<Jer 20:10-13

Jeremiah said:

"I hear the whisperings of many:
'Terror on every side!
Denounce!
Let us denounce him!'
All those who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine.

Perhaps he'll be trapped; then we can prevail, and take our vengeance on him.

But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph.

In their failure, they will be put to utter shame, to lasting, unforgettable confusion.

O LORD of hosts, you who test the just, who probe mind and heart, let me witness the vengeance you take on them, for to you, I have entrusted my cause.

Sing to the LORD,
praise the LORD,
for he has rescued the life of the poor
from the power of the wicked!">

<1 Corinthians 13

13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

9 For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; 10 but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.>

<The Promise of the Lord's Coming

The Second Letter of Peter

Chapter 3

1 This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you; in them I am trying to arouse your sincere intention by reminding you

2 that you should remember the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken through your apostles.

3 First of all you must understand this, that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and indulging their own lusts

4 and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since our ancestors died, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation!?

5 They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water,

6 through which the world of that time was deluged with water and perished.

7 But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the godless.

8 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.

9 The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and everything that is done on it will be disclosed.

11 Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness,

12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set ablaze and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire?

13 But, in accordance with his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home.

Final Exhortation and Doxology

14 Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish;

15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation. So also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,

16 speaking of this as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.

17 You therefore beloved, since you are forewarned, beware that you are not carried away with the error of the lawless and lose your own stability.

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.

Amen.>

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.>
Memorable Quotes chessforum
It's purpose is to honor all the great posters that have been banned and their contributions to the site. Such as <WMD>, <hayton3>, etc.
Besides Chuck Norris facts, the AJ Goldsby pages were the funniest @#$% I've ever read on the internet. It is a real shame it was all deleted and now it's at 19 pages.
I was working on bringing the pages back, but it seems it's against the rules of CG. I hope reading them without sharing isn't against them though.
  chancho: The Celtics finally won a road game. (by 14 points) Maybe they are good enough to win it all. Although those guys from LA look like a much more impressive bunch to me.
Jun-04-08
Premium Chessgames Member
  kwgurge: <chancho> LA does look more impressive and deeper, but the Celtics chances lie in rebounding. Although Gasol is a better offensive player than Perkins, he is softer inside. If the Celtics can maintain a decent rebounding edge, especially on the offensive end, they have a chance to win the series.
Regarding the upcoming GMAN game, I'm for 1...Nf6 in response to 1.e4 (Alekhine's defense). Although I know I will be outvoted, it is the only black response to 1.e4 with a winning record at the World Championship level and it was recently played successfully twice at the 2008 U.S. Championship.
Against 1.d4, I prefer 1.d5 and the Semi-Slav.
Jun-04-08  kwid: Hi chancho and team,
Can we have confirmation that this forum is invisible to GAN before posting detailed proposals?
If yes we could get serious with posting our preferences as how best to counter GAN's expected openings.
For a starter I would like to point out the method I used for preparing against an opponent for a cc game.
I collect and replay his games trying to find out what his potential opening choices are and why he selected them in the first place.
Did he prepare them for a particular opponent to put him on an unfamiliar ground or was it to not play into his or her expected playing strength.
When is he diverting from theoretical considered best lines? This is the most important assessment we have to come up with. We need to identify exactly what his plans were at this stage of the game. We need to get a feel what his short term and long term plans are for a particular position.
Then and only then can we design our strategy to counter his style or ideas.
If we all work on the above stated principles we should arrive at a conclusion what our best response in reply to e4 or d4 should be.
I recommend to submit your best line at least with a 30 moves play out and why we should adopt it.
These suggestions should provide a solid foundation for formulating an outline for our best chance to win this contest.
Don't worry, he can't. I just signed into Arno Nickel's account as a test, just to be absolutely sure. Upon visiting User: chancho, I was informed:
Jun-04-08  YouRang: My only idea regarding the next GMAN game (where we have black).
I agree with <RookFile>, who I believe somewhere said (something to the effect) that we should stick to well-established lines in the opening.
GMAN lost the first game, and probably won't be content to settle for a draw with white. Let him be the one to initiate novelties, and then use our (hopefully) superior computing depth to seek a way to emerge with an advantage.
It will be a tough game, as was GMT's game.
  kwgurge: <YouRang> I agree with you and <Rookfile> on sticking to well -established opening lines and letting him try the novelties.
<kwid> The problem with using the usual CC preparation method in the upcoming game is that GMAN may well not select his opening choice based on his past repetoire or on typical reasons for choosing and opening in a CC tournament game. As he said in comments after the first game, he chose the variation of the Kan Sicilian which he did because he felt an "exhibition" game was a good time to try out a line he was curious about and wanted to explore further.
Jun-04-08  kwid: Ok, my first attempt to find an answer to his seemingly favored approach against the KI with Nge2/Ng3/Be2/plan for f4/f5 attack failed to net a win for us. My idea was to take advantage of Ng3 if he plans Be2 with a h5/h4 threat, a queenside pawn majority while holding the black center squares. This plan can not prevent f4/f5 which gives us a somewhat risky king safety. If we can control e5 we could force a draw but no win in sight as far as I can see.
Here are just two lines trying to take away his initiative with h5 an untested none theoretical OTB approach.
<kwgurge:> Yes you are correct that we can not take for granted that he will allow us to copy or follow one of his previous games. But he also knows that playing against us will need all the help he can get which IMO stems from his experience with certain opening pattern and already deeply analysed transition lines.
I do not believe that he would try an opening in which he is not familiar or has little reference data for it. He knows our research capacity and thus will try to guide us into one of his specialty assuming that he can reach over our horizon because we are strongly influenced by rybka's suggestions.
Jun-04-08  Waitaka: Wow, good to see the forum for the game against GMAN is already working!! I bet it will get more attention than the forum The World x GMT from now on...
:)
Jun-04-08  truefriends: Since most of our analysis is done with Rybka, i suggest we simple wait for the release of Rybka 3 and use the new openingbook. I have 100% trust in the openingpower of Jeroen Noomen :-)
Jun-04-08  Waitaka: <truefriends> A little limited strategy, I think.
Any opening book will not consider the specifics GMAN strenghts, weakness and preferences.
I know we should play the best chess always, but if we have two or three strong openings options to respond to GMAN openinig move, I would prefer the one he is less familiar, or had less sucess in past.
Just for curiosity, do you have access to this page? Repertoire Explorer: Arno Nickel (white)
Jun-04-08  truefriends: <Waitaka> No i don't since i am not a premium member.
But i don't expect GMAN will follow any of his games for to long. He knows we just have more time to explore his games and openings. He will try to play a novelty on move 10 or so.
Why i suggested the Rybka openingbook is because it is proven to be best in computerchess. Improving on years of hard working from Jeroen Noomen will be very difficult and i think maybe even impossible.
I think GMAN will try to play an opening out of his recent freestyle tournaments cause freestylers are known for very deep opening prep in specific lines.
Jun-04-08  Waitaka: GMAN has 133 games on <chessgames.com> database, starting with white. Foloowing are his move preferences, and results:
1.d4, 99 games, win 57.6%, draw 35.4%, loose 7%
1.Nf3, 14 games, win 28.6%, draw 57.1%, loose 14.3%
1.c4, 14 games, win 57.1%, draw 28.6%, loose 14.3$
1.e4, 5 games, win 80%, draw 20%
1.g3, 1 game, draw
Jun-04-08  Waitaka: <But i don't expect GMAN will follow any of his games for to long. He knows we just have more time to explore his games and openings. He will try to play a novelty on move 10 or so.>
You are probably right on this. As I have seen, he dont use to repeat long lines on his openings.
