<Jer 20:10-13

Jeremiah said:

"I hear the whisperings of many:
'Terror on every side!
Denounce!
Let us denounce him!'
All those who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine.

Perhaps he'll be trapped; then we can prevail, and take our vengeance on him.

But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph.

In their failure, they will be put to utter shame, to lasting, unforgettable confusion.

O LORD of hosts, you who test the just, who probe mind and heart, let me witness the vengeance you take on them, for to you, I have entrusted my cause.

Sing to the LORD,
praise the LORD,
for he has rescued the life of the poor
from the power of the wicked!">

<1 Corinthians 13

13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

9 For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; 10 but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.>

<The Promise of the Lord's Coming

The Second Letter of Peter

Chapter 3

1 This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you; in them I am trying to arouse your sincere intention by reminding you

2 that you should remember the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken through your apostles.

3 First of all you must understand this, that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and indulging their own lusts

4 and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since our ancestors died, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation!?

5 They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water,

6 through which the world of that time was deluged with water and perished.

7 But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the godless.

8 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.

9 The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and everything that is done on it will be disclosed.

11 Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness,

12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set ablaze and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire?

13 But, in accordance with his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home.

Final Exhortation and Doxology

14 Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish;

15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation. So also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,

16 speaking of this as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.

17 You therefore beloved, since you are forewarned, beware that you are not carried away with the error of the lawless and lose your own stability.

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.

Amen.>

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.>
Feb-17-08  square dance: ok, so much for my prediction of a stoppage, but pavlik won a pretty clear decision. the judges gave him 7,8 and 9 rounds, respectively. i think i had it 8-4 pavlik, but 7 or 8 rounds is about right. i have to give taylor a lot of credit for not being the sucker for a right hand that he was in the last fight, and some of his other past fights. taylor did about all <he> could do, but pavlik is just a bad match up for him.
  chancho: <square dance> They are mentioning a possible Pavlik vs Trinidad fight for later this year. I hope Tito does not take it. He has all the money he needs. Why risk a serious beating?
Feb-18-08  square dance: agreed, chancho. tito is 34 or 35 now. he needs to stick to fighting people in his age group. dont mess with the young guys. especially when they're younger and bigger. i would give a young, prime tito close to 50% chance to win. but an older, slower tito maybe 10%. pavlik would be able to control tito with his jab. after wearing him out for a few rounds he could really start to assault him with the right hand. as long as pavlik is smart about not trading his right hand for trinidad's left hook i would think he has almost no chance of losing. i think there are a couple of reasons why tito would want this fight: 1st, its the middleweight title. enough said. 2nd, pavlik is the guy who beat taylor, who beat hopkins, who beat trinidad.
I don't know where You got the info, but I seem to remember (quite well) that Tito died in May of 1980 at the age of 88. Even then he was still a fighter :-)
  chancho: <square dance> I know it's rather late, but what a stinker of a fight Vladimir Klitscko put at the Garden huh? Here's a link you might not be aware of: http://www.miguelcotto.com/
Hope you find it of some interest.
Mar-06-08  square dance: <chancho> i saw the klitchko-ibragimov fight. it was basically awful. big wlad had some reason to play it safe, i guess, as ibragimov was only threatening haymakers. it was less of a boxing match than some sort of david vs goliath exhibition.
<LIFE Master AJ> I am very sorry to hear about your loss. My sincere condolences, hayton3.
Apr-14-08  square dance: <chancho> hey, i came here last night to congratulate your countryman on another outstanding victory, but your forum was closed. anyway, as far as the cotto-margarito matchup i would say its no contest from a skill point of view and i have no doubt that cotto would win if it weren't for the size difference. cotto is about 5'7" and margarito is 5'11". in fact, cotto's tallest oppenent was the guy from last night who is 5'9". it will be interesting to see how he adapts to a guy who is that much taller than him, but is also a skilled fighter. i think boxing fans really win with this matchup being made. it should really be an excellent fight and definitely worth the ppv money if thats the route they decide to go. as a fan of cotto i must admit that i would rather see him matched up with people closer to his own size though. a la judah, mosley and eventually mayweather.
Just saying hello and thanking you for your recent messages and salutations.
Up here in Canada, the <Polytechnique Massacre> has the same kind of national shock value as the <Virginia Tech Massacre>.
How come people didn't do these things 50 years ago?
Is our generation to blame?
Seems today if a guy gets mad about something that shooting a bunch of people appears to be a "lifestyle option."
  chancho: <square dance> The De la Hoya vs Forbes fight was supposed to be a tune up for a Sept date with Mayweather, and while Oscar won a lopsided decision, did you notice how banged up his face was? Can you imagine what would happen if he fights Cotto?
May-04-08  square dance: i was definitely concerned with how banged up oscar looked. he is starting to show his age in his face. he is 35 after all.
ive noticed that throughout oscar's career he's willing to trade with smaller guys who cant punch. he'll leave his left hand around his waste about 3/4 of the time while he'll keep his right hand high. he's willing to absorb right hands that he can see coming in exchange for his left hook, or so called "smash" or hookercut(half way in between a lead hook and an uppercut. think roy jones-montell griffin 2), not to mention work the jab.. ive particularly noticed this in his fights against chavez, gatti and now forbes. i dont believe he'd keep his left hand low so often against cotto, although cotto's best punches are all with his left hand; left hook to the head and body, and lately his jab has looked like his best punch. although cotto by no means has a weak right hand. its just not as good as his left. cotto still has to get by margarito first. we'll see how he handles that challenge. as of now i could see a cotto-de la hoya fight going either way. cotto may be too young and good, while oscar may be too big and skilled.
