So also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,

16 speaking of this as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.

17 You therefore beloved, since you are forewarned, beware that you are not carried away with the error of the lawless and lose your own stability.

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.

Amen.>

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.>
Oct-04-07  Artar1: <chancho: <Artar1> Any suggestions by you on how better to utilize Fritz 10 is much appreciated. I'm hopeless with tech stuff. :-)>
When using Fritz in our current position, I try to remember which side of the board each player should be operating. For White, that means the queenside and for Black, the kingside. However, Black has not equalized yet, and White has a slight lead in development, a spatial advantage, and a very small initiative. With this in mind, I tend to choose moves that are in keeping with these general conditions. And for Black, because he has not equalized, countering White's queenside activity is a good idea, otherwise Black could get an inferior game.
As for using Fritz, I do sliding forward analysis in which the machine is allowed to run to a given ply-depth for each ply examined. Currently, that ply-depth is 18, and for the middle- and endgame, I use a higher standard. If the evaluation begins to rise for one side or the other, I go back over the line or lines I am examining to find an improvement, if possible, for the side who is at a disadvantage.
I hope this helps.
Oct-12-07  shr0pshire: Hey Chancho!
How are you doing? I was just reading over some of the comments for the Timmerman game and I thought about you. So, I decided to drop by and say hi!
Btw. I have a copy of Zappa Mexico and I ran it on the Timmerman game this morning and let it sit for 19 ply or so, and its analysis was interesting.
Anyway, hope you're doing well.
  chancho: I'm ok Joe. Thanks for asking.
Hope you are doing extremely well.
You have Zappa Mexico huh?
Did it show that we are doomed in the Timmerman game? (j/k)
Oct-13-07  shr0pshire: <Chancho>
I started playing correspondence chess at www.ficgs.com and they allow chess engines, so I wanted to get a copy of Zappa Mexico in order to have the top engines at my disposal since I don't have a very fast computer, in terms of chess computers, it has lightning speed for word processing and surfing the web. :)
Here is the analysis through 18 ply before the last white move.
You guys seem to be doing well. Keep up the good work!
Oct-14-07  you vs yourself: Scary numbers for Brady so far. If Colts keep winning, Patriots' starters might have to play all 16 games to get homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. That means, not only will they have a chance at 16-0 but Brady will most likely break Manning's 49 TD record.
Oct-21-07  you vs yourself: You gotta be kidding me. The score was 35 to 7 in the first half and they were passing! Brady knows there'll be meaningless games in the end when everything is wrapped up; and the starters sit out to avoid the risk of injury. So he's trying to break the 49 TD mark by the 14th game.
Until now, I put pats and colts in a league of their own. But it's time to make a distinction between the two and start comparing the pats to the '85 bears and the '72 Dolphins. Pats really want to show everyone, who disrespected their superbowl wins after that cameragate, the middle finger.
I don't know who will win, but I hope it's the Colts.
  chancho: Some people around the league are getting quite pissed at the Patriots running up the score on the Redskins. Quite frankly, I have to agree with them. The Pats were out of line by doing it. What the hell is going thru Bellichik's mind anyway?
  chancho: <zanshin> Hahaha, Maybe. Did you hear the Pats are 5 pt favorites for Sunday's game over the Colts? I think that spread is wrong.
Oct-29-07  zanshin: <chancho: <zanshin> Hahaha, Maybe. Did you hear the Pats are 5 pt favorites for Sunday's game over the Colts? I think that spread is wrong.>
<chanco> I checked the Colts website and since they are hosting the game, they have better chances. But to be honest, I think the spread is fair. The Colts have looked good, but I'm afraid to say, the Pats have looked great :-(
Oct-31-07  shr0pshire: <Chancho> Thanks for the link to the correspondence chess page. I have seen it before. A year or two ago, I went through all those correspondence web sites to find all the correspondence games I could for my database. I always appreciate links though, maybe I missed something.
How are you doing?
  chancho: <Shr0pshire> I received the e-mail and I left it there with thoughts of installing the engines later on. I go the next morning to do so, and lo and behold, I discover that my wife used the computer, and while checking the e-mails she mistakenly deleted the one you sent me. If it's no bother to you, can you send the e-mail again? Thanks.
Dec-07-07  Artar1: <chancho: <Artar1> Just came by to say that we miss your input on the Timmerman page.>
Hey <chancho>!
How's it going? Thanks for inquiring about my welfare and such!
I've been reading the various posts daily, and I have voted for each move.
There's not much to do, actually. I am running my machine as I write this post, but it does look as if we are headed for a draw. However, the fact that GMT is taking so long to make a very obvious reply may say something about his position and frame of mind. He is being very careful and he may be concerned about making a mistake.
My opinion is that GMT does not have to worry that much. White does have a small advantage, but it's not enough to force a win.
You're right about Star Trek! I've been watching "Voyager" and enjoying every minute of it. I have also been writing essays for my daughter's English class.
While I feel my helping her is intellectually dishonest, she is really not up to the task, and so as a result has decided to curtail her college career by seeking an AA degree only, a wise move on her part.
My latest paper is on the moral position of Huckleberry Finn, an interesting book, but one that raisers very difficult concerns and questions for me about life in America.
I hope all is well with you!
Take care.
  chancho: Hatton will have a hard time trying to corner Mayweather in this fight. Mayweather might even cut Hatton early on, so the fight could be a short one. It would be nice to see Hatton winning the bout, but it's not likely to happen.
Dec-08-07  TheSlid: Yep <chancho> Ricky is a good puncher and a fighter's fighter, but I don't see him winning this one. Shame, really. BTW, my first house is only about 6 miles from where Ricky comes from.
Dec-08-07  square dance: ricky hatton seems like a great guy and floyd can be what the english would call an arse, but i only concern myself with how an athlete performs on his field of play. well, as long as he's not an entirely disgusting human being. ricky is a good fighter, but im not sure he's going to like what comes back to him in the form of mayweather right hands. i expect a close first few rounds and then mayweather to win the majority down the stretch. ive got floyd winning 7 or 8 rounds. but, as we know, predictions are meaningless. they get in the ring for a reason.
