<Jer 20:10-13

Jeremiah said:

"I hear the whisperings of many:
'Terror on every side!
Denounce!
Let us denounce him!'
All those who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine.

Perhaps he'll be trapped; then we can prevail, and take our vengeance on him.

But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph.

In their failure, they will be put to utter shame, to lasting, unforgettable confusion.

O LORD of hosts, you who test the just, who probe mind and heart, let me witness the vengeance you take on them, for to you, I have entrusted my cause.

Sing to the LORD,
praise the LORD,
for he has rescued the life of the poor
from the power of the wicked!">

<1 Corinthians 13

13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

9 For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; 10 but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.>

<The Promise of the Lord's Coming

The Second Letter of Peter

Chapter 3

1 This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you; in them I am trying to arouse your sincere intention by reminding you

2 that you should remember the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken through your apostles.

3 First of all you must understand this, that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and indulging their own lusts

4 and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since our ancestors died, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation!?

5 They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water,

6 through which the world of that time was deluged with water and perished.

7 But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the godless.

8 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.

9 The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and everything that is done on it will be disclosed.

11 Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness,

12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set ablaze and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire?

13 But, in accordance with his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home.

Final Exhortation and Doxology

14 Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish;

15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation. So also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,

16 speaking of this as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.

17 You therefore beloved, since you are forewarned, beware that you are not carried away with the error of the lawless and lose your own stability.

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.

Amen.>

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.>
Dec-09-07  square dance: dominating performance by mayweather. it went about like i thought, but i thought hatton would make it the distance. i didnt think he would get broken down so quickly once mayweather turned it on. hatton did a great job of bringing the best out of the best. on another note, what fight was harold letterman watching?!? i thought hatton clearly won two or three rounds, but certainly NOT the first and third, which letterman rather mysteriously gave to hatton, while giving floyd two close rounds that i thought could've gone to hatton. that guy needs to lose his job. he's a joke.
Dec-09-07  square dance: <chancho> i would also like to see floyd fight cotto just so he could add another name to his resume. i like cotto, and have a ton of respect for him, great heart, great warrior, but he's way too slow for floyd. he also has a tendency to get hurt. if you want an idea of what a cotto-mayweather fight would be like just watch cotto-mosely and imagine cotto landing about 1/5 of the power punches while getting hit with more clean punches than mosely landed. i know you live in puerto rico and are probably an even bigger cotto fan than i am, but sometimes the truth is just the truth. the one guy who i think would be scary for floyd is 6'1" southpaw paul williams, who never quits throwing punches.
  chancho: <square dance> You have a point there. I saw Williams defeat Antonio Margarito, and that guy is as tough as they get. So yes, Williams would give Floyd all he can handle. I doubt that fight will take place though...
  chancho: Impressive performance by the Pats over the Steelers.
Dec-09-07  square dance: can you believe moss dropped that TD? grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. its only a matter of time before he breaks rice's single season TD record of 22, he has 19 now, but the true record will always be rice's since he did in 12 games!!!
  chancho: One of the ESPN news guys from the Blitz said that the Patriots lack of a running game could come back to haunt them later on. I think Laurence Mulroney can run the ball, but since the Pats are so good in the passing game, (they are aiming at the record books) that it's basically by choice that they are not displaying a ground game.
Dec-09-07  square dance: what kind of new englander are you?! its maroney! :-P i followed him in college since im from minnesota, so im quite familiar with him. he's plenty capable of being a real good back as long as he stays healthy. unfortunately thats been his problem. not to mention that the pats are often only blocking with 5 guys up front. and when they do commit to a running formation its usually so obvious with 3 TE's and a FB that the defense knows whats coming. although that usually(today aside) doesnt stop my man, adrian peterson.
  chancho: Two more games to 16-0. The Dolphins should be an easy one, but then they face the NY Giants and then three games in the playoffs to win the whole kit and kaboodle. (19-0) That's a lot of pressure.
Dec-19-07  Rhinocerous Ranger: I'm hoping the Dolphins somehow end up beating the Pats.
Dec-20-07  YouRang: <Rhinocerous Ranger: I'm hoping the Dolphins somehow end up beating the Pats.>
Of course, the Dolphins have some motivation: They would like to preserve their claim as the only team to ever have a perfect season all the way to the Super Bowl (see 1972 Miami Dolphins: http://www.phins.com/72phins/sched....).
This is their last chance to have a say in the matter.
Dec-21-07  TheSlid: Hi <chancho> You really think that the recent character <michadams> could be the great <WMD> in disguise? My limited review of <MA>'s contributions would suggest a much more wordy and expansive style.
Dec-24-07  square dance: merry christmas to you, <chancho>! i would get you something, but i think you got your xmas present when the patriots acquired randy moss for a 4th round draft pick! ;-)
Dec-26-07  zanshin: <chancho: Happy Holidays <zanshin>>
Hey same to you buddy! I will be slightly less annoyed if the Patriots get a perfect season knowing it will make you happy ;-)
Dec-26-07  Larsker: <I will be slightly less annoyed if the Patriots get a perfect season knowing it will make you happy> Perfect is boring. I hope they won't win the Superbowl.
Dec-29-07  square dance: in brady(and moss) we trust. 16-0! new single season td reception record for moss(23) and new single season passing td record for brady(50). im very pleased to see that two of my favorite ever athletes, moss and brady, made so much history this season. its been very rewarding to be a fan of those two this year. way to go pats!!!
Dec-29-07  you vs yourself: Pretty special game, wasn't it? They own pretty much all the meaningful records now.
Colts were pretty close too. Lead by 10pts in the 4th qtr, one good play was all they needed. Oh and for Adam to make that chip shot against the chargers. For Manning to match or break 50 tds, his defense has to suck and/or Dungy should let him play when the score is 38-7.
Let's hope these two teams meet in the AFC championship game. That'd be the dream matchup for football fans.
